To think this is a vote winner (though not election clincher) from Sunak?

Lion400 · 12/02/2024 22:36

Thought this was an impressive and clear response to the question, from Rishi. I suppose Labour will likely win by a landslide, because many people don’t care enough about women’s rights. Because I do care very much about women’s rights, I may vote Conservative for the first time ever (cue outrage for Lion). Will I regret it? Possibly. But I’d regret voting for Labour (aka women’s rights removers), even more.

Wow. Just wow. Unreal.

What? your disregard for the needs of 51% of the population?

IClaudine · 14/02/2024 21:32

Blossomtoes maybe best to get off the thread, 'tis pointless.

lifeturnsonadime · 14/02/2024 21:33

Just take a step back readers.

There are admissions in the last pages of this thread that some Labour voters don't care about the impact on vulnerable women of the Labour position on single sex spaces.

This is an acknowledgement that the Labour Party position on this is that the rights to males to be in those spaces is more important than the safety and dignity of the vulnerable women who need them.

If you are shocked by this and want a compassionate Labour Party that puts the rights of vulnerable women before the wishes of males who identify as women come the next election, drop your Labour candidate an email and say that you think that women's single sex spaces need to be protected in law by better legislation and by clarity that those spaces won't include the 0.01 % of women with a penis that Starmer has referenced.

if you would like more information on this the Sex Matters website is a good resource. https://sex-matters.org/

Sex Matters

We are campaigning to establish that sex matters in rules, laws, policies, language and culture.

A poll earlier showed a shift

Might be a blip though and / or Labour mess

Savanta poll

Can't see the poll, but the blip will be the Rochdale saga, I expect. Labour can afford a blip or two. There will be more along the way.

I must admit I've been guilty of that on this thread too.

I just got so annoyed last night.

This is the poll

LONDON, Feb 14 (Reuters) - Labour's lead over Britain's Conservatives has fallen 7 percentage points to its lowest since June 2023, a Savanta poll showed on Wednesday, after the opposition party scrapped a green spending target and struggled with anti-Semitism allegations.

I don’t think one segment on an outlet will do much, I don’t think many would expect that

But I do welcome clarity from all parties on this so the people who want to know where politicians stand can finally hear it

Yep. Ti's pointless. There's nothing you can say to convince me to be unkind to 51% of the population. Poor TW but who gives a fuck about women is not rhe convincing rhetoric you think it is.

The odds for tomorrow's by elections don't seen to indicate that Sunak's words on Monday = a vote winner.

Tbh, I'm sure you're right. But seemingly gloating about the fact that women can have their rights to safety and privacy trampled over with no risk to Labour's voting chances isn't the edifying look you may think it is.

But don't forget 'TRSOH' and all that.

Women who don't put males first are all bigots yada yada yawn.

This thread is brilliant.

It really spells out the failures in Labours intentions for this issue for those who weren't aware.

lifeturnsonadime · 14/02/2024 21:54

And following on from my last post.

If you are reading this and are disappointed by Labour's position on this and think that women should have single sex spaces alongside all of the other wonderful things the next Labour government will do then please tell them.

If you don't tell them how you feel about this now they will claim that 'no one was interested or talking about it'.

Just drop your candidate an email, you should be able to find their email address on line.

AdamRyan · 14/02/2024 21:56

OK I'm back to partly respond to life
Firstly, a definition of "conspiracy theory" from wikipedia:
A conspiracy theory is an explanation for an event or situation that asserts the existence of a conspiracy by powerful and sinister groups, often political in motivation, when other explanations are more probable.

Suggesting Labour are deliberately obfuscating their position now, so they can get into power, make misgendering a hate crime amd bring in self ID meets the definition of a conspiracy theory. The more probable explanation is they will do what their policy says.

Suggesting the whole civil service, schools and universities have been "institutionally captured" by stonewall and are "pushing transgender ideology" is a conspiracy theory. The more probable explanation is they want to be inclusive, as it has been proven that diversity brings benefits. And they don't want to be sued for discrimination.

Suggesting that women who don't see gender politics as a priority are "harming women" is just offensive hyperbole really.

Think that's more likely to be both Muslim and Jewish voters abandoning the party rather than gender issues tbh. Doubt it will convert to extra conservative votes.

Since nobody has claimed it is gender issues then no need to correct

What won’t convert to extra votes? The poll or gender

AdamRyan · 14/02/2024 21:57

Oh yes they did. Re read Blossoma posts. Lot of hyperbole about how TW will kill themselves if women don't embrace them in the ladies. Total disregard to what people are saying about the harm this does to women. As JKR says, we see you.

lifeturnsonadime · 14/02/2024 22:02

I have not said that I think they are 'deliberately obfuscating their position now, so that they can get into power blah blah blah. ...'

Stop making things up.

I've said they don't care about women's rights to single sex spaces. Which they don't. That is why they won't clarify the law. Women aren't as important to them as the males who claim to be women.

That's not a conspiracy theory, it's fact. If they cared enough about women they could tighten the legislation but they choose not to.

Again, you're putting your spin on it and attributing what you think as fact.
Instead of opinion.
How is it so hard for you to grasp that some just don't think the same?! That we don't think trans people are automatically a danger?!

AdamRyan · 14/02/2024 22:04

izimbra · 14/02/2024 17:35

"Of course there should be protection feom real hate speech but correctly sexed pronouns, saying males shouldn't be in women's spaces and saying TW are not women are not hate speech"

If you were a trans woman and people in your workplace deliberately refused to refer to you by your preferred pronouns or female name, and felt the need to remind you that you were born male, and policed your use of toilets to make sure you didn't use a female single sex space, it would likely drive you into depression/unemployment and possibly suicide. Because it would feel - and would be - bullying. Posters here might not feel it's hate speech, but it would be experienced as such by those on the receiving end, for whom its purpose would be clear - to invalidate their sense of themselves. It would make a trans person's life unbearable, which I suspect is what many people on this thread would like: for trans women to be bullied, shamed and badgered into non-existence.

I'm wondering - the people on this thread who would refuse to treat trans friends, colleagues, children, relatives, as they would want to be treated, on a point of principle, because it's more important to them to be factually 'correct' about sex and gender than to be accepting or compassionate - is this the case? Is this how you would behave towards trans people if you worked or studied alongside a trans person?

This one? That's not blossom. Maybe you need to calm down and apologise
