to think 30 pairs of jeans is a bit much?

Coffee with a couple of friends today, I have lost a bit of weight recently and was saying that my jeans don't fit me any more, so I was going to buy two new pairs. One friend pipes up "only two?" and I sad that yes, a couple of the not really fitting pairs are fine for round the house, and it's almost summer and that I have leggings, other trousers, dresses etc. And two pairs of jeans is plenty - one to wear, one in the wash.

Friend horrified. She has 30 pairs of jeans (at least) and can't understand why anyone wouldn't want multiples in every colour, every cut, regular jeans, going out jeans, posh jeans, cheap jeans.

Anyone want to admit to more than 30 pairs??

I was going to say that 30 pairs is ridiculous but having counted mine up I guess I have about 20. I’ve got light blue, vintage blue, black, washed black, grey in various styles e.g. skinny, boyfriend, mom, straight, wide legged. So many options!

I’ve got about 8 at the moment, just sold 2 pairs on vinted. I fluctuate in weight went from 20/22 to a size 16 but gradually put a few lbs on so not quite an 18 at the moment but 16 very snug, so I might have 8 pairs but only 2/3 fit me comfortably at the moment.

Before giving up work to be a SAHM I didn’t own more than 1 pair as I very rarely ever wore jeans.

I have five, plus other trousers. Thirty seems excessive.

One thing I will never have unlike the OP is leggings, which are the work of someone with a strange sense of humour.

I have 3 pairs but really only wear my pair of black skinny jeans if I'm being honest.

Boy no one is going to go out and buy 30 pairs in one go are they.

Astounded at these responses. 39 pairs is insane. You can wear a pair a day and not need a wash.

I have three pairs, all the same brand/size in different colours. Blue I wear every day, one in the wash one to wear, black for special occasions (bought for a funeral) or emergency spilt something on my blue pair whilst the others are in the wash.
Have a couple of pairs of Capri length for the summer, so 5 in total I guess.

I have two pairs, they're both very old, and I treasure them because they're perfect for my proportions, which is unusual.

I have 11 that I can wear, 2 too small and 1 maternity I haven't got rid of. The 11 are 3 skinnies, 2 flares, 2 wide, 1 'mom', 1 green, 1 maroon, 1 barrel. I do wear different styles but I've kept them for a while - the oldest are 20 years old. 4 were purchased second hand. Occasionally I throw out a pair when there is an irreparable hole, usually in the crotch.

@Bargello if I find a style to suit me I might stop at 29 pairs all in various colours of course 👍

Good grief. There must be enough clothes in this country to last us all 200 years.

Who was it who said ‘your possessions end up owning you’? I’d be so stressed having to house and think about 30 pairs of jeans. Don’t you just wear the top ones in the drawer over and over? Wow

I live in jeans and have 4 pairs.

I have around 12 pairs of different styles, lengths and colours. It depends upon your lifestyle I guess and budget!

Jesus! Where do these people keep all those jeans? Do they have a room just for clothes? 🤯 I currently have 2 pairs of jeans that fit and 2 pairs of black trousers.

I have about 20 but many date way back to the 90s as I don’t chuck clothes out unless they’re fucked. So glad I hung on to me flairs!!!

I’ve got about 30 pairs. Some are around 15 years old as I’ve stayed the same size and shape (but fashions change and I like fashion).

Definitely got over 100 tops.

All stored in the spare room - which is effectively my dressing room. I built a storage unit of shelves, double height rails, drawers, long dress hanging space etc.

I don't own any jeans (missing the point!) But I do have 3x joggers 3 x leggings 3 x comfy wide leg lounge trousers and 3 X smart trousers. I thought I was an absolute hoarder at that. I also don't know where you store it all if you have so many jeans + work clothes / going out clothes etc.

Also think we should have a thread on cardigans because that's my real issue.

And no I'm not a pensioner I'm 37 😁

Out of interest do you ever go back to the out of style jeans? I've come to the conclusion that I don't do there is no point hanging on to them. There is always a passage of time that passes and do whilst I may have looked great in skinnies in the early 2000s by the time they hit again I won't likely wear them due to age/body shape. Also the waist will be higher or lower than before. They just won't be right. Like current bootlegs. The waist is higher than when they were last in.

I have about 8 pairs don’t see the point in having any more pairs as I wear uniform at work and at the gym a lot so although I wear jeans a lot it’s enough

@tutttutt yep. Recently dug out my 7 For All Mankind flares from 2008. Got 3 pairs, all slightly different and have been wearing them a fair bit. Bought them all in the sale too.

For people who are saying they only have 3 pairs or some other smallish number, how many pairs in total have you owned since you were 18? All styles, all sizes? Perhaps this friend actually has not had an unreasonable number over her lifetime as she has kept them all. If I count all the pairs I've owned, it's probably 30.

I have four pair, and that's really too many. I could easily get by with two. I can't understand why anyone needs 30.

In my 64 years I would not have owned a total of 30 jeans. They last me for years, and I always buy the same style.

I wear jeans once or twice a week I have 2 pairs. DH wears them every day including to work and I think he has 15 ish pairs, different cuts, colours etc some he only wears to work
