Food portions and how to laugh this off??

Help me dear mners, my dh is gaslighting me into accepting his penis portions and I need your stories of similar craziness to help me laugh it off..!

In laws came round, we had two large steaks for dinner. MIL wasn't keen on steak so we made her a stuffed pepper and sides so she was catered for and happy. FIL wanted half of one of the steaks, fine. Dh asked what I thought about that and I said yes fine we'll just share the rest. Dh looked confused for a bit and I said I think it's enough between the two of us to share the remainder.

FIL cooked the sides, DH bbqed the steaks (i was in with the baby), and I come out to see three plates of food. Two have half a steak on them and the third has a whole steak, which dh had claimed as his plate.

I was like ummm are you not splitting it? He said yes I did, and I kind of laughed in disbelief saying no you've given yourself twice the amount of food as me! He got really defensive, said this was what we agreed (not true), and got cross. I told him I was going to even things out, so cut off some of his, and he was so grumpy about it, saying he'd said he wanted a full one and I agreed to that. No "I'm sorry I misunderstood and under catered for you, let's split it like grown ups".

It is such a stupid little thing but keeps playing on my mind, what on earth was that?! Please tell me stories of similar imbalances that your partners have tried to get away with to help me put it into perspective.

Always enjoy a thread that makes me realise how dull some people’s lives are that they’d give this a second thought. Take more food if you want it

How dull and meaningless must your own life be to not only click on the thread but post what you fondly imagine is a 'put down'? That is the definition of sad.

Calliopespa · 06/02/2024 12:45

…and in any case the whole problem seems to be that there wasn’t more food to take.

reclaimmyboobs · 06/02/2024 13:20

Let’s see: more of no more steak available is, carry the one, solve for X, then… the limit does exist!

JustEatTheOneInTheBallPit · 06/02/2024 13:34

Did this thread used to have a different title, or am I going completely fucking mad now?

Swear to god I’ve been here before but the title used to be something to do with penises.

It’s been changed. But I also think this thread has turned out to be a shortcut to insanity so perhaps that’s played a part!

JustEatTheOneInTheBallPit · 06/02/2024 13:44

Aha! Thanks @Calliopespa title change but I’m still mental…. True!!

In order to help other users not make the same mistake I did, I would like to make another title change request: “the one about 1.5 steaks and a stuffed pepper”. For your consideration.@MNHQ

Sweden99 · 06/02/2024 13:46

I often eat the OH's left overs.
Having read this thread, I am unsure if I am a selfish monster or dreadfully abused.

Yes, pretty good.

Though I’m still fixating on that quarter fraction. How about “ the battle of the quarter fillet.” ?

chantelion · 06/02/2024 13:55

This op was embarrassing to read. How ick to stand there squabbling over food like this. Hope you didn't do this in front of everyone else.

Or to fully encapsulate the nutritional angle that has featured: “ OP’s brush with anaemia ( courtesy of greedy DH)”

@Teenagehorrorbag splendid story about the bath bombs! What happened when he realised what he'd got in his mouth?

Oh it was hilarious! He came running in from the kitchen literally foaming at the mouth, absolutely horrified! DD and I fell about laughing and have never let him forget it....😂!

This year I found some bath bombs in B&M decorated like fancy doughnuts - a no-brainer for a stocking present 😃.

It sounded to me more like OP was 'hangry', which is not surprising if she's breast feeding, and wanted her rightful share of the food. I know very well what I'm like when very hungry and can't criticise her.

Did DH give you a decent portion of penis later to make up for it?

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

To be fair to @PenisPortions, I do not know she expected a 23 page thread of heated posts. She seemed to be more conveying the need to let off steam about a fairly petty thing in which her husband was a bit selfish.

Yes. I think the thread developed more heat and momentum than OP originally invested it with. But it’s been great fun OP😊- if a little disappointing for poor Cheddar who was clearly thinking down another avenue entirely when she saw your title/ username 😉

Calliopespa · 06/02/2024 14:37

(At very first glance, I actually thought it said “ proportions” not portions. )

My husband hasn't had a job for 6 months (was made redundant). He starts a new job soon.
While he was not working, he did the weekly food shop whilst I was out at work.
At the weekend he said "so what day are YOU going shopping next week". I laughed and said I wouldn't be doing the food shop every single week anymore (happy to do my fair share though, lkke every other week) He replied with "you will give me a few weeks off though won't you?". I told him he'd had 6 months off!
Previous to this, I have been the main food shopper for almost 20 years. Apart from a few times, I was maybe too sick to go 🙄

It was more like he had twenty years off!

