Posters you still think about

Proof I probably spend too much time on here but does anyone else have posters they still think about every now and again?

Mine is the Australian poster whose son was in the abusive relationship and her many threads about helping him get out of the relationship and realizing she was toxic.

Can’t find the threads at all now but I hope her and her son are still doing well!

Does anyone else have stand out posters or threads that stick in their minds?

Wasn't it CatThiefKeith who once started a thread about a school cake sale. The whole thing was completely bonkers, and escalated rapidly.

I miss the knowledgeable posters booted because of their comments on the feminism boards.

I had a run-in or two with BertrandRussell, several name changes ago.

If it was the Lemon Drizzle Cake wasn't that BupCakesandBunting ?

@Emotionalsupportviper Most of it we have got back but unfortunately the part that got built on we are still contesting. Council don't care that something has been built without planning permission there at all and our legal advice hasn't been great either. At a dead end, especially as its getting too costly now really.

Thanks very much for the update. Absolutely fuming for you, though - how dare some people; but when the authorities side with them and throw the rightful person straight under the bus, without any care for fairness or justice, there ae no words.

CutthroatDruTheViolent · 10/03/2024 21:17

I've been here donkeys but have name changed and account changed a lot. Probably recognisable as I'm not shy about revealing personal details, but I'm not interesting enough for people to remember!

I remember FabbyChic and GabbyLoggon - both bizarre and stream of consciousness type posters. Remember GhostSpirit as well and her INFURIATING posts about her loads of kids and their useless dad.

The only story and person I really remember though is EatShitDerek (although might have been before she namechanged). A troll posted a story saying her small son had taken ill and died of meningitis - I remember reading it walking to work one morning, and thinking about it all day. By the time I was on my way home, it had been outed as a troll. Devastating.

I remember a lot of the stories mentioned here but not the poster names.

HahaBooHiss · 10/03/2024 21:17

A fairly recent one about the woman who went to America to marry her husband and couldn’t understand why her family were so against it. Everyone was pretty unanimous in their concern for her teen daughter but she wasn’t getting it at all. I wonder if she’s sorted out their UK marriage and how her teenager is doing?

SueblueNZ · 10/03/2024 21:18

I haven't had time to read the full thread (18 pages) so am not sure if anyone else has mentioned Chopin and Champagne, the wonderful woman who had for years been navigating a difficult relationship with her awful grabby son-in-law (Lobster Boy) and daughter.

Anyone else miss BertrandRussell? I miss her on political threads. We argued for ages once about whether a Tiger Lily costume was cultural appropriation!.

Did you come to an agreement in the end?

yorkshireteapot9 · 10/03/2024 21:21

Dotty2dot · 10/03/2024 13:24

None really. I don't tend to get emotionally involved with randoms on the internet. Especially MN which is full of troll threads.

How snotty.

The Australian poster is @workworkworkugh and the girlfriend ended up and life was hopefully returning to normal.

slightly less sentimental… the poster who made an owl noise at her colleague when arguing about Yogurt will live rent free in my head forever.
I need to hear more about this, please! (I mean, that might be all there is to it, but yoghurt? And owl noise(s)?)

Yes I remember her!

CaptainCarrot · 10/03/2024 21:24

There was a poster who had two daughters and one son. She adored her daughters and disliked her son, apparently due to issues she'd had with men in the past or some such nonsense. I won't say her username though it has been mentioned on this thread. At a certain point she stopped even referring to her son while continuing to praise her daughters to the skies. I always felt so desperately sorry for him. Imagine being rejected by your mother to that extent.

Meanwhile33 · 10/03/2024 21:26

I think about helplesshopeless sometimes too, she was a lovely young mum leaving a controlling DH, she got away and it was such a happy outcome. I’d love to know how she and her little girl are doing.

Nomchangebeaureau · 10/03/2024 21:29

The woman with young twins who found out her PoS husband was cheating after finding a Facebook message thread that didn’t make sense (deleted messages) think her name was Ophelia? He was absolutely awful to her later - I hope she is happy now. I think that was about 8 or 9 years ago?

BetterWithPockets · 10/03/2024 21:30

I just clicked on this, @LivingColour, and was CACKLING within the first few seconds. Haven’t read the full thread yet (obviously) but am LOVING the OP’s casual mention of doing owl noises in the woman’s face (as you do, clearly?!), and then all the bemused responses. Thank you so much for sharing; can’t believe I missed it at the time! Going back to read the rest of it now…

NotGoingToLie · 10/03/2024 21:34

Oh and there was another poster who was really argumentative - had a range of names (PissssssssedOff was one moniker I think). She’d moved to Perth I think with husband and teen kids then found out her husband was having an affair. It was all a bit murky but she was super aggressive, you couldn’t blame the fella.

Raspberrymoon49 · 10/03/2024 21:35

Can’t remember all names, there are so many, I find every post on here about abusive partners so chilling and desperately want the victims to be able to get out of the situation

lavenderlou · 10/03/2024 21:36

When I first joined MN there was a poster called chocoraisin whose husband had left her when she was pregnant. She used to post about how she was rebuilding her life. I always thought she sounded like a very strong person and hope everything turned out well for her and her DC.

No. There was no way I was going to concede that a fictitious character’s costume was cultural appropriation, there was no way she was going to back down either. It was ridiculous how much time we both wasted over it.

EmmaEmerald · 10/03/2024 21:38

My favourite post by CatThiefKeith was when she was camping in her sister's garden, she somehow managed to make it a hilarious story including hooded monks - ghosts? - that were rumoured to be in the local area. I wish it had been archived, I was laughing so hard I think the neighbours probably heard me. Bless her.

SilverDoe · 10/03/2024 21:39

GreenYoshi12 · 10/03/2024 20:59

not the point of the thread but I never actually think any of you actually remember anyone on these threads - it’s like when people say ‘oh I’m thinking of you OP’ or ‘you’ll be in my prayers OP’ - I always think bullshit

I absolutely do think of the poster I posted from time to time, especially as said when thinking of people in my own life, including myself when I am struggling.

Maybe what you post can make a bias toward other posters; some people only post lightheartedly or comment, but I have posted some really vulnerable posts on here because of the anonymity and perceived investment and realness of other posters. As in, it feels like a place people really do share difficult things.

There are lots of things I really don't like about mumsnet and sometimes I wonder why I still linger around here, but I do genuinely believe a lot of posters (which makes me quite naïve a suppose)

Barbadossunset · 10/03/2024 21:40

Blossomtoes - I agree with you.
Not surprised though that BR wouldn’t back down - she always had to be right about everything.

Moonlightdust · 10/03/2024 21:42

GEG (aka green eyed gardener) thread. I got so invested in that love story and how they ended up married. I later read it was all fictional which is sad if true ☹️

Feelingstrange2 · 10/03/2024 21:43

wizzler · 10/03/2024 18:54

I remember Rivens threads : life was so tough for her and as I recall it just kept getting harder as policies changed

Expatinscotland, I remember praying for her Dd

Blondeshavemorefun was someone who was always on the same threads as me about 10- 12 years ago and I always thought I would get on with

I think it was Tinydancer who had the bridezills thread that had us all howling

Blondes is on the premium bond threads now!

Soberfutures · 10/03/2024 21:48

One I remember but don't know if was real/troll was a woman who husband had been injured in a crash? And when in hospital she discovered an affair just as they were about to move house? Sycamore 4 trees was her name I think?

Or the lady in Switzerland who was dying and her husband was now with her friend. She wrote so beautifully and I think she got offered a job which ended up a scam? Or I maybe mixing 2 posters together? 🤔
