I don't meal like bugs, heights, death ... I mean something strange.. unconventional.. something that might need a bit of explanation.

I'll go first -

Water towers ... the thought of them makes me shudder.

Copper Coins left on surfaces, no idea why

Waggytail · 10/03/2024 22:23

The window breaking on an airplane and being fully or partially blown out of the plane.

Worse is when I imagine it happening to my 1 year old. It's enough to make me reconsider going on holiday this year! (I have similar fears of him going over the side of a boat)

Freak accidents in general really scare me

ljs2024 · 10/03/2024 22:23

The sea including any images of underwater 😭 I can't even watch kids films that show underwater scenes without feeling a bit unwell. Any scenes of waves etc, I feel like they're engulfing me and I have to look away from the screen. Feel cold all over typing this 😟

Me too.
Free buttons.
But also unnecessary buttons, like on socks or greetings cards.

I HATE buttons proper give me the ick!! Avoid most cardigans for this reason.

Large metal objects in water - like oil rigs or submarines - oh they makes me feel really odd - started with the huge chains at the pier head when I was a child - just eughhh

Man-made stuff underwater. Think shipwrecks, statues etc.

One of my worst is buoys. Which isn’t ideal as I’m on the sea quite regularly 🤣

In particular the chain…. going down to a concrete base 🤮

And the wind farms out at sea….

As for oil rigs, well, they can fuck RIGHT off!! 😐

Blimey - didn't know it had a name! Glad it's not just mad old me

ljs2024 · 10/03/2024 22:28

Also patterns of holes in things 🤮

OneTC · 10/03/2024 22:28

Underwater machinery, the stuff people are talking about oil rigs etc, not a problem, but turbines or propellers or sluice gates are an issue

Reservoirs have freaked me out since I found out about them having machinery in them

Slugs.
Especially the big ones. I found one in my fridge once. That was a difficult day.

I feel your pain. Slugs are awful. Just reading about finding one in the fridge makes me feel ill.

I only found out quite recently that in our last house, we'd often had slugs in the utility room. DP and DD would take them back outside before I saw them and lost my shit. Now that's love.

Oh there is an actual word for that - Thrypophobia. Don’t ask me how I know that.

BaublesAndGlitter · 10/03/2024 22:34

@Scooby2024 I've never heard of anyone else who's afraid of ladybirds. They make me feel itchy and stressed just thinking about them being around in the summer 😩

Also, not a phobia but the feel of putting clothes on after a shower if you're not 100% dry. Makes me feel so uncomfortable that I can't do it.

On a surface level not a lot else bothers me, but if I think too hard about what could be underneath me on a boat, or exactly how high we are in an aeroplane, I feel all off kilter and a bit sick.

Alicewinn · 10/03/2024 22:34

Multistorey carparks , I break out in a sweat and start shaking

chillidoritto · 10/03/2024 22:34

Wind turbines, oil rigs, submarines, cargo ships

CaptainCallisto · 10/03/2024 22:35

Spiral staircases. They absolutely freak me out. I'm not too bad if they're open (though I reallydont like them), but any type of church or castle that has an enclosed spiral staircase is a complete no-go for me. I can't breathe, I get shaky, my vision goes wonky. I just have to get away from them!

I also have a really visceral reaction to stickers or sellotape. The sound of it peeling makes me heave, and if it touches me, I will absolutely lose my shit. If someone has a sticker on that's peeling at the edges, I feel physically sick.

I've never met anyone else with either.

There's a road near me and there's a sign that says "danger underwater machinery" and you can't even see any water from there. I cross the road before I get to it now

brassbells · 10/03/2024 22:37

Open Drains where I want to park my car

I won't park it I see an open drain thing with the gaps in

IYKWIM so the ones with the OPEN SLITS

I am so scared of dropping my keys down them

It has never happened to me or anyone I know and I have never actually seen it happen to anyone in my life

However, I am really scared about them so don't park anywhere near them

DrJoanAllenby · 10/03/2024 22:41

Trapped in clothing.

When I was a child I got my foot stuck in a riding boot and it took several adults to remove it and I think it stems from that.

I once had a zip up coat that got the zip stuck at the top and it wouldn't undo and I felt trapped inside and wanted to rip the coat off. I came very close to having a full blown panic attack because I couldn't get the zip undone and felt trapped inside even though I had happily been wearing the coat for several hours that day before I knew the zip was stuck.

My daughter cut my out of it in the end which was a shame as it was a lovely coat.

MereDintofPandiculation · 10/03/2024 22:42

KNitted fabrics. Feel sick just writing the k word.

IStandWithACrutch · 10/03/2024 22:47

Ferries. I have a horrible fear of seasickness after a particularly horrific crossing on the Irish Sea 20 years ago and even the thought of stepping foot on one makes me feel queasy. I just can’t do it. I’d rather swim in the sea than get on a boat.

CathbadsCloak · 10/03/2024 22:48

Not me, but my sister is terrified of big, fluffy clouds.
