To think men just hate women?

1000 replies

Justsomethoughts · 29/02/2024 22:03

The more I think about it, the more I conclude that men must despise us. I think the news today about Wayne Couzens has got me pondering… My thoughts as follows:

Ive read so many threads on here about how little men contribute to household work.
Women are expected to do 99% of housework and childcare whilst sucking it up and looking pretty. This percentage doesn’t seem to change much if they also work. God forbid women complain (I refuse to use the word nag, a word only used by men when talking about women!) as they asked for a family and should be grateful they have a husband and children.

We should look visually appealing/maintain our appearance for as long as possible but not too much - that would be ‘asking for it’. If we don’t we will probably be replaced by a younger/more attractive model.

We can’t walk alone at night as we are at risk of harm (by men).

A very large proportion of female homicides are committed by males living with the victim

The list goes on and on. I know these aren’t brand new facts and obviously ‘not all men’ before people come for me but my god it’s so depressing when you think about it.

How many times do people have to explain that this is not about the men in your immediate family, but men as a class? The men denying women an education, the men keeping them out of the workplace, the men committing 99% of violent crime? Is it possible for posters to look outside their own tiny bubble and read the paper?

Who is denying women an education? More women are in higher education than men.

Some of this is just victimhood for the sake of it. Women at least here in 2024 can be anything they want to be.

Goldenbear · 06/03/2024 10:58

Theirs not 'there's'

Sususudio · 06/03/2024 10:59

@User135644 The UK is a tiny island in the world. Seems to have escaped your notice. However, even in the UK there are women who are denied education outside your bubble.

Exactly. Lots of anecdotal evidence of wonderful men in these women’s lives but I don’t think there have been any convincing statistics posted so far that refute the thread title. Would love to see those if they are available though!

These anecdotes are supported by scientific research.

For example: In a study of violent crime in Sweden, they discovered that most violent crime was committed by men. I think that’s undisputed here. Most of those men also had behavioural disorders or substance abuse which was a factor. But the violent crime was committed by only 1% of the population.

So it’s correct to say most violent criminals are male. It’s also correct to say most violent crime is committed by males. It is not correct to say most males are violent criminals.

The 1 % of the population accountable for 63 % of all violent crime convictions

Population-based studies on violent crime and background factors may provide an understanding of the relationships between susceptibility factors and crime. We aimed to determine the distribution of violent crime convictions in the Swedish population ....

If only we could brand them in order to tell who's probably safe and who's definitely not.

I don’t think anyone anywhere has stated that most men are violent criminals…? I don’t dispute what you say above. Sure one of the points in the OP was related to murders of men but I think that is the most extreme end of the spectrum and harm to women comes in many other forms which are often more covert.

The point I’m making is that I haven’t seen any convincing evidence to say that men don’t hate/have contempt for/secretly think they are superior to women. Except on an anecdotal level (ie not my husband/son/father… which is basically the NAMALT argument).

I haven’t seen any in here which proves most men do hate/have contempt for/secretly think they are superior to women either - again most of that is anecdotal. It’s really only violence and crime which is quantifiable as far as I am able to tell.

HelenDamnation1 · 06/03/2024 11:28

Umm didn't you even see the recent reports about surgeons sexually assaulting juniors whilst in the actual operating theatre? Or MPs getting sacked for sexual harassment.

I'm shocked, that this isn't acknowledged, and a bit jealous! What a lovely life!

I’m not sure I agree that there has been no evidence supporting the thread title beyond anecdotes. Lots of stats/news stories have been linked above.

That said, I think you raise a very important point about it being much easier to quantify violence and crime than other ‘milder’ manifestations of hatred/contempt etc towards women. Even then though, I still don’t think this tells us the whole story given the under-reporting of violence against women that we know happens.

The anecdotal evidence is pretty powerful though, isn't it? Women have been describing a lot of experiences that are strongly indicative of contempt, superiority and hatred from multiple men on multiple occasions throughout their lives. On the other side of the argument, we have anecdotes that some women know some men who don't, to the best of their knowledge, do hateful things. Unfortunately, an acceptance that some men don't actively contribute to the problem, and are mere bystanders, with no deliberate negative impact on women, is insufficient to serve as a counter argument. Unless your argument is that some men actively hate women, while most men only stand by and let women suffer from that. In which case, we can agree.

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 06/03/2024 12:37

It looks like you’re interested in anecdotal evidence which supports your position but very dismissive of anecdotal evidence which opposes it. I don’t think we have seen any stats in here which demonstrate that [all] or even [most] men just hate women.

Does this thread only apply to English women?

IncompleteSenten · 06/03/2024 16:28

Apparently so. Not that it matters because those of us who have experienced abuse are nothing but professional victims.
Who needs the patriarchy when other women are kicking out, eh?

That is absolutely true and also bears out my experience and that of the women I know. There are arseholes out there but the some PP have been incredibly disigenuous in trying to link behaviour which they personally find problematic (like porn use) with violent assault and murder. I cannot believe that they are arguing in good faith, more like they have had nasty experiences and cannot bear that other women have not, so have to gaslight other women that 'it could be you' so that we live in fear and hatred. It is really slimy behaviour, I think.

Would you at least be willing that in some countries it appears that men quite hate women even if it’s all rosy in this country? Genuine question.

I would agree that some countries (Iran is the prime example) are extreme theocracies and are several centuries behind the UK. It isn't merely a case of 'men hating women' but women surely get a very raw deal in such countries.

PaperDoIIs · 06/03/2024 17:28

The really sad thing is that on online forums/communities that are male dominated the number of "LovelyTom" type posters defending women on similar threads is extremely small.

But here we have so many women, hand wringing and melting down because someone on the internet was mean about men and somehow that is an insult to "their" men . Can't possibly have that.

DrBlackbird · 06/03/2024 17:39

These is an interesting perspective. So, it’s not men then, but the religious laws that leads to the raw deal for women.

This raises some questions for me. Who sets up theocracies? Who benefits from them? Why are these men imposing not just the religious laws but the extreme punishment of transgressions such as what happened to Mahsa Amini?

Would you agree that at least some of those men (the Taliban or in Iran) seem to hate women going by their actions?
