I don't meal like bugs, heights, death ... I mean something strange.. unconventional.. something that might need a bit of explanation.

I'll go first -

Water towers ... the thought of them makes me shudder.

Tissues, loo roll and other flimsy paper. It makes me genuinely feel shaky, sweaty and nauseous.

My local area is covered in the vile stuff.

How do you cope wiping your bum?

bossybloss · 11/03/2024 20:55

It’s not a phobia… more a revulsion, but SNOT! I was with a vulnerable client who needed to blow their nose today and my stomach nearly couldn’t take it. ( obviously I offered a tissue)

I have a real phobia of tissues. When women (it’s always women) hold a scrunched up tissue in their hand, it makes me feel nauseated. Or if people use a tissue then put it in their pocket, or paper napkins in pubs <shudder>.

YewandOak · 11/03/2024 20:59

but proper huge flowers like sunflowers/big tropical things....no way can't go within feet of them.

Oh I'm glad I'm not on my own with sunflowers! What IS it about them? Freaky things,my skin is crawing just thinking about them!

reelcat · 11/03/2024 21:03

Crocs (the shoes, not the animals)

Footgoose · 11/03/2024 21:07

Admin / paperwork / printing anything off.

Causes real anxiety.

Thestruggler · 11/03/2024 21:09

Oranges, Prawns. Euucchhh! It’s a smell and texture thing with the oranges and a texture and taste thing with prawns

Mermaidsarereal · 12/03/2024 19:51

Whales... no idea why but they just freak me out! 😅

Itstime2023 · 12/03/2024 22:49

Belly buttons.

Anyone coming near mine makes me want to run!

Dreading pregnancy and the potential of an outside 😆😆

UnctuousUnicorns · 12/03/2024 23:22

Mine is windows, seen from indoors, in the dark, without curtains or blinds, so that if you walk by them, you can see a ghostly version of your reflection. It freaks me out so much that I get nervous and shaky just thinking about it. I always close all blinds and curtains about half an hour before dusk. Also mirrors in dark rooms/low light, can't look in them, such a weird, vague, dimmed reflection, that I fear that one night might not actually be me looking back. 😱 😭

My other "phobia" is buttons; I hate them, horrible, slimy wee things; can't bear to touch them. All my clothes are either pull on or have zips.

Beebopwasthebest · 12/03/2024 23:25

Stickers..especially if they separate/peel/roll/have fluff on them.

Unexpected textures...bit of egg shell in an egg sandwich for example.

scorpiogirly · 12/03/2024 23:38

Binoculars

IHateLegDay · 12/03/2024 23:44

Mr Blobby.
I've been terrified of him for as long as I can remember 🤷‍♀️
Also, fuck the daily mail.

IHateLegDay · 12/03/2024 23:52

I've always been terrified of submarines. When I was little, my parents took me on a trip around a boat museum and there was a real submarine you could go inside (out of the water) and I remember being frozen to the spot and refusing to go in. My mum took my hand and tried to walk me in but I freaked out so much that she gave up.

Also sinking boats. There was a video on instagram of one and my blood ran cold.

SwimmingPoolSharkJumper · 13/03/2024 00:02

Sharks. Which isn’t that unusual. But I’m scared of them in the swimming pool. I love swimming but will sometimes stop in my tracks in an empty pool and look around because somehow I’m convinced I’m about to get chomped.

I had this fear as a child. No idea where it came from. Sharks and alligators in swimming pools. I am terrified of the sea. I like looking at it but wouldn't get in it. My daughter has a terrible phobia of baked beans. It's quite disabling at times.

I find it such an absurd phobia I won’t let it stop me going swimming. But I still can’t stop myself from checking in the middle of a lap!

I also go in the ocean but am actually a bit wary about that. A few years ago I went kayaking on Monterey Bay in California and the next week I read this:
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/california-surfer-reveals-dramatic-details-of-his-brush-with-a-great-white-shark/

I haven’t been back.

Kayaker reveals dramatic details of his brush with a great white shark

It's the sort of event on which horror movies are built, and now there's real-life footage of Brian Correiar's terrifying encounter

it's how horribly big they are, and their huge giant heads, and all their horrible little seeds and the way you can SEE them turning to face the sun throughout the day as though they were conscious 🤮

There's a sunflower field near me and people go frolicking through it taking photos for the 'gram...nightmare fuel.

@Tarkan I've never met anyone else who's weird about knees! I absolutely hate people touching mine to the point I get almost hysterical. This is extremely outing but when I was a teenager, my dad kept grabbing my knees as he found it funny when I freaked out so I broke his nose Blush

ColinRobinsonsFart · 15/03/2024 00:07

Pylons
Electrical substations
Cooling towers
Wind turbines

I think it's from the 1970s kids telly series called 'The Changes'
It terrified me then and continues.... I am nearly 60!

scoobysnaxx · 15/03/2024 00:23

Mannequins and dummy's are terrifying.

Spitting Image use to horrify me. Still does whenever I see the image of Maggie Thatch.

I take it he didn't do it again after that though?

Quite a few people in my family are the same with knees thankfully so it's not an issue there. DH learned early on in our relationship that touching my knee or tickling me were complete no-nos. He apologises like crazy if he forgets and accidentally touches my knee, I just need to look at him and he realises.

Thankfully no nose breaking here but I totally understand how you got to that point!

Salad cream, mayonnaise or any other hideous slimey concoction. I have to look away if anyone is eating anything like that around me as it makes me feel physically sick.
Also Liverpool. It has a very unpleasant, almost evil atmosphere and the River Mersey is downright malevolent. I don't get the same feeling about another other river or city.

I was going to say salad cream! Also sandwich spread. My mum loved them and I found them totally hideous. Weirdly, I like mayonnaise.
