Will my kids get 'bullied' if I make them take their things out with a bum bag?

I want them to have somewhere to keep their phone, wallet and sweets. A rucksack is no good. Would a bumbag be acceptable?

Let your kids choose. Bags are a nightmare. It eases off by 16.

People do mislay their bag and belongings otherwise they’d be no such thing as lost property boxes and departments, or find my phone apps or bank apps putting a temporary stop on cards. We’re a forgetful bunch.

So, @HMW1906 maybe we should all not be allowed out to wander the streets - as collectively and as a general rule none of us can be always trusted to look after our things?

@coodawoodashooda
entirely normal for a mum who is paying for the bag to be asking questions on a forum about them. I guess you pay for replacement items lost so you have a financial interest in finding the right solution.

These bags are popular because they are small, light, handsfree, and less easy to lose because they are strapped on you, and they have the added security of making it more difficult to pickpocket if worn across the chest.

As the bags are a popular, mainstream, useful, item they would prob be good for your kids.

You could have fun choosing them together :) or if they dislike them, doing research to find an alternative that is just as good.

Maybe a small satchel? I think it varies across the country. It’s a very roadman wannabe drug dealer type thing here where I live. When I was a teen I just had a crossbody bag, or deep pockets for my phone. Have your kids got a history of losing phones etc? When I was younger it was my #1 priority and I used it that much I couldn’t possibly have lost it without noticing as it was never out of my hand 😬

I’d ask your kids if you haven’t what kind of bag they would like. I am a scatty ADHD forgetful person but never left mine behind at a park, it’s a hard thing to forget in my experience unless theft is the worry.

PorridgePotter · 02/03/2024 16:44

Cross body bags are fashionable with both sexes (I have a fashion conscious 18 year old and him & his friends pay ridiculous amounts for them, because they are suitable for festivals etc)

That has now fed down to younger DC generally.

Vans do quite nice ones for kids, not to bulky but have enough room in them for a few things.

Boysgrownbutstillathome · 03/03/2024 17:38

There is nothing wrong with a bumbag.

BooBooDoodle · 03/03/2024 17:49

Bum bags are actually back in except you wear them across the front of you now. I was on a city break over half term and loads of adults and teens were wearing them. I bought myself one in Primark. So easy to wear and wear under a jacket to keep valuables safe. Easily accessible.

Bumbags are really fashionable at the mo but they're worn across the body instead.

This is what I was going to say. All my kids mates wear them across body especially the boys.

Mere1 · 03/03/2024 19:30

Agree with 60percentclub.
across body ‘bum bags’ are really fashionable.

HeadsShouldersTitsandArse · 03/03/2024 19:31

Sorry if I’ve missed it, how old are your kids?

SquareCrumpets · 03/03/2024 20:22

DD (13) asked for one for Xmas. She had borrowed on for a festival last year and loved it. I don’t think her friends have said anything negative about it.

Orangeandgold · 03/03/2024 20:37

Side bags are in right now.

iwishiwasonacruise · 03/03/2024 21:28

My kids are 16 and 12. They do not use a bag and I usually can't get them into a coat either 🙄 both have a HyperJar card and Zip card in their phone cases and the older one now has Apple Pay too, that's one pocket. Gum and a tenner for emergencies in the other. Job done. My eldest did use a cross body bum bag type thing on holiday last year cos he always had a power bank and a mini speaker, but don't think he would be caught dead with it locally.

CreamOrJamFirst · 03/03/2024 21:41

@VanCleefArpels The yoof and my aged mother. 🤣. Dead handy she can keep her phone and purse close and hold onto her walker.

Pipkin1234 · 03/03/2024 22:24

The uniqlo bum bag type things worn across the body are popular at the moment. My very fussy daughter was even happy to use one at festivals last year.

ireallycantthinkofaname · 03/03/2024 22:57

nrft but just ask them what they'd prefer to use?

Disabledmomma · 04/03/2024 05:11

I use a wheelchair andbyhese are so practical. I've had loads of people ask about them. My teen and preteen use them too and their friends use similar. Loads of choice on Amazon. My phone, purse, keys fit in and when needed san-pro too.

I haven’t seen any kids wearing one and I work in a school….

They've been in for like 3 years now....

Weddingmom · 04/03/2024 06:05

This is so weird

Weddingmom · 04/03/2024 06:07

Timetogohome2 · 02/03/2024 13:43

We are in London too and our late teenage nieces wouldn’t be caught dead with them (just asked them).

According to them they are a “middle age woman thing, especially the Uniqlo one with people trying to make themselves look younger” and if the see a guy with them then there is an assumption that they are a drug dealer

Personally I think they look ridiculous at any age

Maybe your nieces are out of the loop

?

Yerroblemom1923 · 04/03/2024 06:16

@Northernsouloldies what is a ,"roadman"? Is it like Mr Bull from Peppa Pig who likes to "dig up the road"? I'd have though a hi vis with pockets would be more useful than a bumbag.

This is so weird

It certainly is!

liveforsummer · 04/03/2024 07:20

Dd10 would wear a bum bag. She has some nice river island ones. Dd13 would be horrified but will reluctantly take a cross body bag if no sufficient pockets. She squeezes bank card, and emergency note and her bus pass in to the back of her phone case though so this depends on your individual child
