Nursery have given DS cake

i have said I don’t want him having puddings and to have fruit instead. Last week he had cake all week (only just found out on pick up yesterday). They’ve said it was an oversight. Would you be annoyed about this? He’s 12 months.

My sil said no cake to her DD she’s a teen now, absolutely massive with a raging eating disorder

BobnLen · 15/02/2024 21:58

Put your child somewhere else then or get a nanny

And? Are you suggesting the two are linked?

wevegotthepower · 15/02/2024 21:59

Jeez. How precious.

Poor nursery having to accommodate all the worried well handwringers

Worry when they're 15 and taking drugs ffs

Hmmwhatyousay · 15/02/2024 21:59

@Mrspatmoresspoon 😂😂 thank you but we are talking about a one year old here!

Too much fruit isn't good for the teeth

Akire · 15/02/2024 22:00

I’ve worked over 20y with small children. Parents absolutely do pick n choose
especially for small babies. At least third of kids would have a preference to this or that that wasn’t religious or medical. Good practise is to work with parents. You don’t pay fortune and be told tough we are feeding your child what we like once they are in the building. Quality care commission would have a feel day!

thefallen · 15/02/2024 22:00

Nursery cake isn't 'rubbish'.

Foreverexhausted1 · 15/02/2024 22:00

I'd let it go. It's nice for babies to see everyone eating the same as them and learn that foods aren't good/bad so they don't go mad on treats

mynameiscalypso · 15/02/2024 22:00

Have you tasted cake at nursery? DS used to bring it home sometimes when they made it as an activity. It was like eating wallpaper paste.

OdeToBarney · 15/02/2024 22:01

Our nursery does not cater to parental preferences, only to medical and religious reasons. Can you imagine if every kid had a specific (non medical or religious) requirement? Hugo mustn't have too much fruit, Morag can't eat cake, Henry must only have brown bread... it's hard enough for nurseries with the various allergies (and I say this as a parent of a child with cmpa currently doing the milk ladder, having now completed the soy and egg ladders!). Half of DD's class have different allergies!

YABU. If you're this bothered, get a nanny.

Blimey OP 🙄🙄🙄🙄

tillyandmilly · 15/02/2024 22:03

Cake is not rubbish - in fact it can also be healthy - I had avocado and beetroot cake the other day it was scrumptious!😋 🤣

MarieAntoinetteQueenOfFrance · 15/02/2024 22:03

Well, if they don't have bread, they can give him cake!

mitogoshi · 15/02/2024 22:03

To be honest, if I were the nursery I would not have accepted such a request in the first place. Yes for allergies but not for other reasons

Definitely linked in their case. SIL used to treat pud like it was heroin.

manipulatrice · 15/02/2024 22:04

What's your issue with Cake?

TheSnowyOwl · 15/02/2024 22:05

I am surprised they agreed to the request unless there are specific allergies. In my experience nurseries like children to eat the same meals as having something different or missing out can cause a lot of upset for the individual child.

Fruit isn’t very filling, some can be bad for immature teeth, and will often have a higher sugar content than nursery cake which is quite strictly regulated (and tastes horrible).

MrsKintner · 15/02/2024 22:05

It's annoying that they made a mistake.
Sounds like someone hasn't written your preference on the right sheet.
They haven't done it deliberately though and mistakes do happen. No harm has been done.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 15/02/2024 22:05

Maybe nursery isn't having to bow to op. Ours you opt whether you kid has 'pudding' or fruit for dessert. That's it.
If you've opted for fruit and they've gone against it then u wouldn't be happy. It's but the cane per se it the fact it's against your wishes.

I'm also surprised they have offered cane everyday. Ours is quite strict re sugar and healthy foods so cake everyday wouldn't be a thing. Desserts are like muffin, mousse, crumble, jelly, fruit, etc

Notimeforaname · 15/02/2024 22:06

Worked in a nursery for a couple years there were a few parents who also said no to any cake or desserts. Their children would just scream and cry because they didn't have what all the other children had. It felt cruel shoving a plain yogurt or apple at them while they cried watching the rest have biscuits or whatever.

PensionPuzzle · 15/02/2024 22:07

My nursery have got all individual dietary needs, printed with photos of the children as well on the cutlery cupboard in each room. But not dietary preferences as I'm sure they'd run out of room very quickly. The info is there for the times when the room lead/regular staff aren't the ones dishing up meals for whatever reason. There's 20 toddlers in there some days (with correct staff ratio).

Notimeforaname · 15/02/2024 22:08

Also the cakes and biscuits were very low sugar, tasted like shite to be honest but still felt cruel refusing the odd child. They cant understand why.
