I don't meal like bugs, heights, death ... I mean something strange.. unconventional.. something that might need a bit of explanation.

I'll go first -

Water towers ... the thought of them makes me shudder.

Cold coffee or dregs in a coffee cup. Even worse if someone tells me the coffee they are drinking is cold. Weird thing is I don't even like or drink coffee.

A friend is really scared of custard and frogs.

Used teabags & tea, especially milky tea! It makes me gag 🤢. Also, moths! Evil, horrid things!

I have both of those as well!

I’ve never even tried tea because just the smell makes me gag and I don’t keep it in the house to avoid tea bags.

Someone told me when I was a child that moths have the dust of dead people on their wings. I’ve never forgotten it and been scared of them ever since.

Louise303 · 11/03/2024 02:48

Choking it hasn't happened for a long time but I used to wake up thinking I was choking.

MariaVT65 · 11/03/2024 02:48

Going outside when it’s a combination of dark, cold and windy. Really creeps me out.

Minimili · 11/03/2024 02:52

E.T the extra terrestrial.

I had really bad panic attacks if I saw a clip of the film or a picture when I was little and sometimes used to throw up out of terror if it was really unexpected - that BT advert was the worst in 1999.
As I got older I forgot about it as it’s not a commonly shown film.

I went to a friends house a few months ago and her kids were watching it and I still had the same violent reaction.

My dad won my mum a stuffed E.T toy when they were first dating and she had to take it to my grandparents because I was so terrified of it, I wouldn’t sleep until I saw it leave the house.
When I visited my grandparents they had to lock it in the car boot! My mum didn’t want to get rid of it because it had sentimental value.
I have no idea where it is now and it’s making me fret that I’ll come across it somehow. My grandparents and parents have all passed away but I bet that little fucker is lurking somewhere to jump out on me one day 😂.

Big site machinery like diggers and bulldozers when they are not in use, I can't walk past them and have to drive in the furthest away possible lane if going through roadworks.

I have a visceral pit-of-the-stomach fear that they will suddenly come to life on their own and come after me..... 😳

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 11/03/2024 03:05

Submarines when they surface
The underneath of ships regardless whether they in the sea or dry dock.
Candlewick Bedspreads (it's made me shiver typing that)

Tarkan · 11/03/2024 03:09

Knees. Especially people touching mine. I can happily sit watching my doctor take vial after vial of blood for tests but he once had to do a reflex test on me and I nearly threw up and felt like I was going to pass out at the same time.

Sauces touching fried eggs, especially tomato sauce from baked beans. I rarely order a full Scottish breakfast anywhere because of it and I struggle to sit with DH if he orders one because almost always the beans are put on the plate right next to the egg. I've tried ordering it without beans or with them in a ramekin and the number of times that's forgotten about means it's easier just to order something completely different.

I also can't have anything touch bread or toast if it hasn't been buttered first. No matter the roll/sandwich filling or toast topping, it needs butter first. Even if there's mayonnaise, it needs butter first. DH used to only butter one side of a roll but he changed that because of me. Blush

Seaweed
Knots in wood (I see images in them)

lonelywater · 11/03/2024 03:32

being stabbed to death in the street by some random nutter. not likely, but you never know...

NailsHairNipsHeels · 11/03/2024 04:48

Hearing or seeing other people brushing their teeth
It makes me feel physically sick, get sweaty and come out in goosebumps.
Absolutely fine brushing my own teeth though

Unfortunately in my job I have to be present when people brush their teeth thankfully. It many people bother to do it

allabitmadtbf · 11/03/2024 05:49

Sinkholes.

Yes, I think this is something I have too. I've never put it to the test but I am freaked out by it in principle.

What is it? I’m wary of googling it.

AuntieMarys · 11/03/2024 05:57

Canal locks
Typewriter keys
Flat spaces

PatchworkEle · 11/03/2024 06:10

Wooden cutlery.

I carry a travel set of metal cutlery with me whenever I go out because I absolutely cannot use wooden cutlery. I can't bare the thought of touching it with my hands, let alone putting it in my mouth. How on earth anyone can eat with wooden cutlery is beyond me. The texture and dryness makes me feel sick.

BlastedPimples · 11/03/2024 06:23

Holes - you know, when you see patterns of little holes in sponges, food or anemones. Makes me want to rip them up and destroy them. Really strong reaction to them.

Fungi growing on logs / trees. Absolutely disgusting.

people touching the ends of their fingers together.

Oh my god me too! And people clicking their fingers

I can't cope with spiral staircases. I feel such panic if I have to go up and down them.

Dd2 cannot stand stickers. At primary school she used to get visibly anxious if she was given a sticker for good work. She'd take them off immediately. She's got a few on her wardrobe but she feels ill at the thought of peeling them off.

You are not alone!

Oh, I'm so glad it's not just me!

Trypophobia is mine, but it think its a common one. Its a fear or aversion to small holes, clusters or bumps. 😫 Just typing that made me cringe.

Yep me too. Makes me feel nauseous

I’m here looking to see how many other people are like me, with the real phobia. And it’s one people think is hilarious to show you pictures.

Timspam · 11/03/2024 07:08

Blood pressure machines, as soon as I see one my heart races just can't seem to stop it?

HumphreyCobblers · 11/03/2024 07:19

I am scared of the dark. Not because of ghosts or monsters or anything like that but because of claustrophobia. If we suddenly have a power cut and the lights go out my panic is absolute and instant. If I wake up in the night and can't instantly orientate myself I have been known to scream in terror in my half sleep and start scrabbling the walls to 'get out'. I don't get in lifts lest there is a power cut and we would be plunged into darkness.

I am also very freaked out by discussions around the enormity of space.

TheTigerWhoCameToEatMyHusband · 11/03/2024 07:32

Ice and frozen food, I don't go in the freezer at home or touch frozen food and can't stand the sound of ice. I don't scrape the ice off my car. I hate it. Even thinking about it gives me goosebumps.

BakedTattie · 11/03/2024 07:45

Balloons

hair strands - like hair that’s not attached to someone’s head. When it’s windy, I get the fear that a hair will blow into my mouth. Or if I sit on a chair and there’s a hair that’s not mine on it.

tin foil.
