DH gave DD chips and crisps! AIBU?

DH took our DD out today at around 2pm. DD had lunch at 12.00. A sandwich and some fruit. Whilst out, DH bought DD some crisps before swimming and then a portion of chips after (at about 5pm). After this, they were going to an event which was supposed to have food for the kids but unfortunately, it had run out by the time they arrived. DD told DH she was hungry and the only thing you could buy there was crips, so DH bought her a pack to tide her over. DH gave DD a decent meal when she got home just after 8.

DD is 7 and in my opinion, going 8 hours whilst out and about and on the go, and having 2 packets of crisps and a portion of chips is not okay. I said to DH that he should have left the event when he realised they had no meal for her and got her something decent and then they could have returned. Or alternatively, he should have told me when we spoke on the phone as I’d have come and collected her and given her dinner.

DH thinks I am being completely overboard. He says he knows it wasn’t ideal but that she was fine and had a good meal when she got home.

Am I being OTT with this? Happy to be told I’m wrong if that’s the case.

Good you’ve taken the responses on board OP, but I hope you’ve apologised now.

zingally · 11/02/2024 11:18

It was a one-off. Not a big deal.

I’m going through quite a difficult time right now and I’ve been trying to keep a lid on everything. I’ve directed all my emotions at this rather than my real problem, I think. Sorry for wasting everyone’s time with something that is obviously really stupid.

It was not a wasted post if it helped you figure this out. If your husband is not the issue but you are able to figure out what is, then be aware of distributing the stress unnecessarily - ask your husband for support with the problems you are dealing with rather than inviting him into conflict over something that is not a real problem. I am sorry you are going through a tough time.

Hope you're okay op after the last update.

Shame there's so many posters that only have the stamina to read one or two posts from an op.

Hope your feeling ok OP x
Always think being a mum is incredibly hard & learning to relinquish control is painful x Don’t beat yourself up you clearly care very much x your DD is lucky to have you x

I thought the same.

She updated on page 4, was open to people saying she was unreasonable and shared that there's other issues going on and there's 5 more pages of kicking going on.
😐

Stop projecting your weird issues with food onto your child......it's damaging.

So, sometimes, is not RTFT

There's a real person on the other end of your reply

Hope it’s sorted OP.

Call the cops then a solicitor. Get him arrested then divorce him. It's the only logical thing to do.

lieselotte · 11/02/2024 17:12

Chips and crisps sounds good to me. I had a longish train journey yesterday and had a bag of crisps on the train (Smiths Square crisps salt n vinegar) and then fish and chips when I got home! Although I don't have salt or vinegar on fish and chips, I eat them as they come.

I like chip butties too.

lieselotte · 11/02/2024 17:13

I remember one of my friends at school having a baked potato and chips for lunch one day.

You need to give your head a wobble FFS. It's not like he gave her kebab and lager.

Phoenix23 · 12/02/2024 20:56

Seriously?!! 😂😂

BooandPopsmomma · 12/02/2024 20:56

Yes, way OTT. Goodness me, poor husband if this is what counts as awful for you. I mean your idea of either him or you taking her for a decent meal then (him) back to the event....would the event even still be on after that length of time. My goodness, let your child live a bit. Crisps and chips followed by a dinner once home....the shock...... the horror....seriously you need to lighten up OP!!!

celticprincess · 12/02/2024 20:58

These things happen. We’ve all been there and done similar, just many won’t admit it. My ex mother in law only seems to feed the kids crisps and chocolate. I picked them up from ex’s house and he told me that there’d been an issue with DD’s behaviour and that she kicked off and had a bit of a meltdown when she wasn’t allowed her 6th packet of crisps!! I nearly died. In my house it’s one pack max in a day usually and the fact she was allowed a second, third, fourth and fifth meant she had already had her expectations from the norm changed. I could have kicked off with them but I chalked it down to experience and explained to the kids they shouldn’t be eating that many crisps and not to ask for more or expect more in future. I could always tell when they’d been to their other grandparent’s whilst with their dad as the bathroom would be stinkier than usual on their return 😂😂😂. But it’s not every week as they live a few hours away so it wasn’t a hill I wanted to die on.

Are you joking? I can’t tell 🤔
If you’re serious, then yes, obviously you’re being unreasonable! What else has the unimaginable bastard done? Jeeeeeeez! 🤯🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

vincettenoir · 12/02/2024 21:04

It's hard to eat well on the go. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Toadstool1985 · 12/02/2024 21:12

Rtft 🙄

Mummasals · 12/02/2024 21:23

While on the face of it I’d agree you’re being OTT, I completely get that when you make so much effort to make sure that your kids eat well its really frustrating to see them fed really poor options by your DH. But the positive that you can take from it is that because you maintain a good balanced diet for your daughter, you can afford for her to have these not so great days.

it’s also super easy for these things to consume you when your head isn’t in its best place and it sounds like you’re having a rough time. Go easy on yourself ❤️

Takenobull · 13/02/2024 07:26

WonderWanderer · 10/02/2024 20:53

Also, my husband was with his mates at the event and my concern is that he was more worried about hanging out with them than sorting her a meal.

I suspect this is more your issue rather than your child not eating properly.

Don’t be that wife OP or that mother on that note.

You sound really highly strung in all honesty and no one benefits from that.

Your husband is allowed to enjoy himself and your daughter allowed to be bored every once in a while- in fact boredom for children is a life skill and encourages creativity in their brains.

Your DD most definitely wasn’t starving and it sounds to me like she has totally manipulated the situation as soon as she’s picked up on your vibe when they got home!!
