To feel sorry for the Tories?

The Conservative Party are a British institution. The most successful political party in the democratic world. They're going through a bad time at the moment and have been dealt a bad hand. They inherited a global financial crash which the western world is still to recover from and then a once in a lifetime pandemic which has further crippled the economy. Now there's wars in Gaza and Ukraine. Really unfortunate circumstances for them to operate in.

It looks like they're going to get a really bloody nose in the next election. Starmer has taken the centre ground and now Reform are starting to steal their MPs as well as voters. Now even their biggest donor is caught up in a scandal. When it rains it pours.

How can they recover from this? Can they recover from this?

The Tories are the great survivors but it's hard to see how they can win the next election, or maybe even the one after that.

Winston Churchill led us through World War Two as a Conservative Prime Minister.

And he got voted out by a landslide two months later. Yet you want to “respect” Sunak and his shower of bastards and incompetents 80 YEARS on because of the actions of someone who died before most of them were born?

I’d rather suck a dead dog’s dick, frankly.

Globe22 · 13/03/2024 16:20

😂😂😂😂 that’s a good one, did you manage to keep a straight face whilst writing this!

YouDidntEvenAskIfSheWasThereMoriarty · 13/03/2024 16:21

Fuck the Tories.

NoCloudsAllowed · 13/03/2024 16:21

Lols. I hope they get smashed into a million pieces and never take office again.

They deserve everything coming to them, I don't agree with trad Tory principles but at least they used to have some, they've sold out completely to appease populist right wing.

May they be absolutely wiped out.

Alicewinn · 13/03/2024 16:25

I’m personally sick of little teenage narcissist fuckheads only thinking of their own power/self image without actually being able to lead/ run the country. TBF I did feel slightly sorry for Truss as all she did, was execute what she said she was going to do, but she just didn’t time it right. Her ideas were good though

The Tories haven't been in charge for several years, they were all thrown out and replaced with flagrant ceiminals who have fleeced the country of funds and sold off our assets to their mates. Proper conservatives at least foster business (and no I've never been a tory voter) but they've done everything but this.

I think you'll find that Thatcher sold all our assets off to Tory mates and foreign conglomerates. Even Harold MacMillan (ex Tory PM and grandee of the party) said she had sold off the family silver. The rot started with her and this lot have almost finished the job.

Same sex marriage
Achieved Brexit
Trade deals achieved post-Brexit
One of the fastest Covid 19 vaccine roll outs, achieved outside of the EU
The transformative educational reforms under Michael Gove
Levelling up - all the funding that has been directed to the regions as a result of this, the left behind areas
City mayors

I could go on but it'll feel like a Life of Brian sketch. What have the Tories ever done for us? But i'm not saying there weren't missteps. The Truss budget is still in the minds of voters as it's hit them in the wallet.

No trade deals of any significance have been achieved since Brexit - this has been widely reported in the papers.

It’s debatable as to whether Brexit has been achieved. Yes, we’re no longer in the EU, but it will take decades to smooth out the process of leaving the EU.

Plenty of teachers and children would disagree with you that Michael Gove’s reforms have been ‘transformative’. They have been extremely controversial and it’s not clear if they have added many benefits to the educational system.

Levelling up has been really poorly managed. It’s unclear what it actually means and what the specific benefits are, and it’s not being talked about anymore. There have also been repeated reports that the money allocated to areas as part of levelling up has been distributed unfairly - https://news.sky.com/story/amp/rishi-sunak-denies-favouring-the-south-with-levelling-up-funding-allocations-12790286

I agree with you about Covid vaccines, same-sex marriage and city mayors. The introduction of same-sex marriage still hasn’t stopped the Tories from being homophonic though (e.g. Boris Johnson made many homophobic comments over the years).

Rishi Sunak denies favouring the South with levelling up funding allocations

Rishi Sunak insisted there was a "huge" difference in levelling up funding on a per capita basis, with the North West coming out on top.

I wonder how this thread is avoiding "New & Trending" ?

Probably because the Tories are neither. More “Old & Knackered”. It’s thrown the algorithms out.

MrsMurphyIWish · 13/03/2024 16:35

Gove?! You’re having a fucking laugh mate.

25 years I’ve been teaching and he has RUINED education.

As a PP said, fuck the Tories.

PansyOatZebra · 13/03/2024 16:36

Lol thanks for giving me a good laugh

I can't wait for election night. There are going to be so many glorious 'were you still up for Portillo?' moments. It will be delicious to see hundreds of smug, self-serving fuckwits disappear into the wilderness for a decade or so.

What do you mean by ‘her ideas were good’? The main point of her budget was to increase the wealth of people who were already very wealthy, which is a tiny minority of the population. That’s really poor leadership and governance.

Nospecialcharactersplease · 13/03/2024 16:38

I see in your description of all our national crises the Tories presided over you missed the massive fucking own goal that was Brexit.

The Tories have been a noose around my neck for over a decade. They can go fuck themselves, quite frankly.

iamwhatiam23 · 13/03/2024 16:40

@SomersetTart I didn't say they hadn't did it? Both Labour and the Tories are self serving, liars and hypocrites!

User135644 · 13/03/2024 14:53

Winston Churchill led us through World War Two as a Conservative Prime Minister.

Lived through that personally, did you? 😂.

If so, you’d know he was quite the cunt not that great. I mean, Boris looked up to him, so…🤷🏻‍♀️.

Thisilldo · 13/03/2024 16:41

Hilarious you have posted this question on mumsnet where you a selfish twat if you don’t want to give the money you earn to other people and you’re the devil in disguise if you dare to send your child anywhere than the local sink school.

The throes will recover after a few years of labour calamity.

What people on here don’t understand is is that actually get off our arsed and do ok will be fine whichever party is in power because we pay for the services we need as and when.

LegoDeathTrap · 13/03/2024 16:41

Are you a bot? I can’t imagine a real human being feeling like this.

Nat6999 · 13/03/2024 16:41

The current Tory Government make Margaret Thatcher look like Mary Poppins. I hope they lose so many seats they no longer exist.

Snapplepie · 13/03/2024 16:45

Crikey- imagine describing brexit as 'an achievement'. I feel sorry for my husband, not being able to be with his dad as he died while Tories partied. I feel sorry for the people on trollies in A&E corridors. I feel sorry for all of us dealing with the cost of living crisis. I do not feel sorry for the Tories.

iamwhatiam23 · 13/03/2024 16:45

I also believe that the next election will be the one in which the lowest number of people bother to vote in our history! Most people i speak to dislike our current government but also don't trust Labour!

Your response is hilarious. Are you a DM reader?

Daffnee · 13/03/2024 16:47

I used to be a member of the party, back when there was room for centre right, outward-looking moderate people who wanted a liberal and flourishing society, rewards for work and decent safety net for those who needed it.

I’ll be voting Labour at the next election with a heavy heart. Chasing the UKIP vote has killed my old party, and the party has done immeasurable harm to the country as a result. I’ve no doubt the Conservative Party as I knew it will be back but I give it 20 years.

It's quite hard to make sense of your post, as it's mostly gibberish, but are you saying that you pay for roads as you need them? And if you had a heart attack you'd phone for a private ambulance? Your bins get emptied by your own private binmen, do they?

LizzieSiddal · 13/03/2024 16:56

Like the vast major of the population, I will rejoice when these self serving little shits get voted out. They lie everyday, think the electorate are stupid and have achieved very little in 14 years.

I have the champagne on ice for when they get told to fuck off.
