to think 30 pairs of jeans is a bit much?

Coffee with a couple of friends today, I have lost a bit of weight recently and was saying that my jeans don't fit me any more, so I was going to buy two new pairs. One friend pipes up "only two?" and I sad that yes, a couple of the not really fitting pairs are fine for round the house, and it's almost summer and that I have leggings, other trousers, dresses etc. And two pairs of jeans is plenty - one to wear, one in the wash.

Friend horrified. She has 30 pairs of jeans (at least) and can't understand why anyone wouldn't want multiples in every colour, every cut, regular jeans, going out jeans, posh jeans, cheap jeans.

Anyone want to admit to more than 30 pairs??

I wonder if attitude to clothes is partly an age thing. I am in my early 50s, when I was a teenager and in my early 20s there was no internet shopping, no Primark, no Shein shite from China, supermarkets did a very basic range only. Clothes were EXPENSIVE. I'm sure I paid £15 in the 90s for a pair of jeans and that's still what the supermarkets are knocking them out for 30 years later. I am not from a particularly impoverished background but we all saved up for clothes and certainly weren't buying new every week.

My friend is slightly younger than me, but only 5 or 6 years. Her house is the same as mine, not tiny but not a mansion, goodness knows where she keeps 30 pairs of jeans.

Wow I live in them but only have 4 pairs - scruffy, white, smart and stonewashed.

I've only got two pairs of jeans but I've got at least 50 pairs of shoes so y'know. Horses for courses.

One of our spare rooms was converted into a walk in wardrobe so I have loads of space to store stuff, I have a set of drawers with jeans.

If you only have 2 pairs then surely they’re in the wash most of the time 🤔

Let's not go down the "how often do you wash your jeans" road @Ithinkitstimeforbed . No they're not always in the wash. Even if you are one of the people who wears a pair of jeans for an afternoon and then washes them, you don't need more than about 5 or 6 pairs.

And if my two pairs of properly fitting jeans are in the wash at the same time (unlikely), I'd just wear something else.

Well, I don’t buy fast fashion. I’m in my thirties and have been the same size since my teens. Some of my dresses are 25 years old. I would say I’ve done pretty well being eco friendly with my clothes. I choose carefully. But maybe a dozen a year, and never from shitty Chinese made companies. So I’m fine having a couple hundred dresses, thanks.

No fair enough, I’m happy to say I have more pairs than I need! But I did a wash with jeans 2 days ago with 3 pairs in, if I only had 2 pairs I’d need a quicker washing turnaround time (also I am going to toddler classes every day sitting on the floor, going to sticky soft plays and getting mud from the park all over my trousers so they definitely needed a wash!)

Must admit, I’m slightly flabbergasted that someone has 30 pairs of everyday jeans (how big is her wardrobe?). Does she wear them one day, and then chuck them in the wash?

Counting up my jeans, I have three blue pairs - dark, lighter, and larger size plus two black pairs that rotate ,(plus another few pairs in the loft which I will loose weight to get back into one day…).

Is she a centipede?

@Bargello yes, I’m a similar age and jeans were always an expensive item of clothing to buy. Looking back, maybe only had a couple of pairs then. Ie. Old pair and newer pair.

I have 4 pairs and feel guilty that I have too many clothes!
But I'm possibly manky and only wash them every 4 or 5 wears. Apart from the light grey ones, I only get 2 days out of those.
Mind blown.

Jesus. I have 4 pairs and 3 of those are too small currently. Wfh and live in jeans and hoodies, wear and wash overnight.

Where the fuck do you gals keep 30 pairs of jeans? I'm in a 3 bed semi, I don't have space for 30 'bottom half' clothing items in my wardrobe!

I probably have around 30 pairs, but that's because I'm constantly trying to diet back into the 28 inch waist Levi's while dejectedly buying another pair of size 22s.

I have 3 pairs I actually wear because even though they fit, being fat they're not that comfy. Plus a tight waistband and sitting down a lot gives me heartburn.

I've got half a dozen pairs but I wear them to their complete deaths, going out at night, then daytime, then dog walking, then decorating and finally rags when they're literally disintegrating.

I only have two pairs and I wear them until they are no longer wearable.

30 is insane and says a lot about over consumption. I have 7. All bought over past 8 years. And I think that is still quite a lot tbh.

I enjoy clothes and I have about 10 pairs of jeans but I only bought 3 pairs new… the rest were thrifted or hand me downs. I used to know the statistic on how many gallons of water it takes to grow enough cotton to make a pair - some huge quantity. I think the amount of consumption nowadays and fast fashion is pretty gross and if I had wardrobes and wardrobes of clothes I wouldn’t be advertising it.

I admit I have loads, but 99% of time only wear jeans, and have different sizes, due to weight loss, if I’m still the same size this summer, big ones can go 😁

The replies have shocked me! I mainly wear jeans but only have 5 pairs, and no two pairs are the same. I have one skinny in blue, one skinny in black, one mum jeans, one wide leg, one straight leg. That's it. I wear them 3-4 times each which equates to 20 days worth of wearing! I also have dresses, joggers and chinos so feel like I have more than enough clothes, those with 30 pairs I would consider hoarders!

I wear jeans almost every day and live somewhere that means I have summer and winter clothes, so I have denim short jeans and heavy weight winter ones. I have about 15 pairs in total. I've also got a huge double closet and wouldn't know where to keep 30 pairs.

Depends if she wears exclusively jeans and tops, 30 is a lot, but not ridiculous. If she wears lots of different things, it's mad. I barely wear jeans and I have two pairs, both bought in 2021 and probably haven't worn them this year.

That IS a lot. I wouldn't even know where to put them all! I have 7 pairs, and I thought that was a lot! They take up so much room in my wardrobe!!! 3 in size 14 for when I am a bit slimmer and 4 pairs in size 16 for now! Different colours. Royal blue, black, denim blue, dark beige, and red!
