Threatening Amazon email?

Atlasstars1 · 07/02/2024 15:22

I’ve been a loyal Amazon customer for years. Over the last 6 months I’ve had to report a number of missing parcels
as they keep being left on my doorstep which is on a the main road and not a safe place. Most parcels just get lifted round here as there are a lot of opportunistic thefts. I’ve updated Amazon on this so many times asking them to ensure they are not left on my
doorstep, but it still happens.
Following the latest missing parcel I received this today which reads as pretty threatening and as though I’m at fault? What should I reply? If anything? Or am I being unreasonable and just ignore?

Leave a note on your door. That email is not threatening they probably think you’re lying!

JaneLawrence · 07/02/2024 19:38

Is there not the option for you to pick up your Amazon parcels from a local shop or a locker?

Every time I order something on Amazon it tells me that there’s free pickup available near my house, there’s a selection of local shops and lockers to pick from.

I get that it’s not as convenient as having stuff delivered to your home, but if it’s got to the point that Amazon are suggesting that they may stop letting you buy stuff from them, then maybe it’s worth using a pickup point?

xyz111 · 07/02/2024 19:40

There's probably loads of people that say they haven't received their parcel, so they have to have something in place. You can get Amazon parcels delivered to other places (even the post office I discovered the other day!).

DragonFly98 · 07/02/2024 19:26

It was implied, but you missed the point that a burglar can make up an excuse to knock on your door.

I didn't 'miss the point'. I was referring to opportunistic thefts of parcels from doorsteps, the point the op is making; not burglars.

determinedtomakethiswork · 07/02/2024 19:41

Don't they deliver to your local supermarket or corner shop?

PeggySooo · 07/02/2024 19:42

There's so many amazon lockers around, I'd look into collecting.

Notsureaboutusername · 07/02/2024 19:42

Can you get your deliveries sent to an Amazon Locker & then go & pick it up?

xyz111 · 07/02/2024 19:42

The letter says to contact them, so explain that the driver is ignoring your safe place option. It's literally not a big deal.

Sunshineandcauliflowercheese · 07/02/2024 19:42

I had exactly the same email a few weeks ago for the same circumstances.

I have made it SO clear to them SO many times that they need to either hand it directly to someone who lives at my address or leave it with a specific neighbour - we live in a block of flats with halfway homes in them for people coming out from prison. Yet I constantly get them left on the doorstep of the building (on a busy road by a school so hundreds of people walking past) or outside my front door where they still aren’t safe.

Atlasstars1 · 07/02/2024 15:49

No not in my area sadly - would be great though!

I find this very hard to believe to be honest. You say you are in a city. I am in a very small town and I have 2 Amazon lockers available to me here - and several more within a 10 minute drive from here

cancandt123 · 07/02/2024 19:48

Just to say nearly every delivery driver in my area knocks and runs. They don't wait to see if you are in. It's fine for me as I live on a very quiet road but I can see how things would get stolen.

PeggySooo · 07/02/2024 19:51

What city doesn't have a locker? My town has several.

martinisforeveryone · 07/02/2024 19:55

daffodilandtulip · 07/02/2024 17:55

I'm so sick of delivery drivers just dumping things on the doorstep. I'm in most of the time, they don't knock and things have been taken before I've even had the message to say it's on my doorstep, even while I'm in.

Exactly the same here. We WFH and are in 99% of the time. I mainly know a parcel's arrived when I get an email, apart from the excellent Evri courier who always knocks and if I don't get there quick sharp puts the parcel out of sight of the road. You hardly ever see Evri praised, so I think they're a rarity.

We have a big open porch with side returns so anything left behind them is secluded, but nearly every other courier puts things in full view of the street right in front of the door. Bonkers.

