To not vote Labour because of their abhorrent views on the female sex?

1000 replies

Lion400 · 05/02/2024 18:43

Starmer cannot represent women, he can’t even define us. Questioning a trans person is a hate crime, but misogyny is not. Sorry Labour, you’ve lost my vote. Have they lost anyone else’s??

‘On trans ideology, the vast majority of voters, and certainly a majority of traditional Labour voters from working class backgrounds, tend to cast a sceptical eye on the tenets of an ideological movement that asserts that biological men must be accepted as women – and be offered similar rights and access to women’s spaces and sports as women – simply by asserting their new status’

Transgender ideology has created the biggest medical scandal of our generation

Vulnerable young people who transitioned before they were ready are paying a high price for this disastrous project

Vote the f tories out

Oh.

Well that's dumb.

Voting the Tories out and getting labour in won't magically fix anything and will, in all likeliness, make things worse.

NHS is doomed.
Women are doomed.
Kids are doomed.

Personally, yes, I think YABU, but I can see that I’m in the minority.

You might be in the minority on MN but I am not convinced that the country as a whole feels as strongly as MN seems to about this particular issue.

jeaux90 · 05/02/2024 19:35

Yep they lost my vote on this issue too. I used to be an LP member.

They have abandoned class analysis for their bizarre obsession with identity politics.

I should probably clarify that I do not think trans women are women, but their unfortunate policy on this would not stop me from voting for Labour.

bellinisurge · 05/02/2024 19:36

Labour can't be trusted with women's rights. Until Corbyn I was a lifelong Labour voter (since 1987). Best we can hope for is someone like Badenoch becoming Tory leader of the Opposition. She can't do any harm because she won't be in government, but she can hold Starmer to account over women's rights if he becomes PM.
That said, we thought that Labour was a shoe-in in 1992 and they blew it.
Starmer saying more stupid shit like "some women have a penis" and he might blow it (if you pardon the expression).

IWFH · 05/02/2024 18:57

I don't know OP.

On the other hand AIBU not to vote Tory because they are a bunch of unscrupulous, lying cunts, with their noses in the trough, with abhorrent views on just about everything, who have completely fucked this country over?

I feel like you should start a poll Grin

TiredArse · 05/02/2024 19:37

It’s a good job the tories are properly keen on women’s rights.

Oh, wait…

OpenEvening · 05/02/2024 19:37

I’m so torn. I am a lifelong Labour voter and would take most of their policies over anything the Tories have to offer. I despair at the thought of another Tory government in power. I also live in a marginal seat and I think Labour have a good chance of getting in this time.

But this complete failure to stand up for women is really unforgivable. I’d feel like a turkey voting for Christmas.

Agreed. I think for most of the electorate the main focus is the economy / the NHS.

That's nice dear. You vote Tory then. See where that gets you.

😂 hard agree

Mysteriousfrowns · 05/02/2024 19:40

I would have voted Labour but there is no way I will now because I know what a woman is unlike Labour.

Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit · 05/02/2024 19:41

In a limited democracy like Britain where we have a deeply flawed first past the post system we aren't voting for anyone really. Some voters in marginal constituencies can choose between candidates but the rest of us are really just being good citizens by voting.
Hopefully we will get electoral reform soon and then you can choose a party who represents you.
For now as so many posters have said your best hope is to vote the tories out. Nothing can happen until these dreadful profiteers and abusers are no longer in government.

AdamRyan · 05/02/2024 19:42

It's a tricky one. Vote for the party who say women don't have penises, but have also have no plans to change the law to that effect, have presided over the effective decriminalisation of rape and put in place policies increasingly forcing women into poverty

Or....

Vote for the party that says woman = adult female, plans to strengthen the Equality Act to protect spaces for biological women, and has a goal to halve violence against women and girls, but you don't trust them because the Telegraph says they lie

🤔

BobbyBiscuits · 05/02/2024 19:42

@Cancelledcurio Yep, that's exactly what it is. Who's gonna buy a passport when they can't afford a fucking bus fare? I heard there's a free photo voting card but they kept that shit quiet. I bet it's a sham anyway.
Get the Tories out.

pointythings · 05/02/2024 19:44

It's amazing how these threads pop up like clockwork any time there's 1) an imminent byelection, 2) a Tory who has put his foot in it, in this case Rishi with his bet with Piers Morgan.

Not transparent at all. Mind if I use it for window glazing?

ohyesohyesoh · 05/02/2024 19:45

Icepop79 · 05/02/2024 18:52

Don’t think for a moment that the Tories give 2 hoots about women’s rights. The rampant misogyny of the right will never go away.

I’ll take my chances with Labour. At least they have some respect for humanity.

This is my feeling too. This point from Labour is REALLY grating but I can't vote Tory. But also , wouldn't not vote.
I hate to say it but I'm thinking it's the best of a bad bunch.

Lion400 · 05/02/2024 19:46

PrawnDumplings · 05/02/2024 19:29

If you don't vote the tories out, then you might as well be voting Tory & saying you don't give a fuck about schools, the NHS, people who don't earn the highest salaries.... there is more than one topic of importance.

Women’s rights are the most important issue. For me. I have daughters.

Women’s rights have gone so far backwards in recent years, it’s unthinkable a few years ago. When we thought progress was being made.

The US repealing Roe Vs Wade. All the misogyny we face each day. It’s too much. Rochdale groomers. Trans rights over women’s rights. Males in female changing rooms. Males in women’s sports, males in women’s prisons. A male raping a women, being noted as ‘a woman raping a woman’ in police records. Horrific actually. A naked grown man in the same space as kids and women changing for eg. Swimming. The significant majority of sexual assaults happen in unisex toilets / changing rooms.
That’s just a snap shot of the issues. No more. No thanks Labour. They’re even vile to their own female MPs (Rosie Duffield). No thanks in touch with the common people (vomit) ‘Sir’ Keir.

Until Corbyn I was a lifelong Labour voter (since 1987).

Same. I saw Corbyn being interviewed on the Andrew Marr Show when AM asked him about TW and whether JC believed men were women if they said they were.

JC mumbled an unclear, non commital response and AM pressed him for a clear answer. In the end, he gave a mealy mouthed confirmation that, yes, TWAW. He couldn't even look AM in the eye.

It was clear he didn't actually believe it at all and knew how ridiculous it sounded to state it.

We're all used to politicians lying, but if they can't even answer a simple question like "does a man actually become a woman no different to a born woman if he says he is a woman?" honestly, then how can they be trusted on anything?

Gcfemale · 05/02/2024 19:47

Those that vote with labour/greens will absolutely be throwing all those that have fought for women's rights to equal pay, equal divorce, to have a job when they marry, to get the vote (and others) under the bus as this is another women's rights issue and as 51% of the population are women, when are women going to stand up for themselves and protect our daughters rights? It is absolutely worth a single issue vote to tell this bunch of shysters that we can't be gaslit with this BS.

Lion who has been in power since 2010? Why are you blaming Labour for this? Confused

I know I'll be slated for this but I think it's such an entitled view to say this one issue stops you from voting to prevent the Tories getting in again. I am absolutely furious about the erosion of women's rights. I think the whole TRA movement is batshit. But I have to put that aside and vote for whoever is most likely to get the Tories out.

Someone upthread said they wouldn't vote but would watch with a glass of wine. Well fucking great for you but there are millions of children in poverty and people dying because they can't get NHS treatment for whom this is not an ideological spectator sport.
