Men with long fingernails....

Omg just yuck ! Why? It gives me the ick... currently sat on a train next to a very pleasant man by all accounts and then I see his long fingernails ...think like 3mm or so long. Why ?? Is it just me that really gets out off by it ? Cut your nails short ! I can't even explain it....
I'm not talking about guitar players where there's a function or similar. Normal men (this one is definitely going into an office job). Tell me what also icks you ??

Oh and don't get me started on woman that have phones on loud speaker holding it by their ears as if the sounds comes out of the underside of the phone 😆

It looks like she'd had them done professionally and they've grown out and need redoing or removing?? At least that's what I hope it is and not an actual 'thing'.

Also seems weird to not have them redone if she knew she was going to be doing a 'modelling' job?

Having said that and looking at the colours of the nails and the pots - who actually knows!?

Plectrum doesn’t work for certain styles of guitar playing. Nails vs flesh give distinctive sound especially when playing classical guitar. The nail shape and edge play a critical role in tone generation and ease of play.

You said Always thought it was musicians- they need them to pluck. However use a bloody plectrum.

They can't just "use a bloody plectrum". That's not how it works.

Playing classical or Spanish guitar means you actually have to think about the length of your nails. If they're too long it will impact the sound for playing certain pieces. Likewise if too short. They need to be a length that the OP would say "omg just yuk!" at 🙄

I'm another one who hates long fingernails on anyone too. On men - bleugh - but women who have ridiculously long fake nails that mean they can't type or do anything properly with their hands strike me as utterly brainless.

I feel the same way about impractically high heels. They don't give me the ick, but if you can't fucking walk properly then why wear them? I'm all for a pretty pair of shoes, but they need to be at least semi-practical.

As easily as short nails- there is an expanse of flat plastic to clean so it’s very easy to scrub them with soap.

The most difficult bit is the same as for short nails, ie the point where the nail meets the skin where any length of nail will trap dirt (hence the invention of nail brushes).

YANBU. Long nails on men really gives me ick. Even guitar players.

To be fair there are an increasing number of classical guitarists who play with short nails. Check out Brandon Acker.

Long nails and the resulting percussive tone were popularised by Segovia and his students and don’t have a huge amount of historical precedent either in classical or flamenco. Personally I prefer the softer tone of short nails although the decrease in projection is an issue - time classical guitarist got with the times and used some amplification for larger venues.

I'd rather he didn't play an instrument if it meant growing nails. I HATE long finger and toe nails on everyone but on men it's especially revolting.

She needs an infill of her acrylics/gels… odd considering she is being a hand model.

This is so ridiculous. Imagine if a man passed comment on a woman's talent and skill like this.

If someone plays music with prodigious talent (varying preferences aside @coureur) then I'd say you've got your priorities wrong to say you'd rather they chucked their instrument altogether so that the fingernails on one hand are short enough for you.

As I'm assuming you're not married to a classical guitarist, then your problem is solved.

Is it their ears? I know the country. I can think of two where this happens actually. I wondered if it was for nose picking. It certainly gives me the massive heebee jeebees, whatever the reason.

I don't like over-long nails on women either, especially when they go all crusty and yellow underneath their acrylic extensions. You can't see it from the front but I often notice when you see them from the back and it looks minging.

Men who let their nails get to a length where they are visible beyond the end of the fingertip give me the massive creeps. The only thing worse than that is men with long toenails. That surely has to be the sign of a weirdo serial killer.

@Hisnamewaslunchbucket i really don't care for classical guitar or most music. I'd rather dirty nails from graft than long manicured nails for music.
If a man didn't want to be with a gymnast because of the revealing outfit then that is his choice. Gymnastics don't benefit society anyway.

DP has a couple of long nails as he plays the guitar, he also works in an office.

Oh this is making me giggle, reminds me of my ex employer, his was nearly an inch long & dirty yellow! & the guy did not even smoke!
No idea why exactly, he seemed quite proud of them 🤣
