To be offended by these stickers on the back of a van?

So I was on a day trip with a friend yesterday and this van was up ahead of us in the traffic.
I’m no prude, but I think these are really offensive (you may need to zoom in)
Is it even legal to drive around like this?

It’s horrible but I wouldn’t let it ruin my day

DistinguishedSocialCommentator · 25/03/2024 20:09

I'd be seriously happy if there more vehicles with stickers like that as we'd steer clear of them - treat it as a red warning sign, KEEP CLEAR, Richeard's about
😂

TeaGinandFags · 25/03/2024 20:11

Completely illegal!

You've got to be able to actually see out of the rear window.

Send pic with plate to local cop shop and let them worry about it.

The more I think about it the worse I feel about it actually. Children can see it. Teenage girls walking past it may feel scared. It's actually vile.

I do wonder if it could be covered under section five of the public order act.

The public order act? Come off it!

Adults don't use tiny fish emojis in messages. Braindead people do on social media.

It is what the stickers represent that offends me- an attitude towards women that is increasingly common amongst men, particularly younger men. We shouldn't be ignoring it. It is something to be upset and angry about and is an enormous step backwards in the treatment of women in society. Men like him have always existed but their numbers had dropped as it became clear over the last 30 years that attitudes like this were unacceptable and were challenged. That is no longer the case; they aren't challenged any longer, they are seen as much more acceptable again and we'll pay the price for that. Teenage boys and young men often have disgusting very sexualised, abusive, attitudes to women which they share openly.

@LuluBlakey1

stop being so pathetic. You're not subtle. It's not big & it's not clever.

It should offend everyone. It's utterly vile, misogynistic filth which could actually scare some girls/women. Let's say you were walking down a quiet road on your own and someone drove past you with stickers like that on their car/van? Would you feel ok?

What about if the driver cut out the middleman and just shouted those same words and phrases at you, or described the graphic pictures using graphic words?

What about if he did it to a young girl or a vulnerable older woman, or somebody with learning difficulties? The stickers are right there, indiscriminately, for any and everybody to have to view at any time the van is out anywhere in public.

It isn't normally an acceptable excuse when communicating something hateful or threatening that you 'only' wrote it down and didn't actually say it.

No of course not

If you wrote a racist, threatening letter for example, you could get in trouble with the police.

It wasn't meant to be subtle, big or clever. It was meant to be blunt. You said you are an adult with much more important things to be upset about than misogynistic, sexually offensive stickers (about women), on a van and then posted a line of cartoon emoji fish to illustrate your point.

Lol!

Rosejasmine · 25/03/2024 21:54

Yes that’s offensive and sick. The owner is a saddo Incel I reckon. I guess be grateful that’s not your next door neighbour’s car…

Teenagehorrorbag · 25/03/2024 22:42

Saw a similar vehicle in our small rural town recently, and was absolutely horrified! Stickers along the same lines but probably three times as many, and some really more offensive ones. Shades of Andrew Tate - and not something I want my teenage DS or DD to see, but what can anyone do?

As PPs have said - at least the driver is signposting himself for what he is, and hopefully anyone decent will keep a wide distance! 😨

OldPerson · 25/03/2024 22:47

If I saw it, I'd fill in the online non-emergency form for police - and report it. I'd report it as an offensive and harrassing and intimidating encounter.

It just might be useful to the police. I doubt the people who own the vehicle are law-abiding citizens.

I've reported several things online to the police from Traveller abuse to a man harrassing my daughter on the way home from school. "Girl come here. Girl stop using your phone. Come here girl."

Despite their reputation - the police have always followed up.

And when youngest was harrassed - the police came round, took a full report and very clearly advised her to dial 999 if she ever felt harrassed by a male again.

I'm pretty sure the police will follow up on the vehicle in question.

Er, pull in and stop? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Er, unhelpful. You wouldn’t be able to pull in at a junction, or a set of traffic lights, or loads of other places. The kids would be stuck staring at it, that’s the point being made.

I wondered exactly the same thing about s. 5. I don’t see why not. Do you know what it says Worried234?

icelolly99 · 26/03/2024 11:48

Those stickers are awful. Saw a FakeTaxi one the other day - my kid had to explain what it meant.....BTW There's no legal requirement to have a view through a rear window in the UK. As long as your vehicle is safely loaded and has 2 wing mirrors.

JanglingJack · 28/03/2024 21:04

mrsdineen2 · 24/03/2024 14:04

What choice have we when they pull out in front of us at a junction with a 7 year old and 9 year old in the car who have good eyesight and reading ability?

If they ask explain he's an idiot and to be ignored. Or just let them have their inner giggle at it and not mention it.

JanglingJack · 28/03/2024 21:06

As we a look ways say... No need to write a song about it. 😂

I have what cna be probably be described as quite an immature sense of humour. Definitely by mumsnet standards. But I don't think just letting a 7 and a 9 year old giggle it that is appropriate parenting.

If that was in an adult only environment, I'd roll my eyes, think he was a bellend and move on with my life. When he's targeting it for young kids to read in public, I want him closely monitored tbh.

Yes - no requirement otherwise how would vans and lorries ever be able to get anywhere?

MorganKitten · 02/04/2024 21:14

Fake taxi is a porn company

As the girlfriend of the person who owns this van, you're all hilarious with these comments 😂😭 can't wait for his 3wk old son to inherite this when he's old enough 🥰

It’s childish and Neanderthal, but we need to stop being so offended by everything we don’t like. Live and let live. At least the owner/driver of this van is letting everyone know who he is even before they meet him, so no duplicity to navigate!

They don't care. They drive behind/ past us all the time 😂

Who needs red flags when you're driving that around?

oFfEnSiVeGrEeNvAn · 15/03/2025 14:13

Despite what the stickers might suggest, he's a sweetheart 😂
