Hi Guys just received this from
my neighbours. We’ve gotten a new pup but there is minimal if no smell at all. She poops beside the bins so if anything they’d be smell from the bins. The gate must have only opened as it wasn’t banging previous to this message. It’s not easy to look into our garden through the fences either so it’s clear they are going out of their way. Could I get some help responding to the second text. Thanks!

double bag and bin it & then clean the area after every poop, it's not difficult. Make sure you clean your bin our & disinfect it after it's been emptied too or you will get maggots and they really stink - worse than the poop!

The fact they have mentioned the gate as well suggests to me that they are busybodies. What is it to do with them if your gate is open?

Make sure the garden is tidy for the health of your puppy, but I’d just send back a breezy “thanks for letting me know” and leave it at that.

A banging gate is very annoying.
Probably annoying other neighbours as well.

Dog shit left lying about is a serious health hazard Roundworm eggs become viable in older poo.

A health hazard as the dog itself will be re infecting itself and also risking children.

Why on earth do feckless people get dogs?

Clean up the shit or don’t get a dog at all.

Hiddenvoice · 06/03/2024 14:48

Apologise for the smell and bag and bin any dog mess that is about. When our dog goes to the toilet it really does smell so we need to bin straight away or the smell will linger.
If your neighbour is passing the bins a lot then it might be that they can smell it. I also think they’ve used the banging gate as an excuse to text you so you didn’t think they were having a go at you over the dog mess. Their texts seem very polite so I’d send a polite one back.

DevaleraSpawnOfSatan · 06/03/2024 14:52

Clean up after your dog.

heldinadream · 06/03/2024 14:53

You let your dog poop by the bins and leave it there?
I think your neighbour is very kind and tolerant.
Apologise and clean poop immediately please, nothing else is remotely acceptable.

Allthegoodusernamesweretaken · 06/03/2024 14:54

Apologise. Tell them that you’ll double bag and bin immediately. Rinse the dog loo area with bleach and water or Jeyes Fluid, just picking up isn’t enough for good hygiene.
Check that you dont have a fox/stray cat problem if there’s random scat along the fence. Also good for your puppy’s safety if there’s unwormed/ unvaxxed animals about.

NestaArcheron · 06/03/2024 14:54

Pick up your dog shit.

IfYouDontAsk · 06/03/2024 14:57

She’s very politely told you to stop leaving stinking dog shit next to your shared fence. So the decent thing to do would be to reply with profuse apologies, explain that you’ll dispose of the dog poo straight and will ensure that it’s cleared up straight away in the future.

She’s not the one in the wrong here.

K0OLA1D · 06/03/2024 14:58

How long are you leaving the poo there??

During winter we can go a day or two, to wait for a break in the rain or when we are actually in in the day light, but never longer than that! Summer it's every poo. Dog poo stinks, especially if you've had a bit of sun like we have this week

TraitorsGate · 06/03/2024 14:59

Pick up your own dog shit every time the puppy poops, clean around the bin and ground with bleach, keep the gate locked, apologise and send them a thank you for letting me know, it won't happen again bunch of flowers.

BMW6 · 06/03/2024 15:01

Aren't you picking up the poo every time? ???

If you aren't - shame on you. Start now and pick up as soon as the shit appears. Apologise to your neighbour who has been very polite.

Getupat8amnow · 06/03/2024 15:06

We have a dog who refuses to poo in our garden but we always clear his poo as soon as it is done and we would if he pooped in our garden. In our last house the people next door didn’t clean up after their dog in their garden and the stink was terrible, particularly in warm weather. The flies were a nuisance too especially the big revolting blue bottles that were attracted to the poo.

If you have a dog clear it up straight away.

GoldDuster · 06/03/2024 15:06

I think the reply depends on whether there is dog poo near the shared fence. If there is then an apology would be appropriate.

DrJoanAllenby · 06/03/2024 15:06

Take your dog out into the garden on a lead so you can see where it shits and immediately pick it up.

It sounds like you are just being lazy and opening your back or side door to let the dog go out and crap wherever and if it's not in your line of sight you aren't bothered where it's had a shit.

Your neighbour is being exceptionally polite.

mommybear1 · 06/03/2024 15:09

Have I read this correctly you let your dog poo by the bins and don't pick it up or bag it so your poor neighbours are dealing with not only the smell but the mess? Let the dog go in your garden and clean it up.

purplehotdogs · 06/03/2024 15:10

Your response is: "Sorry for the smell, we'll make sure it's double bagged to mimimise smell going forwards! We'll also make sure the back gate is bolted properly, thanks for the heads up."

No idea why it's not imediately clear to you that a) your dog's shit stinks and your neighbour can smell it EXACTLY WHERE YOU SAID IT IS, and b) gates that bang in the wind are super annoying and it's easy to fix.

OpalTree · 06/03/2024 15:13

"Hiya, so sorry, I will make sure all poo is immediately cleared up and put in our lidded bins from now on."

CORPSICLE · 06/03/2024 15:18

My neighbour has 2 dogs and they tarmacced the garden, they just shit in there now and no lie, over Christmas it was not picked up for 2 months, its full again now, they only pick it up every month or so, dirty bastards 🙄

flea101 · 06/03/2024 15:19

Why are you not cleaning it up straight away? You are letting the puppy out and keeping an eye on it presumably, take a bag and pick it up, then bin it! Not difficult. Be responsible. And perhaps an apology to your poor neighbour

Aviee · 06/03/2024 15:22

Ewwww clean your shit up.

viques · 06/03/2024 15:23

Talipesmum · 06/03/2024 14:30

“I’m so sorry, gate is properly closed now. And we will be picking up the dog poo much more often, huge apologies”

Good response. Though I would say re the poo “ we will be picking up our dogs poo immediately and disposing of it in double bags so that it doesn’t smell between bin collections”

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 06/03/2024 15:23

Dog should be toileting in your garden but should always be picked up immediately wherever they toilet.

viques · 06/03/2024 15:27

And your poor bin men,! Imagine them having to wade through your dogs stinking crap to do their job.

A banging gate might be annoying but I can’t think that I would ever text a neighbour over it, or that I would expect to receive such a text. That to me suggests that they are quite highly strung.

The OP hasn’t said that there is dog mess there, in fact the OP says that the dog doesn’t go there, everyone has just assumed that the neighbour must be correct. I just assume they might be a bit highly strung. I did specifically say that the OP should keep the garden tidy.
