Aibu to think "panty liners" should be re-named?

I'd be happy with "pant liners", but I'm open to other suggestions.

To me, the word "panties" is either a sexualised or infantilised version of the word "pants". I cringe when I see it on supermarket products.

Odd topic. However, my mum and therefore I have always called them pantliners 🤷

scorpiogirly · 28/01/2024 12:43

Muff mules

TeenLifeMum · 28/01/2024 12:43

There’s nothing sexual about “panty liners” 😂😂😂😂

however, knicker stickers is an amazing rebrand idea!

Dothefandangos · 28/01/2024 12:43

Minge mopper?

3beesinmybonnet · 28/01/2024 12:43

I'm in my 60s and remember when they were called "mini-pads". "Panties" is an american term which makes me cringe. YANBU.

NoTouch · 28/01/2024 12:44

In the context of liners I can't get my panties in a twist over it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Wingedharpy · 28/01/2024 12:18

Would gusset pads or fanny hammocks work for you?😉

Oh god, just spat my tea out laughing. Forevermore in this house, fanny hammocks it is!!

PretzelMeUp · 28/01/2024 12:45

90% of PPs on this thread need to work on advertising because you are all very talented!!!

Dobbyhorse · 28/01/2024 12:45

Gusset Guards?

MysweetAudrina · 28/01/2024 12:45

I called them fanny pads in my house which was fine until my then 3 year old ds piped up in the supermarket while walking down that particular aisle, Mam do you need to get your fanny pads.

menopausalmare · 28/01/2024 12:46

Only perverts say "panty". You have my full support for a name change.

Gusset Guards?

Edited

I nearly choked 🤣

Knicker sticker sounds repulsive to me, so it’s horses for courses I guess.

I was just about to say, I cannot see how knicker sticker is better. That sounds so much worse

Lovemusic82 · 28/01/2024 12:47

Fanny plasters?

I think just calling them ‘liners’ is fine, everyone knows what they are for, I mean ‘sanitary towel’ doesn’t really suggest a product used to go in your knickers either.

And Americans

Fanny hammocks!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I'm stealing this and will use it from now on!

BabyofMine · 28/01/2024 12:24

A pad is a ‘sanitary towel’ for menstruation, a pantyliner is not the same, it’s for vaginal discharge etc to keep your underwear dry. Definitely not American, I’ve known it as pantyliner in England since the early 90s.

They're using an American term though. Not many people say 'panties' in the UK.

KimKardassion · 28/01/2024 12:49

I always heard them be called Fanny Pads

yellowsmileyface · 28/01/2024 12:51

I've always disliked the word "knickers". I don't know why. I just refer to them as "underwear" whenever I do need to refer to them, which is very rarely.

My point is that you can't please everyone. What words/phrases annoy some people are a preference to others. But no one is forcing you to use any words you don't want to.

PuppyMonkey · 28/01/2024 12:51

Americans probably think we’re weirdos for saying knickers tbf. Grin

I do love their daft “panty hose” though, as opposed to boring old tights

GrumpyPanda · 28/01/2024 12:54

No issue with "panties" here, however calling them "liners" is a ridiculous euphemism. They don't line anything, they roll up and stick to your bits. Bit-stickers would be more accurate.

Bbq1 · 28/01/2024 12:55

Why is panty sexualised? I'm sure there are plenty of women out there who refer to their owm underwear as panties? I use the word knickers but i don't like it written down. Maybe Op has too much time on their hands to be thinking about this so deeply.

madeinmanc · 28/01/2024 12:57

I agree, it's really cringe. It should be knicker liners.

polkadotpeppermint · 28/01/2024 13:02

They’re not called this on the packaging any more! They all say daily liners.

forcedfun · 28/01/2024 13:05

WildFlowerBees · 28/01/2024 12:29

Knicker sticker

Perfect!
