Will my kids get 'bullied' if I make them take their things out with a bum bag?

I want them to have somewhere to keep their phone, wallet and sweets. A rucksack is no good. Would a bumbag be acceptable?

I could Google blue grass and I’d get pictures come up…. Doesn’t mean it’s true or popular 😂

I seen to have upset you with this one 😆 don't get worked up, we probably just live in different parts of the country.

3luckystars · 01/03/2024 23:48

No it’s not ok, at any age.

titchy · 01/03/2024 23:48

How many bloody sweets do they need to transport with them that requires some new carrying device? Phone in pocket a, small wallet in pocket b.

How old are they?

Timetogohome2 · 01/03/2024 23:49

No they look awful both round the waist and round the neck.

They would definitely be commented on (and not in a good way) round here

BookShark · 01/03/2024 23:51

DS uses something like this when pockets won't quite do and he doesn't want to take a full bag. But he's nerd central so may not be the best person to give fashion advice. Works for him though!

whiteboardking · 01/03/2024 23:57

I meant no don't. Round here they'd look very odd

HeddaGarbled · 01/03/2024 23:58

Also not sure about wallets: do they not just carry cash in their pockets, if they even carry cash at all?

shhsj · 02/03/2024 00:02

The pics that @VanCleefArpels posted are exactly how I see kids round me wearing bumbags

easylikeasundaymorn · 02/03/2024 00:18

I can't believe people haven't seen the ubiquitous uniqlo body bags and various rip offs (as per photos, bum bag worn across the body) - forget about googling pictures just walk down any high street. It's been a hugely trending 'look' for at least the past 6 months, they have multiple versions in literally any shop selling bags, from designer to high street to supermarket, etc.

NewName24 · 02/03/2024 00:30

How old are they ?

I mean, surely if they are old enough to be out without you, then they are old enough to have their own opinion - this is hardly the same as a discussion about putting your toddler in reins.

Oh, and yes, the 'cool kids' all wear what I would describe as a bumbag, across their chest / shoulder now. Surprises me as teens aren't generally known for wearing things that are quite practical / sensible as "ket bags" are.

Blanketpolicy · 02/03/2024 00:41

Just asked ds(19) about bum bags and he said “no, absolutely not! Nobody uses them. Only on holiday”

He has always had trousers with zips or deep pockets, never used a wallet as he had contactless on his phone and an emergency £10 tucked into the case.

He never lost anything, if they are prone to losing things they need to face the consequences so they learn to take better care of their stuff.

Does he really need to carry sweets regularly?

Yes same here too. Makes me chuckle seeing it though. Looks uncomfortable.

SD1978 · 02/03/2024 00:50

How old are the kids and what's the circumstances they need to carry their stuff? In school, trip away with you, etc.

Northernsouloldies · 02/03/2024 00:50

Isn't it part of the roadman look.willing to be corrected

Pinkfrlls · 02/03/2024 01:01

I don't think I could have persuaded my son to have left the house wearing a bumbag either slung round his waist or neck.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 02/03/2024 01:02

Definitely in a "bum bag across the body" place here
Or those little Addidas shoulder bag thingies
Or... shock horror... BACK PACKS

You seem weirdly invested though. Surely DC can work it out themself....

5YearsLeft · 02/03/2024 02:04

How old are DC? As that would probably have an effect on most comments. Any additional needs, as you’re worried about them setting a ruck sack down?

Goodeyedeer · 02/03/2024 02:50

@2907fe9166a247bb9f7 , @60PercentClub is right, regardless of whether you see them or not, they’re very in these days with kids.

Mummyoflittledragon · 02/03/2024 03:05

Have given up with my 15 yo dd. She carries her phone if not taking a coat. Not lost anything so far.

RausageSoul · 02/03/2024 03:12

Need so much more info! Bumbags worn cross body potentially acceptable if they are from Hackney but not the mean streets of private school... get me? Bless up.

AcridAndStanLee · 02/03/2024 03:21

I have a 12 year old who refuses any type of bag. She just carries her phone with card and cash in it. It must be really annoying but it's her choice. She only started wearing a coat when it was branded. Before that she couldn't possibly allow the embarrassment of her peers knowing she even had one.

They need to pick out their own storage or they won't use it.

GlitterBall91 · 02/03/2024 03:48

Bumbags are fashionable here too, across the body

mydrivingisterrible · 02/03/2024 03:59

PhoenixStarbeamer · 01/03/2024 23:38

Bumbags are cringe unless you're an 18 year old festival loving girl.

Haha, and you've got glitter on your face and the bumbag is neon

Cormoran · 02/03/2024 04:16

Ditch the sweets, ditch the wallet, put money and any cards needed inside the phone cover.
