To think men just hate women?

1000 replies

Justsomethoughts · 29/02/2024 22:03

The more I think about it, the more I conclude that men must despise us. I think the news today about Wayne Couzens has got me pondering… My thoughts as follows:

Ive read so many threads on here about how little men contribute to household work.
Women are expected to do 99% of housework and childcare whilst sucking it up and looking pretty. This percentage doesn’t seem to change much if they also work. God forbid women complain (I refuse to use the word nag, a word only used by men when talking about women!) as they asked for a family and should be grateful they have a husband and children.

We should look visually appealing/maintain our appearance for as long as possible but not too much - that would be ‘asking for it’. If we don’t we will probably be replaced by a younger/more attractive model.

We can’t walk alone at night as we are at risk of harm (by men).

A very large proportion of female homicides are committed by males living with the victim

The list goes on and on. I know these aren’t brand new facts and obviously ‘not all men’ before people come for me but my god it’s so depressing when you think about it.

No what a load of BS. Most men I know don’t hate women.

My sentiments exactly. This site is full of bitter, myopic misandrists.

bombastix · 01/03/2024 23:48

I don't think it's hate exactly - it's more a need of control. That particular need of men to control women seems to be completely consistent except for male and female relationships- with the possible exception of brother and sister, but even then there are explicitly patriarchal societies that mean that is an issue too.

Tbh the greatest thing that ever happened to liberate women was the realization (probably a man) that women are consumers, and that given their own employment, they would consume more. It's money that liberated women.

Why on MN now (I have been on here for 17 years) do we need empirical evidence to back up every post you make. I expressed an opinion at the beginning of this thread and you mocked it. I find the commentators on life that are on podcasts, YouTube, that happen to be Male, that comment on women with contempt quite disturbing. You were very patronising and belittling. I presume you are a man, I think it odd to do this on MN thread that is explicitly about women, my DH in all honesty would never go near MN and most certainly wouldn't comment on this type of thread!

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr is totally a man. How do we know this? Because page after page he’s managed to make this thread completely about him. Doing what men do best. Centring men’s needs. Telling women they’re wrong. @Justsomethoughts going back to your OP yes it is depressing. We’ve evidence of how ignored we are on this very thread. We know the misogyny is sadly getting worse in younger men. The ones we had hope for. I don’t know what the answer is.

PaperDoIIs · 01/03/2024 23:52

@LovelyTheresa you're a special type of smug aren't you?

Then again, I guess it's easier to dismiss women and their experiences as unlucky ,myopic ,misandrists than actually look at statistics, their experiences, their traumas and realise/accept what's there. Because it's fucking terrifying, no matter how good your Nigel is.

justasking111 · 01/03/2024 23:53

A modern phenomenon is that some men seem to think that we're bleeding them dry if we're not contributing at least as much to the financial pot as them. Take time off to have children you're a financial drain. Your children are a financial drain.

Divorce them, we're financial vampires.

Earn more than them alls right with the world. In a perfect world women would pay for everything and their salary would be pocket money.

Of course there's the awkward ones who think if you earn more than them and autonomously enjoy your money you're emasculating them.

Women have been exploited since the beggining of time.

Men have never wanted to be equal.

Would you accept this sort of evo psych babble as a reason for women not to be allowed to do certain things?

What is Evo psych? And where did I say women can't do certain things?

Evo psych is Evolutionary Psychology, and it is very regularly used by misogynists to keep women in their place.

Well. Thanks. The only time I told women they are wrong was when they were, assuming those posters were women.

For example when it was claimed thousands to tens of thousands of men murder for every woman who murders - that was clearly a perception based on prejudice.

I believe the assertion that “[all] men just hate women” is wrong.

I have not disputed that women are prejudiced against by men.

I haven’t made any of this about me at all. In fact I’ve tried to stay completely detached and neutral despite you trying to ask questions about my sex (purely so you can use that information as a dismissive tactic as you did above based on your assumption about my sex).

I acknowledge that some men exert violence on women. I acknowledge that some men exert violence on other men. I acknowledge that women and men are both victims of prejudice. I cannot agree that [all] men are violent or that “[all] men just hate women” which was the original assertion in this discussion.

Meh I'll own up to it. It's not the insult or put down you think it is. I'm still standing, I'm still going.I earned the right to feel sorry for myself every now and then a long time ago , and If I feel like it I'll exercise it.

I earned it as a survivor... of my cousin, of my grandfather, of my classmates , of my fancy shmancy University Professor maths tutor (no matter how middle class he was,he was still a fucking predator) and that's just the worst of it. I've earned it from age 7.

So if I want to feel sorry for myself I will. And if I want to say that someone's son ,father ,husband etc. can be a predator I will. Because they are. Because it happened to me and hundreds of thousands of other girls and women. And it always was someone's son, father, husband etc. I bet the women in their lives would also swear blind "not my Nigel" and that they didn't know any men "like that".

I'm happy you're in a safe little bubble, because I don't wish my(and my others') experiences on anyone, But get off your high horse love.

How have I proved it? You said that if women were in power, life would be peaceful. I said that wasn't true, and it isn't! Just because there have been far more men in power historically than women does not mean that women would run things dramatically differently. I don't think they would. A LOT of women say that they have had awful female bosses who threw them under the bus at any opportunity. I'm not saying that there are advantages to having women in power, but to suggest that it is some kind of panacea is ludicrous.

It's no good, I wouldn't waste your breath. The professional victims are having their little pity party. I suggest that you let them get on with it.

Dude, you have more issues than I do. What's your excuse?

RandomForest · 02/03/2024 00:28

These types of men are the most dangerous, they are too weak against other men so they turn on women.

Frightening.

It is disgusting to demonise an entire group (or 'class' as you insist on describing them) by the actions of a few. I know that people on here are convinced it is the majority, but it isn't. You just want to spook other women into thinking that their men are potenially evil predators. It is posionous, envious, crab-in-a-bucket mentality and I have no sympathy with it whatsoever.

No, it isn't 'proof that men hate women', as it is often used by women as well. See the woman upthread who said that if women ran the world we would all be holding hands and singing kumbaya. It is an outdated and unscientfic line of thinking, but let's not pretend that only men subscribe to it.

Whatifitallgoesright · 02/03/2024 00:35

UN Women UK have appointed two men to represent them at the UN Commission on the Status of Women.

PurpleAxe · 02/03/2024 00:40

sprigatito · 29/02/2024 22:22

The older I get, the more I resent the impact men as a class have on women as a class. The appalling, epidemic level violence is the tip of an enormous iceberg made of contempt, hatred and selfish entitlement.

And at the thin end of the wedge are the "nice" men who feel good about themselves for treating the women in their lives like human beings, while their only contribution to the horrors their sex perpetrates on women is yipping "namalt!" whenever we try to talk about it.

This. But when I stand on the edge and look into the abyss of what this really means for the multitude of interactions I have everyday I don't want to believe it. For the men I love, for the hoys I have raised. I want to pull a blanket over my head and cry.

So I understand why so many women have to deny the reality, because what does it mean if we acknowledge it? How do we function? What do we do?

Whyisegg · 02/03/2024 00:44

Subscribe to what? That men have throughout history tried to control female reproduction? The question was not 'if women ran the world would all problems be solved' it was 'do men hate women'. It is my belief that yes, men do hate women. I don't believe this is natural, but it is the status quo. It's complex and requires far more time and attention than an online forum can ever provide for