FutureDays · 07/02/2024 19:55

our Amazon delivery drivers are a nightmare they totally ignore the specified delivery location and all the extra notes, our doorstep is right beside the pavement so it is easy for someone to grab anything as they walk past,

the delivery notes have been updated by us and Amazon customer services many times and it still keeps happening, luckily none of our Amazon deliveries have been taken yet because I am usually in but the drivers don’t even ring the bell now, if you’re lucky they tap the door lightly and are already driving down the road 10 seconds later,
annoyingly they claim it has been handed to the resident or delivered to the safe location and half the time include a picture of our front doorstep

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 07/02/2024 17:27

Also 9/10 now I find Amazon don't even bother knocking now and instead just default to dumping on doorsteps so no wonder stuff gets nicked. Appreciate the drivers are probably hugely up against it target wise but at the same time it's not the customers fault either

This. One driver doesn't even bother walking up the path, she goes down the alley beside my front garden and throws the parcel over the fence, across my neighbours doorstep and on to mine. Nothing has been broken so I haven't complained but I did have to smile when she trod in dogs mess someone had left in the alley - if she hadn't been so lazy it wouldn't have happened.

I’d love you to pay for my stolen goods- sadly you aren’t!

Amazon make a profit. They 'offer free replacements' for missing parcels out of their profits.

If you buy from amazon -a tiny amount of every order will go to 'missing things'..

So YES I do pay for your missing things!

ThereIbledit · 07/02/2024 20:04

Mountainhowl · 07/02/2024 19:30

@Atlasstars1 have you tried taping a note to your actual door? 'AMAZON/COURIERS - do NOT leave items on doorstep, leave with neighbour at #xx'

They are in a rush, im not a delivery driver so don't know but maybe the safe place isn't immediately viewable on the delivery details? A note on the door would grab their attention and I've never had a note be ignored

Or invest in one of these Parcel security box

THIS.

A large print simple as you can word it sign laminated and fixed to your door fixes a lot of it.

A secure parcel box - again, LARGE PRINT clearly labelled to leave parcels in there, is also your friend.

The drivers get paid a pittance per parcel, and I think maybe even penalised for returning to depot with parcels they can't deliver, and many don't speak English, so it's in your own best interests to make it as easy and obvious as you can for them to do the right thing.

I'm sorry, I meant to people other than the delivery person........thought that was implied.

It was implied...and obvious to anyone with half a brain.

Fml, there's some dumbass posters on this thread.

Eightfour · 07/02/2024 20:08

Not sure why you have an issue with snackatack OP, what they are saying is correct.

You seem very much a “it’s the principle of the thing” type of person. Tedious but by all means keep arguing with Amazon and get your account blocked. Or maybe just accept that if you want to keep buying from them you will need to accept it’s crap, be pragmatic and use a bloody locker!!

TheLambtonWorm · 07/02/2024 20:11

So have you responded to Amazon to clarify your position as requested? Or are you getting all get up over this without having engaged with them?

Of course it’s the principle of the thing!
They’re at fault, I’m out of pocket as haven’t received the goods I’ve paid for, I followed their instructions to enter a safe place to leave my parcels - yet they’re threatening to close my account?!
Why should I passively accept "it’s a bit crap" I’m not going
to accept a loss when i have paid for goods not receiver and followed all their instructions for safe delivery!

Spyral · 07/02/2024 20:13

Omg, OP @Atlasstars1 , I cannot believe some of the idiotic responses you're getting here...suggesting it's not Amazon's fault that you've messed up and the likes, jfc!

Clearly you have done what you can, as far as what Amazon offer, to inform them of a safe delivery place if you are not in. The problem here is definitely with the delivery drivers and that's who Amazon should be dealing with to sort out the issue.

DragonGypsyDoris · 07/02/2024 20:14

If you live in a dodgy area, have your parcels delivered to a pickup point or a locker. Why isn't anything your fault? You keep ordering knowing that the parcels are at risk of theft.

But they’ve refunded you? How are you out of pocket?

They are also not a public service, as long as it’s not illegal they can act as crappy as they like and close your account for any reason. There is nothing you can do. So yes you do need to accept that it’s a bit crap.
