I don't meal like bugs, heights, death ... I mean something strange.. unconventional.. something that might need a bit of explanation.

I'll go first -

Water towers ... the thought of them makes me shudder.

Me too. And how many people are obsessed with aversion therapy to try to overcome it???? I just can’t!

The Sanex advert triggered me, panning under someone’s arm to all those people. Has a visceral reaction. I feel nauseous and ill.

That Sanex advert gives my mum the heaves, too. I also found it gave me odd feelings to watch. I'm not trypophobic but I'm guessing the Sanex ad tapped into an extreme, instinctual version of that? Some of the trypophobic ai images aimed to shock are bit near the edge for me.

There's a name for the big buildings/planes etc thing. DH looked it up for me. I also find the ocean a touch sinister with no land in sight!

PietariKontio · 11/03/2024 14:03

I have ARFID - not really a phobia as such, although I do have a phobic reaction to some foods, and not that rare I know.

sadie42 · 11/03/2024 14:10

Ketchup, especially remnants on a dirty plate.

ancienticecream · 11/03/2024 14:47

Stickers.

mydogisthebest · 11/03/2024 15:50

Tattoos. Small ones don't really bother me but big ones do. Sleeves really make me feel sick and so do tattoos on legs.

Tissues, loo roll and other flimsy paper. It makes me genuinely feel shaky, sweaty and nauseous.

My local area is covered in the vile stuff.

May I ask the obvious question then as to what do you do when....bidet?

Trypophobia is mine, but it think its a common one. Its a fear or aversion to small holes, clusters or bumps. 😫 Just typing that made me cringe.

Yep. Me too.

Upallnight2 · 11/03/2024 16:07

Vomit and germs

It's fun having kids🫣

VictoriaEra · 11/03/2024 16:13

Bare feet. Mainly, people displaying the undersides of their feet. Certainly cant watch Gogglebox!

Dogsdogsandcats · 11/03/2024 16:29

seeing other people brush their teeth

Purplebunnie · 11/03/2024 16:37

Bits of wood/metal poking out of the water. Drawn to it like others are to cliff edges. Is this a phobia?

Edited to add "of"

Purplebunnie · 11/03/2024 16:46

I can see having read more of this thread that I'm not the only one who is unhappy with objects in water.

The Kelpies!!! I get a full body shudder if I’m unfortunate enough to spot them whilst driving towards Stirling.

I was about to Google them just now to post a photo but I actually was too scared to. The thought of them even gives me the absolute heebie jeebies. Horrible things.

God, they're quite big aren't they!!

Oh me too!!! Even reading your post has make me bork!!

Probably not weird but I have a massive phobia of having my blood pressure taken. So much so, I have no idea what it is.

Thank you! Everyone I know thinks I'm massively weird! I swear I can even smell them sometimes. Ds2's had a wormery in it's main room back in the day - I couldn't go in there to collect him 😔

I suspect from your name that a worm phobia isn't all we have in common!

I don't know if it's a phobia as such but i can't stand it if anyone touches my wrists. It makes me feel physically sick. When doctors sometimes have to take my pulse it takes all the strength I have to last those few seconds.

Same! I can’t look at or think about them or I feel queasy (it will take me some time to forget about them now 🤢)

ALPHAFEMALESINCEBIRTH · 11/03/2024 17:03

i have pogonophobia(Excessive and irrational fear of beards)
its not a fear for me as im not scared but its a extreme disgust

i physically heave if i see a man with one, i even do it walking past in the street

the longer the hair is the worst it disgusts me

i automatically make a sour face then start retching

been like is since birth but didn't discover what it meant until 2021 when i saw a tiktok post

all the men in my family know not to go 2 days without shaving as i cant look at them

my ex (we were together 22 years) shaved every day

i also cant tolerate loads of chest hair or any kind of back hair

legs and privates don't bother me

Pippa246 · 11/03/2024 17:05

blitzen · 10/03/2024 22:01

Yes, I think this is something I have too. I've never put it to the test but I am freaked out by it in principle.

I have a phobia of hulls of boats and I’ve just googled submechanophobia and I think I have it! I never knew it had a name.

I also can’t look at big ship anchors and massive propellers. I remember going to see Speed 2 at the cinema and I was freaked out by the underwater scenes to the point of nearly screaming. Everyone was like….jeez, it’s not that exciting!

RM2013 · 11/03/2024 17:06

When I was younger I used to be terrified of the grate in the bottom of the swimming pool. There were 2 in the deep end and I couldn’t swim over it without panicking. I used to dream that the grate would suck me
down and I’d get stuck and drown. Very irrational but I still don’t like seeing them or swimming over them

Hotgirlwinter · 10/03/2024 21:59

Google earth

when you click on a location and you have no idea what you will see as you scan around an area. Bork

Also, the sea. Not the coast but like the ocean. Absolutely no need for it to be so vast and dark.
Hideous

I was on a sailing trip trip recently and swam behind the boat on a very gentle wind day. Knowing there was a few hundred metres of water below me and me being unable to see anything was a very disconcerting and invigorating feeling! Was convinced I’d be the first great white shark death in Greece.

Plug holes.

@RicePuddingWithCinnamon. Out of interest, have you watched Saltburn?

RicePuddingWithCinnamon · 11/03/2024 17:37

Yes I fast forwarded that bit 😂

Well that would effectively stop fridge snacking 😆

Yes! I don’t think I opened the fridge for about 48 hours. Then, approached with caution for a long while afterwards

@Uniqueusername1 same!!! See also apple cores and banana skins - again, rarely eat fruit as a result.

Also Morris Dancers - freak the shit out of me.

Morris dancers make me feel embarrassed
