Maybe I'm overacting but I don't think I am. The other day I was at a cafe with my friend (31F) and I was pouting my lips when she looked at me and said 'that reminds me' and started applying chapstick. I was a bit confused by this but then I realised what she meant and I was very angry. But then yesterday we went out again and I can't remember the conversation but I stuck my teeth out in a funny way and she looked me up and down and said in a smug voice 'I need to book my dentist appointment' and she set a reminder in her calendar. Am I overreacting or is this not on? And how do I approach it without sounding paranoid?

It would be more fun to take this further.
Pick your nose, scratch your bum, see what she comes up with.

OP scratches her crotch:

”Ooh, that reminds me - my flaps are desperate for a waxing”.

I unsent my old message and sent a new one and she's read it right away but hasn't responded.

Yikes! I think this is about to explode a whole lot more than lip fillers!

This has to be a wind up. This can't be a real thing.

FlissyPaps · 03/03/2024 18:23

@MadAntonia Not necessarily. Some adults make funny faces. It’s part of their sense of humour.

It’s just pure childish though, it isn’t humorous. Especially in a cafe when two adults are trying to have coffee/lunch.

If I was out for lunch with an adult friend and they started randomly pouting/gurning mid conversation I’d be confused.

L0bstersLass · 03/03/2024 18:24

How do you even begin to respond to a message like that out of the blue?!!

She'll either be:
a) Laughing her head off
b) Worried about mental health
c) Genuinely taking you seriously and will be hurt

I'd be wondering if you were on glue.

That message is 😂but also totally 😬

You're coming across as more than a little self-obsessed, OP.

Why do people who criticise you automatically have to be jealous? It's a weird stance to take. Have you even considered that you might have been annoying her?

MonsteraMama · 03/03/2024 18:25

I can't be the only one who's been sat here pouting and gurning to myself trying to work out in what context you'd be doing that mid conversation?

I did it as well
My DD walked in the room and asked me if I was in pain

Seaside3 · 03/03/2024 18:32

Are you a horse?

OP I can only imagine you’re a very insecure person and very jealous of this woman.

It sounds as though this woman saw you as a friend and it’s quite a shame for you (possibly not for her) that you are ruining a friendship over your insecurities and jealousy of her.

Damnloginpopup · 03/03/2024 18:34

Yeah right so she kept doing this and I was like wow and she was like what and I was like no way and she was like yeah and I was like woah!

Sorry but she's a weirdo and needs to sort herself. If you really are a good friend, just tell her (nicely)

I dunno if it's just because I've had a glass of wine but that made me lol

nosleepforme · 03/03/2024 18:37

The message you sent your friend is out of order.
if it were me, I’d ignore you and never talk to you again!

Blossomclouds · 03/03/2024 18:38

I'm afraid you are mad, or at least slightly paranoid. Sorry love, have a think x

Riapia · 03/03/2024 18:38

OP could you please post pics of you pouting and showing your teeth.
We will all be able to see how hilariously amusing you are.
We will all be in hysterics.

You are being very misunderstood on here.
ATB.

ForTonightGodisaDJ · 03/03/2024 18:38

You can't equate her needing chapstick with her thinking that you need chapstick (I presume this is why you're upset). You just pouted your lips ergo what goes on lips? chapstick/lipstick/lip gloss.

DaftyLass · 03/03/2024 18:39

Your message you sent was rude and sounds like you are trying to stir up some shit

Good point. Unless she was taking selfies?

NonPlayerCharacter · 03/03/2024 18:41

Too - many - responses....

Namechangeywangeyhangey · 03/03/2024 18:42

Could she not have seen your lips and reflected that she needs to apply her chapstick as hers are lacking your sheen, same with your veneers - the fact you've taken offense to it seems to suggest some deep insecurities on your part, which is sad but nothing to do with her being jealous.

OneStripeySockAndOneSpottySock · 03/03/2024 18:42

Duckface and Chapstick

Sounds like 2024 version of Cagney and Lacey

SlightlyJaded · 03/03/2024 18:42

I mean, did she REALLY say "Oh that reminds me, I must put on my chapstick/call the dentist". Who even talks like that? It reads like the clunky dialogue form a really badly written, Year 8 school play.

You are at pains to tell us that you were havng a laugh and pulling faces OP. If you were, then why not just ask her "Oi cheeky - what do you mean by that?"

I can't get my head around the drama about nothing
