Hi Guys just received this from
my neighbours. We’ve gotten a new pup but there is minimal if no smell at all. She poops beside the bins so if anything they’d be smell from the bins. The gate must have only opened as it wasn’t banging previous to this message. It’s not easy to look into our garden through the fences either so it’s clear they are going out of their way. Could I get some help responding to the second text. Thanks!

I would reply. "I'm so sorry about that. I'll get the gate sorted, and will pick up the dog poop more often. Thanks for letting me know."

Gettingonmygoat · 06/03/2024 16:51

So glad you are not my neighbour, your garden stinks now but in the height of Summer will be a hundred times worse.

Environmental health could be called by neighbours.

From a council website

''Dog fouling is a major concern to many people, not just because of the mess it causes, but because it can be a health risk. Dogs may deposit roundworm eggs (toxocara canis) in their faeces, which become infectious after about 3 weeks, and can remain so for up to 2 years.
Anyone, but particularly children playing near to the ground, can run the risk of picking up and swallowing the eggs. The eggs then hatch in the intestine, burrow through the intestine wall into the blood stream and pass into the body.
Possible symptoms of toxocaral infection range from aches, dizziness and nausea to asthma and pneumonia, but as these symptoms can all be caused by other things, infections often go undiagnosed. In the UK there are around 100 cases of toxocariasis diagnosed each year.
In rare cases eye disease and loss of vision can be caused when the toxocara larva passes through the eye.''

We lived next to neighbours who let the dog poo along their side of the fence and didn’t clean it up and it was revolting to the point we barely used our garden. Poo left out smells. It’s unhygienic and will attract flies. Clean up after your animal by bagging and disposing of poo and hosing down/disinfecting the area where the dog wees poos at least every other day. This is called being a responsible dog owner.

muddyford · 06/03/2024 16:58

I bag up my dogs ' poo and take it to the dog bins. They are emptied a couple of times a week. I don't put it, even bagged, in my domestic bin.

Gab3105 · 06/03/2024 16:58

Just an update for the people that weren’t too helpful.

we pick up the poo regularly but have had a vomiting bug for two days. It’s puppy poo which you cannot smell outside and especially in the colder weather. The garden was last cleaned on Monday so there’s hardly any poo out there. My issue is that you really need to try to even see into our garden. We do not share a garden at all. There are two fences between us!!

What do you say?

I'm really sorry about that. I am bagging up her poo but I'll double bag it from now on and I'll make sure to wash the area she toilets every day.
The gate should be closed. I'm not sure why it's not. I'll make sure it's closing properly. Thanks for letting me know.

Of course puppy poo smells.

Have you picked it up now?

Obeast · 06/03/2024 17:00

They don't mention looking in your garden, they mention the stench. (And the irritating noise)
Puppy shit does smell, obviously.

Talipesmum · 06/03/2024 14:30

“I’m so sorry, gate is properly closed now. And we will be picking up the dog poo much more often, huge apologies”

^This 👏🏻👏🏻and do it. We have a dog, I love dogs! But Jesus wept pick up that poop. Nobody want to smell or see poop.

I go out straight after my dog, bin the poop and throw water down if need be. He’s elderly so only has a short walk outside, so most of his business is in the garden.

Wigtopia · 06/03/2024 17:01

why would you not clean up the poo?! My mind is blown.

IncompleteSenten · 06/03/2024 17:01

Are you saying that your neighbour is lying when they said there's a smell and that they cannot smell anything so they noticed you have a puppy then got into your garden so they could see where the dog poos in order to pretend they can smell it?

Lovemycat2023 · 06/03/2024 17:04

Why would puppy poo not smell? Don’t they eat the same food? I’m confused.

Puppy poop does smell. I have a 4month old pup. If you are unwell or not, it is your responsibility to take care of the poop. Its a full time job looking after a dog, but that is what you've signed up to.

HappiestSleeping · 06/03/2024 17:05

Dog poo should be double bagged to go in a domestic bin.

Mrsttcno1 · 06/03/2024 17:07

Ee God honestly some people. Surely it’s common decency to pick up your dogs shit straight away and pop it in the bin? Trust me, puppy poo does smell & puppy’s also tend to poo a lot more than adult dogs. So if it hasn’t been picked up since Monday then for my adult dog that might be 4 poo’s max, for a puppy that could easily be 9 or 10. Pick up your dogs poo & put it straight in the bin!

BMW6 · 06/03/2024 17:08
  1. Puppy shit smells of shit because it's shit.
  2. Pick up immediately, at least daily, not "regularly".

Above all, your neighbour has complained, justifiably, TWICE. Raise your standards.

Puppy poo is especially likely to be laden with roundworm eggs. See post above .
Almost all puppies are born with roundworm, even if the mother is wormed, because of the life cycle of the roundworm.

Wormers do not target the encysted larval stages which migrate to the puppy in utero and in mother's milk.

I hope you are following a strict worming plan via your vet.

LittleGreenDragons · 06/03/2024 17:09

Dog poo absolutely does stink. If you can't smell it then you obviously have a problem with your olfactory organs. Clean up your shit. Mend your gate. Be a better neighbour. This is 100% a you problem.

Wigtopia · 06/03/2024 17:10

Also, puppies poop at least three times a day, often more. Today is Wednesday and you said you last cleaned up the poop on Monday. That is a whole lot of crap right against a neighbour's fence. They are being very restrained in their messages to you.

It's odd that you are getting defensive about this. From your neighbours' messages and these responses it should be clear that other people do not think that what you are doing is not OK. You are in the wrong, so just sort it out!

TheNoodlesIncident · 06/03/2024 17:11

When I was ill my DSis came round to clear my cats' litter tray. Maybe you could make an arrangement with someone to help you in these sort of circumstances (and of course you reciprocate) so that your neighbours don't have to endure dog poo left lying around outside? Then pick up promptly every single time otherwise, it's disgusting leaving poo on the ground.

And my NDN's gate is often banging in the wind, it's not a minor niggle when it's windy I can tell you, it's really massively annoying. I don't have contact details for this neighbour so I couldn't ask them if they could please bolt their gate and had to put up with it for the duration of the windy spell.

Your neighbours sound lovely, you don't sound that considerate of other people at this point.

Puppy poo doesn’t smell???? Lol

smiledarnyou · 06/03/2024 17:13

The garden was last cleaned on Monday

What? You need to be checking the garden regularly, a few times a day maybe, not leaving it for a day or two and doing a big clear up. Supervise your puppy when he goes out to do his business so you can clear it up straight away!

Nchanged89 · 06/03/2024 17:13

Why do you think puppy poo doesn't smell?

Ladyj84 · 06/03/2024 17:14

Just because you can't smell it doesn't mean others can't. Our next door neighbour the minute the sun shines jeeez the smell of male dog wee pongs. So we had a polite word the other day and she's had it pressure washed since.
