To not wash the inside of my vagina?

Secretname123 · 25/01/2024 10:32

First AIBU so please be nice! There is a huge debate going on on twitter where people are horrified that some women wear tampons in the shower (it seems to be the majority of the many women responding to the tweets who are horrified). They claim it’s unsanitary because then you can’t wash inside your vagina. I thought we weren’t supposed to do this? I’m sure I had this drummed into me as a child. I never have and have never had an infection. Have I been doing it wrong all these years?!

Only wash the outside, with water.

Otherwise you will get bv/thrush from messing up the microbial balance

You can use soap etc....

You absolutely do not need to wash inside your vagina. You absolutely do need to wash your vulva. There was a long thread about this recently and I don't want to kick it off again but I was surprised at the amount of women who only wash their vulva with water. However, anybody who tries to wash the inside of their vagina needs to stop it.

Crazy, isn't it?
Maybe we should start saying " inside the vaginal canal". Surely nobody could think that includes the labia etc? The only way it could be clearer is to take off your knickers, hop on the table and show them and there's a limit how far I am willing to go to provide information on the appropriate cleaning of genitals. My limit as it turns out is a pointy stick and a criminal record.

If you wear it in the shower it will absorb water and feel heavy.
Also give yourself a sweep with the index finger and hook out the heamorages making their exit - saving yourself clogging a tampon that morning.

How does it get wet? My tampon stays dry in the shower because the water doesn’t go up inside me?

There are lots of men in Twitter who have a man made hole which they refer to as a vagina, perhaps it’s these people who need to clean it properly for infections etc as it’s a wound? Actual vaginas are self cleaning.

I mean, I definitely give the opening a thorough clean with water, no soapy products, when I'm in the shower. I don't jet wash the fucker, but rinse.. yes. Also never had a yeast infection.

Thankyou for the laugh with the jet wash statement🤣🤣🤣🤣😂
some of these comment have me crying 🤣 mainly with laughter!!!

You have to find the right soap though. I learnt the hard way not to use original source tea tree shower gel 😱

I would never attempt to wash inside, but I'd always remove tampon before showering to to give outer area a good wash. Just preference really.

"I don't jet wash the fucker" 🤣🤣

🤣

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 25/01/2024 12:10

I do use a gentle emollient on my vulva (I have eczema and it was recommended by a dermatologist who specialises in vulval skin conditions), but I've never cleaned my vagina (ie the hole that I put tampons in and by the way it is SO depressing still to have to clarify that distinction) with anything.

IncompleteSenten · 25/01/2024 12:12

Ok. 3 pictures. 1 Original side view. 1 with blue and yellow. 1 with 3 little dots.

Blue and yellow - Wash the blue, do not squirt fairy liquid up the yellow.

And because I have a spare slot for a third photo, we have 3 openings. Blue - we pee from. Yellow - we push babies from. Black - we poop from.

To not wash the inside of my vagina?

@Secretname123 I've always used either Simple or Sanex soap. I've never had a problem with either of those products. Ouch for you though 🙈

Good grief, I really hope the inside of my vagina is nothing like the inside of my oven!

😆😆
FFS!

lacyviolet · 25/01/2024 12:15

@Secretname123 , I had exactly the same experience with the Original Source Mint shower gel😮Nowadays I stick to Sanex Zero% which is fine to use 'down below', though definitely not inside!

Hilarious thread 😂

I’m not sure the issue here is women not knowing the parts of their body though. The whole discussion on twitter was based around the fact most people there seem to think you need to wash out the vagina. They’re referring to the inside bit because if they weren’t a tampon wouldn’t be an issue in the shower.

@TheFormidableMrsC i only clean my vulva with water because literally anything else makes me unbearably itchy.
dD is the same & I was told by a doctor that it’s common 🤷🏻‍♀️

weirdoboelady · 25/01/2024 12:19

MN has its own ideas about how we should clean vaginas. (Click photo for full context)

To not wash the inside of my vagina?
IncompleteSenten · 25/01/2024 12:19

You would think so but I have been on threads on here where it is very clear far too many women do not know.

I remember one where a woman claimed she didn't know we pee from a different hole! She claimed she thought we peed through the vagina
🤦

And although I hope she was a) a troll and / or b) a man, she probably wasn't

Thank you for reminding me why I closed my Twitter account.

Why not?

Midnlghtrain · 25/01/2024 10:51

Are they shoving a bar of soap up their sphincter? A little bottle brush down their penis? I assume not!!

The mental image I just got of a bottle brush being used in that way! 😂Thank you!! 😂

So do I. The lightbulb has gone, it needs the rust scrubbing off and occasionally smoke comes out when you open the door.

acatcalledjohn · 25/01/2024 10:46

Are they suggesting we're supposed to clean right up there, all the way up to our cervix?

Twitter/X is full of idiots, even more so since it became X.

If you’re not setting about yourself with a set of chimney sweep’s brushes and a bucket of hot Dettol, you’re just not trying hard enough.

Whitefoxnight · 25/01/2024 12:31

MrsFionaCharming · 25/01/2024 10:39

I also don’t wash inside my nose, my throat, or my rectum. But for some reason, it’s only the vagina we’re told is disgusting and in need of deep cleaning by idiots on the internet.

Yup, this. Well said.

Oh God, I'm done for now. Was trying to tell DH why I was helpless with laughter and couldn't get the words out so had to show him the words. He just said, oh right, and gave me a funny look and now it's started me off again.

I do this. Only had thrush once in my 70 years and it was after antibiotics so I think they were to blame. That was about 40 years ago.
