To find Vinted depressing?

Row upon row of dark dingey photos of creased clothing, or photos of people 'modelling' clothes with their house a shit tip in the background.

People wanting top dollar for rubbish brands or things that have seen better days.

Items getting sent in a Morrisons carrier bag or a cat food box.

Just depressing!

Have you seen the price of a Morrison's carrier bag?!

Excited101 · 17/03/2024 20:46

I’ve been buying lots of baby things on there, they’ve all been fab! Only one Asda romper- the cheapest thing I got, has a subtle stain at the top which I didn’t know about in advance… annoying but not the end of the world. Everything else has been absolutely beautiful!

EllaPaella · 17/03/2024 20:46

I love Vinted. I got a great ski jacket for myself and my DC for an absolute bargain, perfect for things like this when kids are growing and they'll only use an item once or twice a year. Things are far more likely to sell if the seller has at least bothered to iron them and present them nicely, I agree.
I wouldn't pay what some people ask for high end brands as you obviously have no right to return or guarantee you can sell on if it doesn't fit. I think of Vinted more like a clothes swap than a place to by high end clothes on the cheap.

Grandmasswag · 17/03/2024 20:48

No. I’ve bought some amazing things from vinted for a fraction of the price. I know what I’m searching for and wait until it comes up. Absolute bargains.

JustMarriedBecca · 17/03/2024 20:48

I've sold on there and bought. I only sell Boden, John Lewis, Next stuff. Kids Nike football boots. I usually find the people who buy from me favourite and will buy again.

The stuff I've bought has all been better quality. Boden, John Lewis, Next. I bought a pair of jeans Boden don't sell anymore because I couldn't get them new.

I wouldn't buy cotton t-shirts (likely to be mis-shapen) or jumpers (bobbly). Linen trousers are likely to crease so probably not those either.

Best outfits have been light summer outfits for the kids, non iron (so it doesn't matter if they've been stored) and wetsuits for the kids. Ski salopettes. Things that probably don't get worn that often.

People buying TU and Florence and Fred probably not worth it because the postage cost eats any savings.

I've done the whole kids' summer wardrobe for less than £20 (plus postage). Bargain.

Love, I sold all last autumn and selling again. France is bringing in laws for fast fashion. It's so important we recycle

opentoadvice88 · 17/03/2024 20:49

What filters are you putting on? I also opt for very good or better then order newest first.

Elvis1956 · 17/03/2024 20:49

No you are not. I've just looked at men's tweed jackets...items that Wurzil Gummage would be embarrassed to wear. One where one pocket flap is tucked in, the other creased to hell. One modelled by a man who is stood like someone has just inserted a broom stick up his anus. Someone has origami folded another...just why would you post such bad pictures...

JamesGetIn · 17/03/2024 20:50

That doesn't reflect my experience at all. I listed 11 items yesterday; most new with tags or new without tags and a couple of lightly worn items and sold the lot within 3 hours.

Decent brands, Boden, Crew Clothing, Tommy Hilfiger. I wanted them sold quickly so priced them lowish but not ridiculous.

I wrap everything individually in tissue paper, then in a brand new carrier bag (I buy extra specifically for this as they work out cheaper than the plastic parcel envelopes). I then wrap them again in another lightly used bag.

I have never had a complaint about my packaging and have even had positive reviews mentioning how lovely items were parcelled up.

I also bought 2 pairs of trousers yesterday and the pics and descriptions for both were great.

Almost all of my purchases have been worthwhile and everything I have listed has sold.

I've never had an issue with any seller - all have been friendly and straightforward 🤷

pinkspeakers · 17/03/2024 20:51

really? I've had some great experiences. I've been buying cashmere jumpers recently. Good brands, lovely quality. I never look at cheap brands.

Oh yes! I got a cashmere jumper currently for sale at £100 for £20. Absolutely perfect.

It's variable and it's definitely true that there's a lot of crap on there. A fiver for second hand George at Asda?! No thanks. I have had some amazing bargains on there but some duds too. I wish the filters could be set to exclude certain brands as trawling through endless Primark/ boohoo etc does get on my nerves.

There’s a filter to exclude certain brands.

Ooh, tell me more! Where can I find this?

AnneElliott · 17/03/2024 21:00

Not my experience of Vinted. DS is into amateur dramatics and it's great for finding stuff for costumes that are cheap. I'm not buying a full price waistcoat or suit for a couple of days wear.

weareallqueens · 17/03/2024 21:01

I have never registered the packaging things are in. Something would have to be hanging out for me to notice! But I do like when packaging is reused. Vinted vibe, innit?

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 17/03/2024 21:04

I buy about 50% of my DD's clothes from vinted, generally good quality Boden clothes in excellent condition. Cheaper and better for the environment.

KeepYaHeadUp · 17/03/2024 21:04

mardylookingfrump · 17/03/2024 20:18

Maybe your algorithm? Or the brands you’re favouriting? I rarely see a bad photo: I get well-lit, on a hanger, white background (usually a period-looking door), full-length, proper description with all boxes filled, etc.

I don’t find second-hand packaging depressing?! I buy second-hand for environmental reasons as well as cost; I don’t want colourful tissue paper and a sticker and a postcard and a box and bubble wrap then outer packaging. I want a £30 Toast dress.

This!

TwoWithCurls · 17/03/2024 21:06

I love Vinted! It's fantastic!

TheFormidableMrsC · 17/03/2024 21:07

Absolutely love Vinted. Have had some amazing bargains. Have not had a single disappointment yet.

Funnyboness · 17/03/2024 21:10

I love Vinted and shop it for environmental reasons as well as saving money so I get annoyed when items come in fresh packaging especially when they’re wrapped in tissue or with stickers etc from Shein! I mainly use it for baby clothes and I am quite picky on sellers and brands. If I find a seller that looks like they have a well presented background/has more upmarket brands I’ll try and buy a bundle from them as it’s more cost effective.

The thing that does annoy me is unrealistic sellers who don’t take into account the extra £3 ish for postage and the buyer fee when they price their items.

Tagyoureit · 17/03/2024 21:10

Not my experience at all.

Everything I've bought or sold has been an absolute breeze.

But when you see something you don't like, you can simply scroll on....

Catsandcuddles · 17/03/2024 21:11

Nope I don't find it depressing. I am very specific about what I'm searching for though, I wouldn't just scroll as then it is like a jumble sale. Once you've bought a few things, recommended items will pop up and less of the random junk.

I don't care what packaging it arrives in as long as its clean and I also make sure my clothes are well presented when I list them.

TillieAnn1945 · 17/03/2024 21:11

I buy all my clothes on there. Have done for ages. Ds17 uses it also.

When you do a search, at the top the Brand setting allows you to select the brands you want or in Personalisation in your profile, you can set up the brands you want to see only.
