Nursery have given DS cake

i have said I don’t want him having puddings and to have fruit instead. Last week he had cake all week (only just found out on pick up yesterday). They’ve said it was an oversight. Would you be annoyed about this? He’s 12 months.

Eating cake wouldn't bother me in the slightest (it will have virtually no sugar in anyway, like all nursery puddings). I'd be more concerned about their disregard for your wishes. Not a hill I'd choose to die on though.

LittleBearPad · 15/02/2024 21:44

I think he’ll probably be fine.

JacksonLambsEatIvy · 15/02/2024 21:44

It’s just cake.

Hmmwhatyousay · 15/02/2024 21:47

Sorry I know the cake itself isn’t an issue it’s the fact they’ve done it when I specified not to…

I'd let him eat cake...

Comedycook · 15/02/2024 21:48

I wouldn't be annoyed about the cake. I'd be annoyed that they went against your wishes.

JacksonLambsEatIvy · 15/02/2024 21:48

I still wouldn’t be annoyed about it. I think it’s better for the kids to just all eat together and have the same thing. A tiny portion of nursery cake wouldn’t worry me.

FriendlyNeighbourhoodAccountant · 15/02/2024 21:49

I don't know how it works with nurseries but I would assume it's a set menu outside of dietary requirements and allergies?

Akire · 15/02/2024 21:50

Excatly they should have very strict food serving guidelines to double check including parent preference that are not medical. Doesn’t exactly give you a lot of faith in record keeping. Plus what nursery cook is giving babies cake every day? Even if it’s a homemade low sugar version all week is bit much.

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 15/02/2024 21:51

Well, I'd be annoyed as well but you have to pick your battles in life. If he were, for example vegan or gluten free I'd find it to be inexcusable, but it doesn't sound like he is. Let's hope he enjoyed it whilst it lasted....

Slanabhaile · 15/02/2024 21:52

Let him eat cake 🎂

Pumpkinini · 15/02/2024 21:52

Is this your first born? You'll soon start letting go of these little things hon. Nursery cake doesn't have sugar anyway. Also not nice when others are eating cake, making a big fuss and he's looking on. It'll make him want "naughty" things more.

herewegoroundtheblueberrybush · 15/02/2024 21:53

This won't go well OP

toomanycushionshere · 15/02/2024 21:53

I’d be really pissed off too OP. I don’t want to think that the people I trust to look after my child aren’t respecting my wishes or are being sloppy about dietary choices or requirements.

BlindurErBóklausMaður · 15/02/2024 21:53

Can you imagine if every single parent had their own list of requirements?
It's a nursery, not a menu.

10ThousandSpoons · 15/02/2024 21:54

I'd be annoyed they'd ignored your wishes and annoyed it wasn't a one off but it was all week? No one eats cake EVERYDAY. That's so unhealthy.

10ThousandSpoons · 15/02/2024 21:54

Cake absolutely is an issue if its every day for a week

Quite. If you want a personalised service, get a nanny.

PuttingDownRoots · 15/02/2024 21:56

Yes, I would be unhappy they failed to follow dietary requirements. It was "just" cake... but the same oversight could be allergy or religion related for example. Same level as vegetarianism really... parental choice.

BobnLen · 15/02/2024 21:56

Maybe nursery isn't right for your child

Tinkerbyebye · 15/02/2024 21:57

He’s one of many kids they have to look after, he’s not allergic to it, so leave it

poor kid watching everyone else eating a nice piece of cake and mummy says no have fruit

cake isn’t going to kill him

StarlightLime · 15/02/2024 21:57

Do they really have cake every day?

This really, I do understand your preference but you need to find a nursery that aligns with it.

Hmmwhatyousay · 15/02/2024 21:57

I think ‘please don’t give ds cake’ is a pretty straightforward request with 85 quid a day thrown there way.

But maybe I have too high expectations? Let’s all feed our children rubbish and pay for the privilege 👍🏼
