Taylor Swift tickets

WonderWoman17 · 07/02/2024 09:09

I realise this will be frowned upon by a lot of people but hear me out. I'm lucky enough to have been able to buy 4 very decent tickets to see Taylor Swift in August this year in London. I'm a big fan, the plan was to go with family, although the 'kids' are grown they enjoy her music and are happy to come along for the experience more than being fans.

The dilemma I have is that tickets are so rare and the tour seems to be such a phenomenon that people are willing to pay an extortionate amount for them. As a family that are struggling with cost of living and have a bit of debt, I find myself in the position on considering whether to advertise these tickets for way above what I paid for them (£190 a ticket). I have seen them advertised for as much as over £2k a ticket, and I find myself thinking if there is a parent out there that has the funds/means and motivation to want to pay £8k for these tickets, would I be an idiot for not selling them?

Definitely sell them.
I'm pretty sure the TS bubble will burst soon and everyone will realise there isn't any substance there and so many other amazing female artists that should be supported instead.

Weird comment. Why do we have to pick and choose? Can't we support ALL?

Doseofreality · 07/02/2024 09:11

Tory behaviour that.

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 This.

Op, what you're suggesting is to take advantage. In my personal opinion, that's a just a legal form of scamming and I know most won’t agree but I really think it's morally wrong on so many levels.

Stopandlook · 07/02/2024 13:44

I sweated blood to get my tickets, due to unnecessary demand from people like you who aren’t even bothered. I hope you do sell them - more genuine fans in the stadium, albeit rich ones.

Supernova23 · 07/02/2024 14:01

You aren’t exactly on the bare bones of your arse if you splashed £800 on Taylor Swift tickets. Just go rather than rip off people that couldn’t get them.

LibbyL92 · 07/02/2024 14:04

Ripping someone off like that is crap behaviour.

if you want money, sell them for what you paid and miss out. Don’t use this as an excuse to con people who are desperate to see her.

I really despise people who do this.

kitsuneghost · 07/02/2024 14:12

I absolutely agree. It makes very good business sense
even supermarkets sell for more than they pay
If you really aren't that bothered put them up and see what you can get.

If some daft twat pays 8K for them then good for you.
(PS it would be them buying inflating prices and propping up touts that are immoral not the people that spot an opportunity)

Goalandgate · 07/02/2024 14:16

I think it's difficult to sell them on now. I am DESPERATE to get some for DD but it's impossible & the way the sites are set up you need to send them to the other person via email so it's risky! I'd never pay for tickets before I had them & nobody would email them over before you pay so it's a catch 22! But do what you need to do, priorities change &, if you can use the money better & someone wants to pay what you're asking for them then that's fine.

WonderWoman17 · 07/02/2024 14:18

I think there’s a lot of heightened language, which I was expecting, however to be clear I’m not planning on ‘conning’ anyone. There are a multitude of scammers out there ‘selling’ fake tickets and taking money under false pretences, they are the ones conning people.

I was in the position to buy tickets as I got presale codes from purchases that pre-dated the TS hype. I appreciate some people struggled to get tickets and some were unlucky, but I wasn’t able to just get them on a whim, I didn’t buy them considering selling them. I know some people bought multiple tickets to multiple venues and are now selling them for profit. I did not. I’ve been a fan for years and I have seen her before.

My thoughts were in consideration of people that would be happy to pay a large fee for tickets, that are comfortably able to do so and are actively looking. You can call it a ‘rip off’ but if they are able to and want to, would it be foolish to not consider it.

If people are stupid enough to pay silly money to see this manufactured rubbish then so be it. Just make sure that they do pay you and you don't end up being somehow scammed.

itsnotabouthepasta · 07/02/2024 14:22

If you have the tickets and you need the money, then by all means sell them.

But sell them for face value. Don't be a fucking dick and try and rip people off. At least sell through the official resale channels to guarantee that the poor person who buys them from you isn't ripped off and turned away at the gate.

I've got 3 tickets, and paid £192 each - but all three of us are HUGE swifties, so can fully believe it will be worth the money. Its a 3hr show - those ticket prices were comparable to a west end show these days.

As for the person who says that TS isn't any "substance" what more does she have to prove? She's been around since 2006 - so 18 years now. She's recorded entire albums herself with no co-writers. Shes achieved critical and commercial success and she's able to make people relate to her lyrics in so many different ways. The impact of her tours on the economy everywhere she goes is insane.

Do I think she's over exposed right now? Yeah. But equally, I don't actually see her do anything other than touring and supporting her boyfriend when he plays football, so I don't think she should be forced to hide away like she did when Kim/Kanye bullied her.

beguilingeyes · 07/02/2024 14:35

Can I have them? I bloody love her and can't get a sniff of a ticket. I'll pay you face value plus maybe 10%?

