To find Vinted depressing?

Row upon row of dark dingey photos of creased clothing, or photos of people 'modelling' clothes with their house a shit tip in the background.

People wanting top dollar for rubbish brands or things that have seen better days.

Items getting sent in a Morrisons carrier bag or a cat food box.

Just depressing!

I find it more depressing because things I’ve sold are in good condition (shoes worn 1-2 times or kids games/ toys) and people want to pay next to nothing. I make sure the pics show neutral background to show items at their best.
If I’m selling something for £3 people offer £1! I’ve got to find decent packaging which I don’t get paid for and drive to post it. It’s hardly worth it.
I used to mainly donate things to charity. Not just for the charity but because I know some people rely on charity shops if they cant afford new or families who have had to flee home with nothing. These days charity shops are often more expensive than primark and that doesn’t help people who are hard up

Boomboxio · 17/03/2024 21:14

I've had lots of great kids bundles from vinted, hardly worn stuff, it's saved me a small fortune

I agree. The charity shops prices have increased beyond ridiculous, the other day I saw a jacket for a toddler selling for £25! I know running a shop must be more costly nowadays but they are not paying for the stock and they are not in it for the profit, are they??

TuliLily · 17/03/2024 21:18

That's not my experience. I love it personally and have had so many amazing bargains. Don't like it don't use it?

Startyabastard · 17/03/2024 21:20

For the prices I can easily look past those issues, personally.
Having said that, the things I buy are lovely, semi expensive brands that I wouldn't like to part alot of money for.
I'm talking brands like Gant and Ralph Lauren and Petit Bateau, not Gucci.

Startyabastard · 17/03/2024 21:28

The fact that I can have multiple pieces of lots of next to perfect cashmere makes me happy.
There have been a (very few) incidents of receiving shrunk pieces.

RM2013 · 17/03/2024 21:28

I’ve had fairly good experiences with vinted but I look for specific brands and I skio
past any dodgy listings

Daylightsavingscrime · 17/03/2024 21:32

I’ve found some really good stuff on Vinted. Saved me quite a bit of money. There was better stuff on there a few years ago though. I think maybe people were doing lockdown wardrobe purges.

BIossomtoes · 17/03/2024 21:33

I haven’t been disappointed with any of my Vinted purchases. With a couple of them I felt as if I was stealing from the buyer because they were definitely under priced. I’m a big Vinted fan but then I only buy two or three specific labels.

Clevs · 17/03/2024 21:34

I've had some good bargains on there. My most recent purchase was the one I have got most excited about, exactly what I was looking for in the right size and I made an offer that was accepted.

I'm now looking for a cheap, unworn bikini. It's only to use in the hot tub so doesn't need to be fancy or expensive. I've filtered it down to 'new with tags' and 'new without tags' but I'm still clicking on several that are listed as new but in the description says 'worn once'. So I've been reporting them and getting them removed. I applied the filters for a reason, I don't want to be looking at used ones.

amidsummernightsdream · 17/03/2024 21:38

Op i think for linen trousers definitely search by brand. Ive just searched wide leg linen trousers and then individually by brand.
There are some great options for
Reiss
Other stories
Cos
Toast
Reformation
Zara

F1ymetothetoon · 17/03/2024 21:41

Not my experience if anything I'm amazed at how professional the packaging is. Only had a couple of badly wrapped items in flimsy black bin bags - certainly no carrier bags or cat food boxes!

I do wish there was a hide button for certain items in my feed though. Fat hairy man like legs/feet in peep toe sandals is something I don't want to see thanks Vinted.

Globetrote · 17/03/2024 21:44

I know what you mean about some listings with terrible photos and almost no info ie doesn’t say what length the jeans are and there is no photo of the label either. I won’t bother with any item where the clothing is poorly presented or photographed, or the background looks grotty.

I’ve had mostly good bargains, although one dress was in a dreadful state when it arrived but I was too chicken to speak to the seller. I’ve sold a lot too successfully.

goldenlloyd · 17/03/2024 21:44

I'm getting into Vinted, especially for kids clothes. Main gripe has to be people playing fast and loose with the definition of 'excellent condition'.

Was looking at some children's coats the other day and the worst offender was 'excellent condition, there is paint on it'

drowninginsick · 17/03/2024 21:48

I just bought a Hobbs skirt still with tags for £8, it arrived clean but yes in a carrier bag. No complaint here !

Well I normally see stuff on a close up so side or carpet and so clean. Yes some prices are too high but I was filter out anything in good or okay condition.

As for wrapping parcels in used boxes or carriers, it's environmentally friendlier than buying post boxes and bags

BeretRaspberry · 17/03/2024 21:51

I agree. No matter what I look for, it all looks crap. I’ve sold about 10 things on there and even though I’m the worst photographer going, I always make sure there’s no crap in the background and that the items are ironed, neat, visible properly etc. And don’t get me started on the fact that when I’ve sold anything, people want it for next to nothing, yet whenever I’ve looked for anything, it always seems to be overpriced.

ClawdeenWolf · 17/03/2024 22:16

I've had some great deals on there so far. Some of the pics are crap, true, and my last purchase was wrapped in a puppy pad (thankfully unused!) but everything's been in good condition. Personally, I like it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pippa246 · 17/03/2024 22:28

I started off just selling stuff but then noticed a pair of M&S boots which I’d been searching for but they’d stopped doing and got them for £3! Very good condition so now I’m buying too.

Son got a pair of his fancy dan trainers - £400 new and he got his for £100 and they’d only been worn once - absolute perfect condition. Son always laughed at me for buying secondhand but now he’s hooked!

I take really good care with my photos and packing and have sold a fair but with 5 star reviews from everyone!

2under4 · 17/03/2024 22:33

Yes depressing. People desperate to get something in for whatever tat they have lying around, as they're brassic... Endless problems with any and every terrible post / couriering company... clothes which arrive stinky or broken... a load of argy bargy from hideous and / or desperate people. Really bleak.

I still buy literally everything on there though (or ebay or similar), as that's all we can afford 🤷‍♀️

Of course, there is the odd bargain too. But I miss getting stuff from M&S.

Edited to say - hadn't noticed any untidy houses, but would say that's also a sign of the times. People working 2nd jobs with no time or energy to clean up.

Evaka · 17/03/2024 22:35

I've also had a very different experience. I've just sold five items new with tags, and recently bought a beautiful real leather bomber jacket from the sadly no longer Topshop Boutique range, and a silk dress from Jigsaw. I've once received a top that smelled of cigarettes but otherwise I've had scores of great buys.

RaininSummer · 17/03/2024 22:36

All my work dresses, some boots and cardigans are from vinted. You do have to search thoroughly though and ask questions as too often you cant even tell what the fabric is. No idea who sellers don't just state it as most people would want to know if plastic or leather or if a dress was cotton or polyester .

Sageyboots · 17/03/2024 22:37

The only frustration I have is when people have obviously listed stuff and then forgotten about it, then you pay, wait for the item and then find it’s been cancelled/refunded because they haven’t sent it (possibly they’ve sold it already elsewhere). It happened to us 3 times in a row trying to buy a child’s raincoat.

HairLikeAnEasterEgg · 17/03/2024 22:38

RadRad · 17/03/2024 21:11

When you do a search, at the top the Brand setting allows you to select the brands you want or in Personalisation in your profile, you can set up the brands you want to see only.

Ah thanks. Yes I've done that. But what would be great imo would be a function where you could specifically exclude certain brands on a search.

Annymania · 17/03/2024 22:44

I’m still reeling from the audacity of this one 😂 I have so many of these. This scarf is worth over £1000 and it’s new! 🤦‍♀️
