Woke up to deflated tires because I drive an SUV.

Jealous, petty wankers.

Anyone got got this morning?

@ClaudiaWankleman I don't think I ever said it was, dear. Don't make things up. I said OP's SUV was probably unnecessary, and OP hasn't disputed that.

Yes you did! You can’t even remember your own posts

Show me where I said it was unnecessary.

Allfur · 29/02/2024 16:49

Suvs in cities are a bit unnecessary

spanishviola · 29/02/2024 16:57

crackofdoom · 29/02/2024 12:00

Don't you? It looks like the note that they left spelt it out quite well.

But, to reiterate: all recent gains in lowering vehicular CO2 emissions due to the introduction of EV cars have been wipedout by the growing popularity of these wankpanzers.

The sheer weight of them is damaging road infrastructure.

They Don't fit down a lot of roads built hundreds of years ago, and massively add to congestion even when they're driven properly

They don't fit in parking spaces even when the drivers are capable of parking properly

They're massively dangerous to other drivers, and pedestrians. The massive bonnets are at about the height of a primary aged child's head, so they cause way more pedestrian fatalities in collisions. They're not even safer for the occupants, due to an increased tendency to roll.

All of this.

Allfur · 29/02/2024 17:15

Cities often have quite good public transport for getting kids to school

theotherfossilsister · 29/02/2024 17:17

This happened locally to a rural doctor who then wasn't able to see his patients. I'm all for environmentalism but sometimes it's really misguided

theotherfossilsister · 29/02/2024 17:20

And yes, I don't madly like SUVs either, but in understand that those who travel in rural areas need them

Dbank · 29/02/2024 17:24

Another case of people thinking it's okay to ignore the law and democratic process, just because they can't get their way.

SurelySmartie · 29/02/2024 17:24

I don’t like the way the letter implies people should be driving ‘smaller cars’. Larger cars are safer and people are more likely to survive crashes on motorways. I can understand people wanting the safest car they can afford. I’d do the same.

Allfur · 29/02/2024 17:24

Agree, but op lives in a city

Allfur · 29/02/2024 17:25

*agree they are useful in rural areas

tireextinguishers · 29/02/2024 11:51

SUVs are unfairly demonised in my opinion.

I don't know why people have such an issue with them.

You're spot on. They're demonised because people can't understand SUV covers any car nowadays that's a few mm higher than your average and not just range rovers and jeeps.

I have no doubt that my hybrid estate is less energy efficient than your suv. It's a petrol engine (which I think is bad for the environment as much less efficient than a clean EU6 diesel) plus a heavy battery that does a whopping 37 miles by the book but actually less than 20 and takes hours to charge.

Slashing tyres is a massive waste of environmental resource. I don't see how they think this helps.

Larger cars may be safer for the people inside them, but are generally less safe for anyone they happen to collide with, including pedestrians, cyclists and occupants of smaller cars.

Brawcolli · 29/02/2024 17:48

I mean, aye that’s annoying, but I highly doubt it stems from jealousy 🙄

crackofdoom · 29/02/2024 17:53

TotalAbsence apparently pedestrian deaths in road traffic accidents have skyrocketed in the US, after decades of slowly declining. It's down to SUVs 😪

AcridAndStanLee · 29/02/2024 17:55

So these people want us to scrap the already made SUVs and replace them with small cars that don't suit our needs and use additional resource to produce?

All cars are bigger now. The new Polo is the same size as a mk4 golf. That's a whole class size that car has moved up. It's not an suv tho. A golf but higher and a slightly different shape is a t-roc. Are they slashing the tyres of a t-roc but not a golf?

Honestly, these people aren't jealous. They are just ignorant cunts who don't have an understanding of cars and emissions.

tireextinguishers · 29/02/2024 13:27

No normal, balanced person with high self-esteem and self-worth would be roaming around at 4am deflating people tyres.

There's something wrong with them.

Totally agree with you - fucking arseholes..... I'd be absolutely fuming

BrewCake for you x

It just turns into a who's got the biggest car arms race - before you know where you are everyone who can is driving round in a 6 tonne monstrosity and the planet is even more screwed than it is already.

And you are right in the respect that in the case of SUVs for one set of people to become more safe, the rest of the world generally becomes less safe.

Why would a smaller car not 'suit the needs' of a city dweller?

NCgoingdry · 29/02/2024 17:57

If you actually look at the energy and emissions used to make an electric vehicle - it's not actually better for the environment.

Can't remember the exact stat but read a report that said something similar to - you would have to drive it for 100 years to make it worth producing. (Yadada MN hates people without sources bla bla).

It's all smoke and mirrors.

But OP I would be livid too.

This may also be linked to increasing speed limits.

AcridAndStanLee · 29/02/2024 18:05

@Allfur who are you to ask?

Maybe they want to travel in comfort and not be squished. Maybe they have kids and can't carry their pram and shopping in a mini. Maybe they go on a camping trip 4 x a year and can't afford to rent a car for such times.

A small car is not suitable for my family needs and I don't care to explain why.

I wouldn't class a camping trip or shopping en famille as "needs" tbh. Wants and convenience, sure.

AcridAndStanLee · 29/02/2024 18:07

For the record, I donate monthly to greenpeace and protest/support etc. I recycle and ensure everything I do is as environmentally friendly as possible but I cannot excuse these actions.

Allfur · 29/02/2024 18:09

City dwellers do not need suvs
