To not wash the inside of my vagina?

Secretname123 · 25/01/2024 10:32

First AIBU so please be nice! There is a huge debate going on on twitter where people are horrified that some women wear tampons in the shower (it seems to be the majority of the many women responding to the tweets who are horrified). They claim it’s unsanitary because then you can’t wash inside your vagina. I thought we weren’t supposed to do this? I’m sure I had this drummed into me as a child. I never have and have never had an infection. Have I been doing it wrong all these years?!

Tmi but I do wash my arsecrack once a week with soap but never my vagina, just give the vulval area a rinse with water and the odd bath.
I used to use soap but found it was causing vulval eczema..so now I have to be really careful when using products down below. Apparently there is such a thing as being too clean. Blush

You wash your arsecrack with soap only once a week? I wash mine with soap everyday in the shower, am I doing it wrong?

whattodo22222 · 25/01/2024 11:18

I use a little squirt of my unscented face wash on my hands to wash my vulva and would NEVER wash inside my vagina. Shower gel and shower puff for the rest of my body.

deydododatdodontdeydo · 25/01/2024 11:19

It's not men, it's most likely American women.
They douche, and think any woman who doesn't is horrifically unhygienic.
Bonkers.
They also think all men should be circumsised for the same reason (hygiene).

I do wash my arsecrack once a week.

Once a week @ChristmasTreeCookies ? Surely every day? Unless you only poo once a week?

JellyComb · 25/01/2024 11:21

When i was younger i used to be able to kind of suck the bath water up inside my vagina and kind of WHOOSH it out again, when in the bath. Can't really do it anymore with my knackered old pelvic floor.

Am i the only one who uses soap on her undercarriage then?? It would smell if i didn't! I don't get thrush or anything else.

There seems to be a new thread every day at the minute about whether or not you should wash your vagina. Whats going on?

A couple of kids seeing how easy it is to get a bunch of women talking about their fannies, I reckon Grin

ChristmasTreeCookies · 25/01/2024 11:23

@TheDevilGun

Haha I meant with soap once a week Grin

I do wash there everyday seeing as everyone wants to know, but have to use an emollient the rest of the time due to eczema.

New2024 · 25/01/2024 11:23

Showering is washing from above unless the “jet wash” option. I like an occasional bubbly bath. Sitting in bubble bath water has never done any harm and I do feel squeaky clean in a way showers never make me feel.

DeanElderberry · 25/01/2024 11:24

In the olden pre-shower days when we used a basin and washed the 'its' with a washcloth and water, this would not even have been possible.

And as everyone else has said, it isn't a healthy thing to do. I remember the days in the 1970s when they tried to sell us deodorant to spray down below, and the more recent horrors of scented sanitary towels. Trying to make women feel insecure and make money from them, so what if their health is damaged in the process.

AmeliaEarhart · 25/01/2024 11:24

Maybe they (the obsessive fanjo washers) have given themselves thrush/BV from disrupting the chemical balance, which would cause itching/heavy discharge/an odd smell, leading them to believe this is the vagina’s natural state and it needs more scrubbing. Hence a vicious cycle.

DocOck · 25/01/2024 11:26

They are probably American.

nonumbersinthisname · 25/01/2024 11:26

Undercarriage routine in the shower is:

Any area that can grow hair: wash with soap or gel
Bum crack: same
Labia: swish through the area with a slightly soapy finger towards the end of washing the hairy bits, thoroughly rinse all the folds with water.
Any areas requiring access through a sphincter, and/or lined with mucosal membranes: leave well alone.

Shower occurs daily as a matter of routine, may be more frequent if it’s hot.

I have slight urinary incontinence (have to use Tena pads) and at the end of the day my fanny will smell of stale wee if i don't wash it with soap. Sorry thats massively TMI. I am 52 and menopausal and leak like a knackered old washing machine.

That isnt your vagina, thats your external genitalia which is usually washed in the shower anyway

TallulahBetty · 25/01/2024 11:28

fulgrate · 25/01/2024 10:38

Are they men?

Yep, this.

JellyComb · 25/01/2024 11:29

@soupfiend I know, i was refrerring to the use of soap, rather than just water.

Yozzer87 · 25/01/2024 11:29

I wash the outside with soap. I think it needs a bit of soap, especially in the summer when you get sweaty. But never anything up it.

That is your vulva, which yes needs washing.

We are talking about up inside the vagina, which does NOT need cleaning.

whattodo22222 · 25/01/2024 11:30

Does everyone in America have thrush and BV? Also, this is why it's so important to teach girls the correct names for our body parts. You can't use vulva and vagina interchangeably

SwordToFlamethrower · 25/01/2024 11:30

Never EVER wash the inside of your vagina, it has a delicate pH balance, and it is self cleaning.

babyproblems · 25/01/2024 11:30

I mean 99.999999% of twitter comments are batshit. Why would you take any of them seriously. Do you wash inside your nose and bum and ear with a deep clean soap?! No. You don’t need to wash the insides of your body. Get rid of your twitter account.. it’s not doing you any favours in life other than eating up your time!!! X

CaramelMac · 25/01/2024 11:30

No, and I don’t wash my towels after one use, I only change my bed sheets when I remember and I only brush my teeth once a day and I’ve not caught any strange diseases and I don’t smell (I know I don’t because my boss has recently had to tell someone on our team they do smell and he’d have no problems telling me the same if I did)
