To not wash the inside of my vagina?

First AIBU so please be nice! There is a huge debate going on on twitter where people are horrified that some women wear tampons in the shower (it seems to be the majority of the many women responding to the tweets who are horrified). They claim it’s unsanitary because then you can’t wash inside your vagina. I thought we weren’t supposed to do this? I’m sure I had this drummed into me as a child. I never have and have never had an infection. Have I been doing it wrong all these years?!

I mean, I definitely give the opening a thorough clean with water, no soapy products, when I'm in the shower. I don't jet wash the fucker, but rinse.. yes. Also never had a yeast infection.

Lammveg · 25/01/2024 10:37

No need to wash inside. It's self cleaning and washing inside, especially with any products, will disrupt the natural pH etc.

fulgrate · 25/01/2024 10:38

Are they men?

poetryandwine · 25/01/2024 10:38

You are completely correct OP. Our vaginas are self cleaning, at least when all is well. (Tampons don’t prevent washing the vulva gently, which is recommended)

Mumoftwo1312 · 25/01/2024 10:39

Only wash the outside, with water.

Otherwise you will get bv/thrush from messing up the microbial balance

MrsFionaCharming · 25/01/2024 10:39

I also don’t wash inside my nose, my throat, or my rectum. But for some reason, it’s only the vagina we’re told is disgusting and in need of deep cleaning by idiots on the internet.

takealettermsjones · 25/01/2024 10:43

"I don't jet wash the fucker" 🤣🤣

PPTorPDF · 25/01/2024 10:44

There seems to be a new thread every day at the minute about whether or not you should wash your vagina. Whats going on?

acatcalledjohn · 25/01/2024 10:46

Are they suggesting we're supposed to clean right up there, all the way up to our cervix?

Twitter/X is full of idiots, even more so since it became X.

LemonLight · 25/01/2024 10:46

i don't jet wash the fucker 😂😂😂😂😂

Vags are self cleaning so you don't need to wash inside your vagina. You can get things like thrush from doing that! I do give her a rinse if I've been doing naughties or had a period. The outer parts a gentle scrub with a shower puff once or twice a day.

TulipVictory · 25/01/2024 10:48

I've always given mine a swirl up there with shower gel and rinsed out with the shower head 🤷🏼‍♂️

FusionChefGeoff · 25/01/2024 10:49

But.....how are you supposed to clean INSIDE?? Literally spray the shower up yourself???? That would give me the heebie jeebies

PinkChampange · 25/01/2024 10:49

You squirt SHOWER GEL actually inside the cavity of your vagina??

toomanyleggings · 25/01/2024 10:49

You def shouldn’t. I started having a lot of discomfort down there and got diagnosed with BV. The nurse asked me about my cleaning habits to which I defensively told her that I used the shower attachment to clean inside every day and she said that was exactly what was causing the problems. You shouldn’t douche. It’s upsets the flora

BoohooWoohoo · 25/01/2024 10:50

Are they Americans ? I’ve not heard of Uk women douching

Midnlghtrain · 25/01/2024 10:51

Are they shoving a bar of soap up their sphincter? A little bottle brush down their penis? I assume not!!

Cheesewiz · 25/01/2024 10:52

No, you are not supposed to wash the inside of your vagina, just the external part.

Grilledsquid · 25/01/2024 10:53

I didn't read the whole discussion but I thought it was mainly about free flow and the self cleaning rather than actually washing inside

You are absolutely correct, we are absolutely NOT supposed to wash inside the vagina, it would disrupt the healthy environment it creates for itself.

The 'women' on Twitter who are horrified are either incredibly stupid, or men. Men who like to make women insecure, or men who may need to wash inside their surgically created orifice created from colon tissue, and cannot understand that a healthy female body takes care of itself.

Blanice · 25/01/2024 10:57

What is meant by “inside”?

I’ll wash my labia using the shower-head. Only with water though. Never any shower gels or the like.

I have to admit it’s a bit of a problem when I stay somewhere without a detachable shower.

I do the same. I don’t use any kind of soap inside (when I say ‘inside’, I mean the area inside the opening if that makes sense). I will use soap outside it though e.g. on the groin area etc. and everywhere else.
