I do, I’m afraid. I think she should be able to come home. She was 15! Have any men been stripped of their citizenship that we know about?

Don't be ridiculous.

It’s entirely accurate and not remotely ridiculous

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/02/2024 19:28

If Bangladesh have decided they don’t want her due to her terrorist activities- understandably, then she is free to apply for citizenship in Syria where she has chosen to spend all of her adult life

Leaving aside the issue of whether Syria would grant this, @Newchapterbeckons, prepare to be told - as with Bangladesh - that she couldn't possibly apply while stuck in a camp

Which is odd, considering that she (or at least her representatives) are able to keep bringing all these appeals

I think she was likely groomed.
I don't understand how girls of 15 who were groomed by gangs of men and were raped are (thankfully) seen as victims of grooming but she at 15 apparently knew exactly what she was doing.
Oh wait, I do understand, she's not white and is Muslim.

The same way 15 year olds who murder are sent to prison and not coddled as victims. They have their punishment. She has hers.

Being 15 doesn't mean you don't have to deal with adult consequences.

Hers is a different punishment because she's a terrorist who threatens national security. But to say she's a victim? Oh give over. You house her then.

fleurneige · 23/02/2024 19:29

There are literally thousands upon thousands of people who are, in principle, allowed a second nationality, all over the UK. All over the world. Many secondos and thirdos who have never visited the country, do not know anyone there, or speak the language. Many in our own families. Entitled to Irish nationality mostly- many who have actually applied and taken it, because of Brexit. Or French, Italian, etc, mostly from Europe.

Like Shemima, who has never been to Bangladesh, does not speak the language, and was born and bred in UK.

The court decision is correct. Also if I ere jailed in Brazil for drug offences the UK state would not pay for getting me out or pay for me to be transported home so I don't see why we should do the same for this criminal Begum - her three children are dead because of her unwise decisions.

Someone asked above if any men who have two citizenships have been stripped of the British one. There are quite a few. One is Jack Letts

It certainly would if you had been 15 and groomed at the time to carry drugs.

phishy · 23/02/2024 19:34

Virginia Giufre was groomed into procuring under age girls for Epstein and people rightfully don’t blame her.

Not surprising that Shamima is not afforded the same mitigation, given she’s not white and blonde like Giufre.

But they’re not sentenced to whole life terms, which is what is being done to Shamima.

Yes I agree we are foolish to continue to allow these stupid, pointless appeals.
It’s not our problem anymore.

She was Bangladeshi until the age of 21.

If she’s stateless, Bangladesh made her stateless.

When did she take on this Bangladeshi citizen?

Knitgoodwoman · 23/02/2024 19:36

Is Virginia a terror threat? Did she show no remorse at the Manchester bombing and beheadings?

That's a good point! But sordid as her participation was, as far as I can tell she never posed a national security risk. She didn't enjoy calling the shots in a terrorist group and help with their killing sprees.

Lorrymum · 23/02/2024 19:37

Who is funding her legal fees?

Cherrysherbet · 23/02/2024 19:38

No sympathy from me. I don’t want her here.
This country is a safer place without her and people like her.

HelloMiss · 23/02/2024 19:38

Lorrymum · 23/02/2024 19:37

We are

Voone · 23/02/2024 19:39

Dweetfidilove · 23/02/2024 19:36

When did she take on this Bangladeshi citizen?

Fairly sure she didn't take it on due to the fact she would have then been deported there and faced the death penalty.....

Awaiting all the comments saying well she still could have had citizenship so she wasn't stateless 🙄....and that she certainly didn't care about all the innocents who faced the death penalty when she ran off to join ISIS........

But Bangladeshi citizenship was never a real option for her and the UK government knew that.

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 23/02/2024 19:39

Dweetfidilove · 23/02/2024 19:36

When did she take on this Bangladeshi citizen?

She was born with it.

Dibilnik · 23/02/2024 19:40

I do think that the MN forum gets stuck in a kind of insipid "be nice" mentality that wants to apply social worker principles to situations where they simply aren't appropriate. The presence of real evil in the world is difficult to come to terms with, for sure, but it really is there.

greengreengrass25 · 23/02/2024 19:41

So we have to fund her legal fees.

Newchapterbeckons · 23/02/2024 19:41

WhatsTheUseOfWorrying · 23/02/2024 19:39

She was born with it.

Yes, it’s automatic to descendents of Bangladeshi heritage.

moomoomoo27 · 23/02/2024 19:41

I'm from the same country as her and there's no way I'd want her in the UK. She's dangerous.

And even if you think she's changed her ways/mind/ideals, someone will hunt her down and manipulate her again to use her for something else because they know she's there and easy to manipulate.

She’s from the UK, as are most people on this thread. Not sure why you think that makes your post more worthy.

Cornettoninja · 23/02/2024 19:43

@Dibilnik i don’t think finding it abhorrent that our system can illegally make a person stateless and absolve their responsibilities is worrying about ‘being kind’.

I’m pretty certain that shamima would immediately face trial and a likely prison sentence if she was ever returned to UK soil.

Newsenmum · 23/02/2024 19:43

Whatever even people think of her - groomed and innocent or evil terrorist (and everything in between) - she’s a British citizen so she should be tried here and dealt with here.