"If people are stupid enough to pay silly money to see this manufactured rubbish then so be it. "

Tosh. What's manufactured about her? She writes all her own songs and sings live unlike a lot of people now (eg Madonna) and is incredibly prolific. She put out two albums during lockdown, one last year, there's one coming in April and while doing this she's re-recorded her first six albums to get the rights back from some scumbag.

I'm 62 and have seen pretty much everybody. My first concert was Queen and i was at Live Aid. Now I'm a proud Swiftie.

When whoever wrote the plan called 'Taylor Swift- music act' they definitely had their heads screwed on. They have manufactured her perfectly. It's a shame the the obsession with her has led to many other artists being ignored though - ones who are just as talented, just as attractive (more so), write better songs, and are a lot more interesting. I don't blame people who fell for the marketing campaign, I do blame those who created this 'artist'.

'What is manufactured about her?'
Every single aspect of what is being presented is manufactured, some by her, most of it by the folk who came up with the concept of 'her'.
You watch who you like in concert though, entirely your choice, and I hope you enjoy all the live acts you see!

I wasn't suggesting you were planning to con, more than you make sure nobody tries to con you by some sort of scam where they don't actually pay you!

BlondeFool · 07/02/2024 14:41

Greedy.

Ihavenamechanged987 · 07/02/2024 14:42

Please don’t. I do understand why you want to but it just feeds into a vicious circle. I detest ticket touting. I’ve missed out on gigs that I’ve been waiting in the virtual queue on release day for just for them to go and be put up for insane prices a week later.

I have two tickets for Edinburgh and I’ve not long discovered I’m pregnant. Edinburgh is a trek for me so I’m unsure whether I’ll go or not. If I do end up selling the tickets I’ll be damned if I price them for more than I’ve paid.

OK, who is being ignored? Thanks to streaming, you no longer have to choose between acts - I can listen to all of them whenever I want. Its not like when I was a kid and I only had £10 pocket money so I had to choose between albums

TS used her voice with Apple and Spotify to make sure that up and coming artists were paid fairly. She's constantly supporting newcomers and other acts? So I really don't understand your point?

You don't see the irony in that question?

Also, of course those who designed 'Project TS' would incorporate likeable characteristics into their project, after all that makes the project more financially successful!

beguilingeyes · 07/02/2024 14:47

"Every single aspect of what is being presented is manufactured, some by her, most of it by the folk who came up with the concept of 'her'."

So how does that differ from anyone else who ever made a record? who is there that passes your criteria of purity? Brian Epstein put The Beatles in those suits.

Gizlotsmum · 07/02/2024 14:48

I believe you can only resell them through ticketmaster and the price will be limited to face value plus booking fee.

A lot being advertised right now are scams.

Either use them or sell them at face value.. don’t try to make a profit out of it which is exactly what all the wait list etc was meant to prevent

user1471548941 · 07/02/2024 14:49

The tickets going for £2k aren’t the kind of ones you bought for £190- they are the ones that were £300+ to start with. So if you’re thinking you’ll get £8k and that’s what will get you out of debt etc, that’s pretty unlikely.

If you resell, it should be through the official means so you could get face value for them, if you need the £760 do it this way so a genuine fan can go.

But I would revise your financial expectations before deciding to do so.

I didn't mention purity, so not sure where that has come from.
Of course all acts market themselves to some extent, but they are not created completely to fill a gap in the market, specifically though not exclusively the teenage (girl) market. TS didn't just happen by accident, the whole thing is clearly manufactured. It's manufactured well and lots of folk enjoy it, but it's definitely a marketing project.

itsnotabouthepasta · 07/02/2024 14:52

@Wasbedeudetetdas You're the one who keeps saying thst other act should have more success, so here's your chance to tell me who you think those acts are?

It's a simple question regardless of whether you think its irony or not.

If you want to recommend some other acts, then please do!

But I don't need to drag people down, just to shout out about the achievements of others.

Dweetfidilove · 07/02/2024 14:53

If someone is rich / daft enough to pay 2k for £800 tickets from someone who was daft enough to pay that amount while struggling with the COL crisis, by all means, carry on 🤷🏽‍♀️

not necessarily true, I believe the seated the most expensive face value tickets were £190. Those priced higher were 'packages' which included some merch along with a various class of seat which determined the price, as way to squeeze more profit out of fans. But these are not the best seats in the stadium, in fact my £170 seats are far better than I could have gotten on the £660 package. Regardless I am very skeptical of any tickets actually being sold for £2k, something being listed for that price does not mean it will sell for it.
