I do, I’m afraid. I think she should be able to come home. She was 15! Have any men been stripped of their citizenship that we know about?

@phishy / legally one does not offset the other. It is you who think that her skin colour makes a difference. But it is her actions that the law looks at and the risk she presents.

The law and government are not impartial. You only have to look at Suella to see the rot that infests this government and justice system.

IDontHateRainbows · 23/02/2024 15:24

I believe in rehabilitation, especially as she was a child. Besides, she is a british citizen and it's not sure Bangladesh will have her so where is she supposed to spend the rest of her life?

HelloMiss · 23/02/2024 15:24

She can stay where she is

Jowak1 · 23/02/2024 15:24

I feel sorry for the victims of the Manchester Arena bomb which she said were justified!😡

Bramshott · 23/02/2024 15:24

HollyKnight · 23/02/2024 15:01

Right? I'm surprised how many people here are implying they were only one bad influence away from becoming terrorists.

I grew up in Northern Ireland in the 80s surrounded by terrorists (even have then in my own family) yet still managed to know it was wrong.

And your relatives in NI who became terrorists @HollyKnight - have any of them been deprived of their citizenship subsequently?

Zone2NorthLondon · 23/02/2024 15:24

Don’t feel sorry for her,no
i do acknowledge she was a vulnerable person, groomed & radicalised. She is UK citizen she’s one of us. She’s our problem. If she returns to UK she should be incarcerated and not able to access or groom other VP. ms Begum should undergo psychiatric assessment and a deradicalisation programme in prison . She has the potential to be a dangerous influence upon others

Totally irrelevant.

bombastix · 23/02/2024 15:25

@phishy / you get some actual proof of British Israeli nationals doing so and you will have a point. But it is not unlawful for a British citizen to fight for another country unless there is a state of war between Britain and that country. Then that person is a traitor

Jowak1 · 23/02/2024 15:24

She said that?

All these sympathisers would be happy to have her live next door to them then?

phishy · 23/02/2024 15:25

bombastix · 23/02/2024 15:14

Also it's the law. The UK can revoke citizenship on the grounds of national security. If you live here and you are a dual national, it is an effect test of loyalty to the UK. Citizenship is legally not a right here. Some of you are posting as if it is.

But Bangladesh denied her nationality.

So you're talking out of your arse.

MyGooseisTotallyLoose · 23/02/2024 15:25

Lwrenn · 23/02/2024 15:22

Not an opinion, more a question. If she was allowed back in the UK would she ever be allowed of out of prison or would she need strict monitoring forever if she was able to live in the community?

Why would she go to prison? All her supporters constantly say 'there's no EVIDENCE she ever did anything wrong, so how could she be put in prison'?
Odd how they say all this evidence for how she's a victim but nothing else!

Alittlecappuccino · 23/02/2024 15:25

Happyher · 23/02/2024 15:14

I think she should be allowed home but should face prosecution for any crime she’s committed though I’ve yet to be convinced she has committed any. Leaving home and marrying a bad man is not a crime. She was young and stupid. But if she is guilty of an offence she should serve any sentence just the same as anyone else

She knowingly joined a terrorist group and expressed no remorse for the victims of the brutal executions she witnessed.

dogmandu · 23/02/2024 15:25

Our justice system would probably take years, not find enough evidence, she'd be back on the streets

Absolutely. How could we prove to the courts what happened in another country

Zone2NorthLondon · 23/02/2024 15:26

ms begin is not a dual national. She’s a uk citizen

Dery · 23/02/2024 15:26

“I can sympathise with being so young, and being caught up in something which turned out to have terrible consequences. I naturally feel compassion for the loss of her children, and I can empathise with the desperation she must feel at never being allowed back to the UK.

None of this means that what she did was okay. But I don't think that washing our hands of her was the right thing to do, and there is a risk of her becoming a martyr-figure, which might have consequences for other young people. If she is such a danger, perhaps bringing her back to the UK, where she can be questioned, tried and possibly imprisoned, seems like a more sensible but less showy option. This seems more like a politician wanting to make a dramatic gesture than a well-thought-out course of action, based on the best probably outcome.”

This and similar. I despair of the performative, knee-jerk BS that seems to pass for government thinking nowadays. No sophistication in thinking at all. She’s more of a danger to us cast out and alienated than brought here, questioned and imprisoned. And she was groomed here so I feel it’s our responsibility to sort it out.

NotQuiteNorma · 23/02/2024 15:26

I feel sorry for her too..... Ok I'm alright now, what's for tea? 😊

roarrfeckingroar · 23/02/2024 15:26

Nah. Good bit of news for once.

Abhannmor · 23/02/2024 15:27

bombastix · 23/02/2024 15:22

In as much as Israel is a lawful government and not a terrorist organization there is massive legal difference to these actions. Why are you so confused?

It's easy to spot the terrorist : he's the one with the biggest bomb. Brendan Behan.

Having said that Begum was a terrorist too.

bombastix · 23/02/2024 15:27

@phishy - you've just had three court of appeal judges disagree with you so sorry to hear your views on me are so compelling

Cyclebabble · 23/02/2024 15:27

Outliers · 23/02/2024 14:51

She is brown, so it's a lot easier for people to dehumanise her. With her attributes its difficult to imagine her as a daughter, a niece or cousin etc.

YANBU at all.

I am also brown and so are most of my relatives. I would not take away her citizenship but there is understandable concern here which is not related to her skin colour.

@EWAS absolute IMO, no way, she deserved everything she got. The things she said even after she decided going over there was a mistake, are worrying. She doesn’t deserve citizenship it’s too much of a risk. Absolutely nothing to do with her being female either

Here4thechocs · 23/02/2024 15:28

Nope. Not an iota of pity for her and her ilk.

bombastix · 23/02/2024 15:28

@Abhannmor - don't be ridiculous. Your moral view on Israel is not the same as who is a terrorist legally. What bit of law should be upheld or is it just the bits that posters personally like and supports their worldview?

Champers66 · 23/02/2024 15:28

Alittlecappuccino · 23/02/2024 15:25

@Alittlecappuccino exactly. She’s not safe to have here

If she is being made an example of then I hope the message gets through to others who choose to make similar journeys.

You mean other children who are groomed?
