Taylor Swift tickets

WonderWoman17 · 07/02/2024 09:09

I realise this will be frowned upon by a lot of people but hear me out. I'm lucky enough to have been able to buy 4 very decent tickets to see Taylor Swift in August this year in London. I'm a big fan, the plan was to go with family, although the 'kids' are grown they enjoy her music and are happy to come along for the experience more than being fans.

The dilemma I have is that tickets are so rare and the tour seems to be such a phenomenon that people are willing to pay an extortionate amount for them. As a family that are struggling with cost of living and have a bit of debt, I find myself in the position on considering whether to advertise these tickets for way above what I paid for them (£190 a ticket). I have seen them advertised for as much as over £2k a ticket, and I find myself thinking if there is a parent out there that has the funds/means and motivation to want to pay £8k for these tickets, would I be an idiot for not selling them?

Yes, you would.

Doseofreality · 07/02/2024 09:11

Tory behaviour that.

Needahug72 · 07/02/2024 09:13

And this is exactly why it was so difficult to get these tickets in the first place - genuine fans would not consider doing this.
sell them by all means but at face value

Littlebitpsycho · 07/02/2024 09:13

The tickets are worth whatever someone is willing to pay 🤷‍♀️ if you're struggling and someone wants your tickets and can afford to buy them then why not?

I don't think there's anything wrong with it - nobody's forcing someone to buy them

YeahIsaidit · 07/02/2024 09:17

Don't be that dick. People who buy tickets to sell on at a much inflated price are assholes who ruin the whole gig culture for people

YeahIsaidit · 07/02/2024 09:18

Also, if you're struggling and in debt why did you spend £800 on Taylor swift tickets in the first place?

Emmacb82 · 07/02/2024 09:23

From what I can tell, getting tickets in the first place was a mammoth task in itself so why would you go to all that effort and expense and then decide to sell them on for a huge profit? Do you realise that the person that will end up buying them off you will be some poor parent who is so desperate to get hold of some for their child that they are willing to get into debt for it? Does that make you feel good? The reason why genuine fans are priced out now is because of all the sellers who just want to make money fast. It’s become a very greedy business.

Exactly!

Probably to rip other genuine fans off.

This.

I wish they made tickets only usable by the person buying. If unable to use then make it that have to sell back to organisation again. You basically are a ticket tout. Its also a taxable profit.

Genuine music fans struggle to get tickets due to people buying tickets to profiteer.

AllAboardTootToot · 07/02/2024 09:25

absolute dickhead behaviour!

Exactly this. Do as you please, OP, if the price is too high, no one is forced to buy the tickets.

minipie · 07/02/2024 09:30

I’m going to go against the crowd and say YANBU

You didn’t buy the tickets with this in mind, so you are not a tout or scalper

There are people out there who are genuine fans but not organised enough to get on the list/ lucky enough to get a code

Some of them will be able to spend the £8k without debt (I know families like this). If someone decides to get into debt to buy them at £8k that is their poor decision and not on you

I agree with PP that reselling should probably be banned, but it currently isn’t banned

In your shoes I would sell them. But spend the money on clearing debt and not on other things you can’t afford!

ToRecordOnlyWater · 07/02/2024 09:30

I understand the temptation (I’ve had records that became scarce over the years that I have sold on to help fund a new baby and gotten more than I initially paid), so I know I’m a bit hypocritical to say it but I really wouldn’t. As an avid gig goer nothing is quite as disheartening as something selling out only to see hundreds of those same tickets on Viagogo at extortionate prices. All you’d be doing is ripping off someone buying for their kid/teen who is probably gutted they missed out, or someone desperate to go who probably couldn’t afford the price you’d be asking and get themselves into debt for the sake of being there. I really wouldn’t, it’s crappy scalper behaviour.

Dinoswearunderpants · 07/02/2024 09:32

Go for it. It's all supple and demand. Just make sure you don't get ripped off when selling them.

If you're honestly not fussed about going, I'd sell them for sure.

3luckystars · 07/02/2024 09:32

Can you sell two and keep two (if you are a fan)
If not a fan then I would sell them too, but not for that amount!

Whats going on in the world that people are spending this much on an event. You shouldn’t have really bought them if not a fan as the madness just escalates.

viridiano · 07/02/2024 09:33

YABU. You bought the tickets because you wanted to go to the gig, so go.

Selling them at an inflated price is just ticket touting, mercenary, greedy behaviour which spoils the experience for everyone.

see below from the Ticketmaster Eras Tour FAQ. It could be very unwise to sell on an unapproved secondhand market.

How Can I Resell My Tickets?

Ticketholders are able to resell their tickets via the official resale facilities provided by the official ticket agents, being Ticketmaster and AXS in the UK.

Ticketholders can resell any or all of their tickets, including the lead booker ticket.

Through the official resale facilities, ticket resale prices are capped to help combat the inflation of ticket prices and put a stop to ticket touting and bots.

Purchasing tickets via the official resale facilities also ensures that the ticket you are purchasing is genuine. As set out in the terms and conditions of sale, any tickets found to be purchased via resale on the non-official secondary market will not be valid for entry into the concerts and will be cancelled. Therefore, we strongly advise that you sell and purchase your tickets via the official ticket agents.

minipie · 07/02/2024 09:46

Yes I had read that there were strict restrictions on Eras resale. Do be careful OP

Username917778 · 07/02/2024 09:55

If you need the money just sell them for what you bought them for.

Est1990 · 07/02/2024 09:58

I feel struggling with cost of living and buying 4 tickets for TS in the same sentence doesn't match.

Saying that some will say you are greedy some will say it's a great investment. It's not housing or food you are (potentially) making profit on. It's a show and I would have thought that who really can't afford won't be buying it as they would prioritise food, heating and a roof.

Be aware as with all investments you might not have the return you expect (like selling on Stubhub and in the end the seller claims they couldn't use them)

If you would rather have the money back then sell them via the ticket site resale process as presumably your bought them via Ticketmaster or AXS. Your tickets will be mobile tickets via an App and would be difficult to sell on anyway. If you sell privately then the tickets will be invalid and the person who buys them will possibly not be able to get in to the concert. The system has been set up to stop this very thing and it works - I've seen people turned away because they bought private resale tickets. AXS and Ticketmaster are starting to use new style QR codes which only go live an hour before the event and change constantly until the ticket is scanned - these can not be sold on and if you try to transfer YOU still have to be present as the original ticket purchaser.
Your tickets will sell via the official ticket resale process and you will get the money on the day of the concert.
There are a lot of kids out there who want to see Taylor so use the official resale process and don't be a dick

MamPadi · 07/02/2024 10:18

Could you sell 2 and keep the other 2 for yourself and one other person? Or even sell 3 and go yourself if you're the only one who's the big fan?
