My son's school has an all glass isolation room in the hall with three desks, children are put there as punishment? Teachers and students walking passed

I suppose that's the point

To be made to feel degraded and humiliated so so you'll never step out of line and have to back into the

'Box of Shame'

But see that doesn't actually work though does it? Because students are shown disrespect, lower their self esteem, they don't feel included and there starts a vicious cycle

what evidence do you have that it doesn’t?

I find it so funny how I mentioned this to my group of friends and they were all shocked. I mention it here and of course it's totally acceptable!

We can just starting hitting kids again then, if they don't want to get a smack, they just have to behave!

Huge difference between sitting in a a clear box and beating children.

If they don't want to end up in the box they could simply behave.

Psychological violence is fine though

but then how are laws any different with engaging people to comply with society ? otherwise why have laws then ?

Ooh evidence. Just google panopticon for yourself and read some basic info. I’m not ChatGPT

naggynora · 15/03/2024 00:10

Presumably those supporting such a method would be perfectly happy to have this in the workplace also. Can't find a pen? Late for work? Rude to a colleague? In the box you go!

Andthereyougo · 15/03/2024 00:10

If it’s a punishment that works what’s wrong with it?
Standing a misbehaving child outside the classroom door was standard for decades. At least these kids get a seat and something to do.
And if they learn not to disturb the learning of it gets then it’s a win win.

Where to start? Law is a huge and complex body of regulation. A glass humiliation box is, erm, an 18th century idea that never worked anyway.

companies already have full surveillance software across all the computers monitoring everything so in a way its already there

but not all laws work either as some still break them so whats the alternative no laws?

Well no. In the workplace people can be fired if they behave badly.
Schools have had their powers to remove disruptive children reduced.

warmheartcoldfeet · 15/03/2024 00:14

disruptive children aren't criminals in need of humiliation and punishment

they are children

SemperIdem · 15/03/2024 00:15

Yanbu children should never have to sit with the consequences of their actions and feel discomfort as a result 👏🏻

I have googled and it’s become abundantly clear you have no idea what you are talking about.
the device you refer to was for constant surveillance nothing to do with humiliation at all.

The purpose of law is not absolute compliance. Law in itself cannot prevent the breaking of law. Absolute law, which is what you want, is totalitarianism. Oh, also doesn’t work.

It’s an architecture based on absolute surveillance. A glass box is…

no what we need is society to behave and build a better society

Today at my (not SEN) school a teacher was called ‘a fucking fat cunt’ and another was pushed into a door but God forbid we punish them eh? They’re just sweet innocent children.

put them in a glass box then if you think that'll solve it

caringcarer · 15/03/2024 00:21

ballybean · 14/03/2024 23:59

I think it's humiliating for them. They aren't put there because they are a danger. They are put there if messing in class, distracting others etc

Then they should learn to behave in lessons and not to disrupt the education of other DC. Why should the rest of the class fall behind because of a disruptive child who needs to learn to behave themselves?

warmheartcoldfeet · 15/03/2024 00:22

Hermittrismegistus · 15/03/2024 00:16

Criminals were children once

yes and predominantly children that were let down by society.

Put 'em all in glass boxes in schools then. That'll help 🙄

I’m not convinced it would work but that’s not why the OP is against it. She is against it because she thinks the poor little darlings might not like it.
I’m only pointing out to her and people like yourself the kind of behaviour schools are dealing with on a daily basis.
