I don't meal like bugs, heights, death ... I mean something strange.. unconventional.. something that might need a bit of explanation.

I'll go first -

Water towers ... the thought of them makes me shudder.

Swimming pools with no water in. Freaky.

DDivaStar · 10/03/2024 22:06

Scaffold lorries. I'm terrified the poles are going to slide off and go through my windscreen. In fact I'm not a fan of driving behind any open loaded vehicles.

This fear was only made worse by a recent incident where someone had badly secured some plywood to the roof of their car. The wind caught it, a sheet snapped in half and landed on the road infront of me. Thankfully due to my fear I was driving some distance behind them !

Lovehearts82 · 10/03/2024 22:06

I also don't like Swarms of insects or flocks of birds.

Caerulea · 10/03/2024 22:07

Wrinkly fingers/toes from water, mine or another persons, I can't deal with it at all. Could never be a hairdresser.

Bruised finger nails 🤢

Dead spiders (live ones too obviously) but dead ones are just as bad.

DistressedDamson · 10/03/2024 22:07

in fact, I’ve written about it on this forum before - that time someone added a photo which scared the shit out of me (although it was great to speak to someone who had the same thing-sue even had it worse and couldn’t deal with pipes anywhere but mine just the toilets, sometimes I have dreams where the cistern is really high and with all wonky pipes-even writing that is making me feel panicky 😱

Abitlosttoday · 10/03/2024 22:08

All of these make a small amount of sense. I have no real aversion to anything in particular but I can where everyone here is coming from. Just a lot of ickiness about.

Swimming pools with no water in. Freaky.

OMG - same!!

Biffbaff · 10/03/2024 22:10

Little bits of paper ripped up on the floor. Didn't realise this was a thing for me until I had children.

The feeling of water running down my arms eg when after washing hands. I have a method that largely avoids this but when there is no towel or something it sometimes happens, and, argh!

Uniqueusername1 · 10/03/2024 22:10

Fruit that may be slightly soft and 'on the turn'. I rarely eat any fruit as a result.

ltappleby · 10/03/2024 22:11

Chair lifts - it’s my legs dangling in space

lazarusb · 10/03/2024 22:13

Worms. Especially after rainfall. They make me gag for some reason. I try to avoid looking at them.

Seeleyboo · 10/03/2024 22:13

Loose buttons. Blagh

So pleased it's not just me! There's an old indoor swimming pool that has closed down in our town and I have to cross to the other side of the road to walk past it just in case I look in through the window by accident!

ZetuianRose · 10/03/2024 21:56

I have submechanophobia

Do we all have to Google?

IDontLikePinaColadas · 10/03/2024 22:15

@Uniqueusername1 same!!! See also apple cores and banana skins - again, rarely eat fruit as a result.

Also Morris Dancers - freak the shit out of me.

There's a certain actor I have a real, physical reaction to, he makes me feel ill, I can't look at photos of him, I have never seen a film of his, even writing this is making me feel queasy.

No idea why at all, he's the only person I feel like this about, and he's probably really lovely, I just can't read anything about him to find out 🤣

ok, take us out of our misery. Who is it?

pinkkiwi · 10/03/2024 22:16

TotalDramarama24 · 10/03/2024 22:02

I don't know if it's a phobia as such but i can't stand it if anyone touches my wrists. It makes me feel physically sick. When doctors sometimes have to take my pulse it takes all the strength I have to last those few seconds.

Same! I literally thought I was the only one!

potas · 10/03/2024 22:17

Seeleyboo · 10/03/2024 22:13

Loose buttons. Blagh

Me too.
Free buttons.
But also unnecessary buttons, like on socks or greetings cards.

scoobysnaxx · 10/03/2024 22:17

Polystyrene drives me insane.
I shudder and it makes my teeth hurt.
That horrendous squeak.

I also like eating salt and vinegar crisps and ketchup but I CAN STAND THE SMELL if someone around me is eating them. Offensive.

MrsALambert · 10/03/2024 22:18

Things underwater that shouldn’t be there. I remember on holiday in Spain when there was quite a bad storm and all the tables and parasols ended up in the pool. Absolutely freaked me out. I’m the same with boats submerged in shallow water

Scooby2024 · 10/03/2024 22:19

Lady birds and crabs.. I am terrified of crabs. I have swam with sea lions, sharks, stingrays and dolphins and not one bit scared.. throw a crab in and I would be out of there.

Vallmo47 · 10/03/2024 22:19

My husband has a terrible phobia of blood tests. Not the needle, but the fact that he’s been pricked and they might not be able to stop the bleeding.

He also has a weird thing about the toilet system … like he’s terrified when he has to check in there if there’s a problem with flush. He thinks it might start leaking water and it just won’t stop.

My phobias aren’t interesting like that - I have a fear of driving and public speech.

MrsALambert · 10/03/2024 22:20

Oh apparently that is submechanophobia

IDontLikePinaColadas · 10/03/2024 22:21

RockyRogue1001 · 10/03/2024 22:15

Do we all have to Google?

Man-made stuff underwater. Think shipwrecks, statues etc.

StopTheBusINeedAWeeWeeAWeeWeeBagOChips · 10/03/2024 22:22

RedRivers · 10/03/2024 22:15

ok, take us out of our misery. Who is it?

Can't type his name, I genuinely feel really queasy now that I'm thinking about him, I might actually be sick if I type his name. Unfortunately not an exaggeration.

He stars in a film called Rush Hour, JC 🤢🤢🤢🤢

Literally no reason at all, I think he must have really screwed me over in a past life or something.