SapphireSeptember · 06/02/2024 17:42

D600 · 04/02/2024 21:57

It is hard to know where to start.🙄
There are better sources of protein than that, is the point,

And by the way if you are also breast feeding and you don't know that tuna is loaded with mercury, yes I wonder what century you are living in too.

Cows milk is you biggest source of pesticides and drives IGF1 which promotes breast cancer. Great for your baby.
Better say no more.

Hello again.

What better sources? Currently getting my protein from meat, fish, eggs and dairy. Those are all complete proteins, and the best sources of protein for humans.

I'm not breastfeeding, I'm pregnant. Yes I know tuna has mercury in it. Current NHS guidelines say pregnant women should eat no more than the equivalent of four tins of tuna a week, so I buy four tins and ration them.

Also, yes and no. Eating dairy products has no link to breast cancer in countries where it's the norm. In other parts of the world it is linked. And the foods with the most pesticides in them are fruits and vegetables.

Are you a vegan? Because you're being very snippy about foods a lot of people eat. My body seems to be telling me what I need to eat, so I'm obliging. When I first found out I was pregnant it was cucumber and watermelon. If I don't eat things rich in protein, iron and calcium my baby is just going to leach them out of my body. As long as I'm not eating utter rubbish I'll be fine.

Dairy products linked to increased risk of cancer | University of Oxford

First major study to investigate dairy consumption and cancer risk in Chinese adults has found that greater intake was associated with higher risks of liver cancer and female breast cancer.

I agree that's it's not about hunger but why all the hate for tinned fish here, I love it !

I really want some tinned pilchards now, and some tinned sardines. 😋 Mackerel is lovely, whether fresh, smoked or tinned!

Wish I knew where I could get anchovies in brine that were on the salad I had at Pizza Express the year before last, they were gorgeous!

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 06/02/2024 18:40

Oh when I was pregnant, many many years ago :) my body craved M&S hummus and carrot sandwiches and fresh orange juice.
( tho I did pick out the green stuff, can't remember if it was lettuce or watercress )

My normal choice would be a prawn one and def not orange juice !

They haven't done that sandwich for years :(

SapphireSeptember · 06/02/2024 19:02

Love a prawn sandwich, or salmon with cucumber! Although that sandwich sounds good, green bits included! I also love orange juice. 😋

I don’t think they are off.

Step it through. Two steaks, 3 people. FIL gets half of one so that leaves 1.5 steaks. The suggestion made by OP as I understand it was to divide this remaining 1 and a half steaks between the two of them . Thus, 1.5 divided by two means each of OP snd DH would receive 0.75 or three quarters of a steak. OP was given half a steak, so to top her up to her suggested quota DH needed to give her one quarter. In the event, DH kept the whole of the second steak so the contested chunk ( or the amount by which OP was shortchanged and which forms the basis of the dispute) is one quarter. Ie; to even things up DH needed to chop his in half then half again and keep one of the latter halves ( amounting to a quarter) and give the other quarter to OP . Or cut his whole steak into a kind of L-shape🙄. But it was really quite a small piece of meat at issue ( namely the corner cut out to form the L). I bet MIL felt like chucking it in a blender and serving them all mince.

.... Or cut both the whole and the half in half each, each person gets a 'big half' and a 'little half' and they're equal. And it takes less time to do that than it took me to type it!

I agree it shows the complexity of people’s relationship with food. I find the hurling of abuse ie he’s a greedy pig, thought provoking. Guarantee some of the folks doing it have issues with food themselves.

for me, as said, this whole thing is about the unedifying sight of two grown adults fighting over a small bit of steak, in front of guests, and giving them hardly any.

I think it shows the opposite really, some things regarding food are more simplistic and not that deep.

Fillet steak tends to be a treat for lots of people, if ordinarily a couple will generally have different amounts and the woman naturally eats less than the man in general they will still often eat equal amounts of certain things, such as they each have a portion of steak.

The DH in this situation was greedy!

Hollytree96 · 07/02/2024 00:26

I have never heard of “half a steak” for an adult portion so would have said something off the bat! At dinner, DP and I eat the same size portion. I would be annoyed but also really confused as to how half a steak was ever suggested as a portion!
