To be offended by these stickers on the back of a van?

So I was on a day trip with a friend yesterday and this van was up ahead of us in the traffic.
I’m no prude, but I think these are really offensive (you may need to zoom in)
Is it even legal to drive around like this?

It's bad enough being out in public as a women a lot of the time, but now we have misogynists wallpapering their cars with messages telling us how little they respect us.

Interesting how so many women on here claim to not watch porn but also know what fake taxi is

Porn has seeped into every day culture. I mean there's even a porn star martini on cocktails in bars. So I don't watch it but even I have heard of it.

Whereareallthemillionaires · 24/03/2024 17:05

Aren’t we supposed to be able to see out of our rear window.
So many stickers could be seen to be obstructing the drivers view.

As an aside we used to have an old jeep with a wheel on the back.
The wheel cover was of two bonking rhinos ( ps it was there when we bought it and someone knocked it on a day trip to Cheltenham😔)

I just had to Google fake taxi

I thought it was a parent declaring they are like a taxi 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Ineedamanicure · 24/03/2024 17:09

Vile. And for those playing it down, this is where it starts. The normalisation of misogyny, I mean. It ends in violence against women. That’s how rape culture works.

BlusteryLake · 24/03/2024 17:12

He could have saved a lot of space by just rolling them all into one sticker that said "Massive Bellend on Board".

ScierraDoll · 24/03/2024 15:24

Well they are offensive to me but some might think they are funny. You ask if you are right to be offended, I don't think "right" is the word to use. You were offended and there it is. Guess what - nothing happens when you are offended, there are no long lasting effects. Announcing that you are offended does not make you a morally superior person there is no badge of honour to be gained here. You were going about your day and you saw something that offended you - do you really need to tell all and sundry?

Hard disagree there. I'm glad the OP posted this as there absolutely is a debate to be had about this and the trend towards men's becoming more and more comfortable with their misogyny, and mistreatment of women in general.

So yes, it really does offend me, especially as the mother of daughters. Sure, you could say at least he's showing us who he is, but how have we got to a place where he can be so bold and open about it? Women's safety relies a lot on the social contract, things like this erode/blur the lines of what is acceptable treatment. It's abhorrent and we should loudly repudiate and reject it, not because we're 'morally superior', but because of basic decency. Do you not see that?

On the other side of the coin, once saw a bumper sticker saying 'If you're riding me this hard, at least pull my hair' right next to one saying 'My kid is a Terrific Turtle at Local Elementary School'... BlushGrin

DragonGypsyDoris · 24/03/2024 17:20

Many drivers can't see through their vehicles. It isn't a legal requirement.

I for one am not going to deny watching from time to time but with that said I do find this overt public signage unpleasant, unwanted and clearly offensive for some. If this is tolerated, where is the limit point? There's a time and place for everything which doesn't cause offence to others. lol :)

I think they are misogynistic, offensive and insulting. I can't understand why women are not upset by these things.

Same here.

ArtfullyCrumpled · 24/03/2024 17:55

The filthy minger has failed to maintain his brake lights.

Caerulea · 24/03/2024 18:01

After John Worboys why in the everloving fuck would you want that on your vehicle?! It's beyond tasteless. Sure, all the stickers are gross & I'd be livid if it were my son driving that van, but anything relating to dodgy taxis is beyond the pale for me.

As a thought experiment, how would any of the 'it's just bantz' feel if this van pulled up alongside you whilst you were walking alone at night? Or somewhere remote?

Helpisso · 24/03/2024 18:02

Thriving30 · 24/03/2024 11:57

You just know it's being driven by a middle aged man who isn't getting any! It's so embarrassing (for him)

Why a middle aged man ? You get these types of misogynists in every age group!!

TerrysNeapolitan · 24/03/2024 18:03

They look very vintage - Fat Willys and Fido Dido looks like 1995 down Newquay!

strawberrycheesecakey · 24/03/2024 18:04

I can just imagine being stuck in traffic behind him and can almost hear my 6 yr old dd proudly reading out aloud all the stickers from the middle of the back seat 😂

Spoonthief · 24/03/2024 18:04

At leat he’s very up front about being a dickhead and women will know to avoid.

Not much you can do about it other than ignore though.

CoatRack · 24/03/2024 18:10

Hilarious! That van makes me physically cringe, good god I pity that guy 🤣

Be grateful for the signal. You may have actually found a real life incel out in the wild.

caringcarer · 24/03/2024 18:24

HelloCiao · 24/03/2024 11:47

I wish more men's red flags were this obvious. At least 99% of women know to stay away from this dickhead!

This. Any female getting into that car must be blind.

YireosDodeAver · 24/03/2024 18:27

Honestly I feel more pity than offence. The man who owns that vehicle is so steeped in toxic masculinity he has no idea who he is or what his potential is. He is so consumed by overwhelming feelings of inadequacy that he can only cope by putting on the kind of performative displays of "lad" culture that these stickers will be just a small part of. He will probably never have a genuinely fulfilled life because all the barriers between himself and honest existence will get in the way.

NonPlayerCharacter · 24/03/2024 18:30

I don't know why he didn't just have a single sticker with "My penis is 2cm fully erect and I haven't got laid since 1995". Exactly the same message and wouldn't clog up so much of his rear windscreen.

hangingonfordearlife1 · 24/03/2024 18:30

a lot of these stickers date back from the 90s. pretty nostalgic to be honest - especially those of us who was partying in newquay as teenagers

ConstitutionHill · 24/03/2024 18:34

Meadowfinch · 24/03/2024 11:49

I can't get too worked up about it.

The owner is clearly a prat, with appalling taste (in cars as well as humour), and someone to avoid. So avoid them.

There are a lot of prats in the world. I'd be exhausted if I let them all upset me.

That's a VW T4, an awesome van.

Owned by an utter weapon clearly.

@LuluBlakey1

because I'm an adult, I don't get upset by stickers.

bigger  to fry in the the 'upset' stakes than by some twat putting stickers in his car rear window.

@gould I didn't know it was a company. I thought it meant worse than that (hinting at pretending to be a taxi to pick up women & assaulting/raping them) so I'm somewhat relieved it's 'just' a porn site. Though maybe the content is about what I thought? I don't know & im not going to look to find out.
