DH gave DD chips and crisps! AIBU?

DH took our DD out today at around 2pm. DD had lunch at 12.00. A sandwich and some fruit. Whilst out, DH bought DD some crisps before swimming and then a portion of chips after (at about 5pm). After this, they were going to an event which was supposed to have food for the kids but unfortunately, it had run out by the time they arrived. DD told DH she was hungry and the only thing you could buy there was crips, so DH bought her a pack to tide her over. DH gave DD a decent meal when she got home just after 8.

DD is 7 and in my opinion, going 8 hours whilst out and about and on the go, and having 2 packets of crisps and a portion of chips is not okay. I said to DH that he should have left the event when he realised they had no meal for her and got her something decent and then they could have returned. Or alternatively, he should have told me when we spoke on the phone as I’d have come and collected her and given her dinner.

DH thinks I am being completely overboard. He says he knows it wasn’t ideal but that she was fine and had a good meal when she got home.

Am I being OTT with this? Happy to be told I’m wrong if that’s the case.

Is this more about him being out with his mates?

KnickerlessParsons · 10/02/2024 21:42

DH is right. It was a fun day out. One day. Who cares about vitamins on a fun day out?!

Loub55 · 10/02/2024 21:53

I thought you were going to say she was 2 years old or something!

I'd let it lie OP, not ideal but ok on a rare occasion!
I think my 6 yo would have loved that tbf 😁 maybe she said she was starving as its out of her usual eating routine, but doesn't sound like with that food she should have been that hungry really

FatPrincess · 10/02/2024 22:19

I'd have been loving this as a kid!

Bugbeau · 10/02/2024 22:23

My daughter who is the same age had a similar day today. I was out and she went to a friends party where I think she had pizza and then to the rugby club with my husband where she had nuggets and chips (and probably ate all her party bag sweets and had a couple of J2Os. Not ideal but she usually eats pretty healthily. She had a fab time playing with the other kids at the rugby club and I’m sure my husband was also having a great time with his friends. I really wouldn’t worry about it.

But I’m happy to be told that my judgement is way off on this.

your judgement is way off on this.

Jook · 10/02/2024 22:28

I was a 70s kid and back then sometimes tea was a packet of salt and vinegar and a warm bottle of coke in a pub garden! She’ll be fine, don’t worry. As you’ve recognised, your other issues are clouding your perspective. Might be worth acknowledging this to your DH too.

maddiemookins16mum · 10/02/2024 22:29

Give over. She hasn’t starved to death in one afternoon.

AKAsomeoneelse · 10/02/2024 22:35

Jeez, she was fed and happy and it was a one off! YABU.

Oaktree55 · 10/02/2024 22:37

Wow you’re insane this has to be a joke?

Noseybookworm · 10/02/2024 22:37

You're making a drama out of nothing. It's just one day! As long as she eats healthily most of the time, the crisps and chips aren't going to do her any harm.

Toottooot · 10/02/2024 22:38

Wooptie fucking ping. Nae a big deal min.

AKAsomeoneelse · 10/02/2024 22:40

@WonderWanderer - just read your last post and sorry for piling on the YABU. Hope you are ok.

Could Be Worse Let It Go GIF

To paraphrase Mr Chow from the Hangover II…. A complete non issue OP!

BronwenTheBrave · 10/02/2024 22:45

So many red flags here. Time to get your finances in order and plan to ditch this waste of space. You deserve so much better than this.

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 10/02/2024 22:46

Stop projecting your weird issues with food onto your child......it's damaging.

Why weren't you embracing the peace and quiet instead of micro managing your dd's other parent?

This!

SweetBirdsong · 10/02/2024 22:48

OMG what a demon he sounds! 😆

.

TheLambtonWorm · 10/02/2024 22:48

Your daughter is old enough to say she was too hungry and wanted to go home. Did she? Or was she enjoying herself and wanted to stay despite being hungry?

I'm glad you're realising your anger is misplaced but I hope you apologise to your husband, and have a good talk with him, getting this stuff off your chest and being cathartic.

IloveAslan · 10/02/2024 22:49

Oh do get a grip!!

Bryonny84 · 10/02/2024 22:50

Chips are actually quite nice - don't see the problem 😀

Pallisers · 10/02/2024 22:50

WonderWanderer · 10/02/2024 21:14

Thank you @Toadstool1985. My other issue is nothing to do with DH. It’s health related and I can’t do anything about it so I think I’m just not in a great head space right now and being totally unreasonable. Posting here was helpful to know I am BU, but also hard to read some of the more insulting replies. But I suppose that comes with the topic I chose to post in.

I hope everything works out for you. wishing you all the best.

ThinWomansBrain · 10/02/2024 22:52

well if the crisps were cheese and onion, and she had ketchup with the chips😂, that's two of her five a day🍅

pitsoffashion · 10/02/2024 22:53

Seriously chill out, you’ll probably find life a lot easier if you don’t stress about ridiculous little things

I do struggle with posts like this. Parenting is hard enough if you're sensible. If you're not sensible , as your post would suggest, it must be utterly horrendous. Why make problems where none exist? Why stress over absolutely nothing when there are plenty of other things to stress about. ? Where do you find the energy to worry about stuff like this?

Yep, first thing I thought on reading the OP is how the hell does anyone have the energy for this?!
