I started a thread about how much I hate the word Cum and it got deleted

I don't know why.

It was quite an interesting discussion.

I maintain that I hate the word cum and I'm not sure when 'come' to orgasm, to arrive, to reach one's sexual destination got bastardised to the really base and crude word cum, it's redolent of grubby blokes, it's seedy, it's horrible.

Anyhoo, I'm not sure why I was deleted, I think maybe one poster thought I was a seedy bloke that wanted women to discuss that word.

Promise I'm not!

It was an interesting discussion up to the point of deletion.

I'm not that bothered.

I maintain that I hate to see, in written language, the word cum.

How one chooses to pronounce the word is neither here nor there, it looks crude, it is crude, it's a crude and unpleasant word, I find it demeaning. I absolutely think it's pornified language. It debases something that's good.

So yeah, we can argue about pronunciation, accents and whatnot.

But we're missing the actual issue.

Cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum cum

Err, well done.

It's not crude unless you consider sex crude

Considering that the porn you all mean is visual, the words used could be either spelling because it's pronounced the same

I find the word C**t much more vile than pussy. But it's thrown around with much glee here. More than most places online would tolerate as its generally considered the most vulgar and offensive word out there. (Though used to be the accepted word at one point I believe)

Apparently

this, because cum and come are said the same so maybe all the porn actors are saying “come”. 😀

Op must be listening veeeeery carefully to the porn tho; to differentiate if the porn is more or less than 5 years old (older porn is definitely using come whereas anything in the last 5 years must be using cum)

trakehner · 22/01/2024 18:40

I absolutely detest the word too OP! I have recently been looking to buy a sofa bed, don't want to spend too much so been looking for something second hand. My search on Marketplace brought up a local listing for a "sofa cum bed" 🤢. It upset me so much I've decided I can never buy a sofa bed, well certainly not a pre loved one anyway!

Gwenhwyfar · 22/01/2024 18:43

"My Welsh husband also said 'don't forget about cwm', which is a confluence of hills, the heads of the valleys, also a togetherness!"

Cwm just means (narrow) valley.

Tetsuo · 22/01/2024 18:43

Obviously the fact I pronounce come & cum differently has caused consternation.

Cum has a very definite u sound, come doesn't, why would it, there's no u in it...

And also whether it's a hard cum or soft come

I'll show myself out

Dont worry you can get a new one from Ikea. 😄

Why the attacks @0rangeCrush?

I've no beef with you (unless you have trademarked the word cum, in which case, I'm doing your work for you).

I remember as a teenager (mid noughties) my boyfriend text me that he wanted to cum on my tits. I replied that is was spelt come.

trakehner · 22/01/2024 18:48

@CormorantStrikesBack nooooooo!!!! I'm so traumatised by this, my guests will just have to sleep on the floor 😂

Maybe when you called me a tool? No?

CoffeeMachineNewbie · 22/01/2024 18:49

I dont like it.

In my mind, women come to orgasm, men cum on your tits.

Come is a a description of an experience, cum is another word for jizz.

CeciledeVolangesdeNouveau · 22/01/2024 18:50

@Fabricwitch lol. My younger boyfriend uses “come” in texts as a special favour to me. I just told him about this thread and got the reply “cum is pronounced more like a moan” (he watches porn, I don’t). I replied…. Unless they’re moaning “come”

Nobody tell @Tetsuo about the magic E, it’s going to ruin so so many words.

AlannaOfTrebond · 22/01/2024 18:52

I'm with you with the word come being fine, but being utterly grossed out when it is spelt cum.

I love fanfic and just have to block the spelling from my mind as it is so common. Having thought about it, it's not universal though and most of my preferred authors don't use the hideous bastardised spelling. The question is whether I like their writing because they don't use words that I dislike, or whether they are better writers anyway and their choice of words reflects that.

Don't even get me started on "thicc", that really does make me feel nauseous.

Tetsuo · 22/01/2024 18:52

I think I may understand the pronunciation thing.

I am, as I said from Yorkshire, but I am a 'posh' Yorkshireist, soo, I do use short uh vowels when there's a u in a word but I use a more RP pronunciation for some, it's softer and more rounded.

And yes! I see a linguistic anomaly.

Apologies for any confusion caused.

Tetsuo · 22/01/2024 17:08

I don't think it was @GinBlossom94. In fact, I'd put money on it not being regular vernacular in the 90s.

Yes, maybe, 'I would like to come on you'

Ergo, 'It would be most enjoyable to have an orgasm on your body'.

But not;

'I would like to cum on you'

Ergo, 'Your body is a canvas for my spunk'

Well it was in my neck of the woods, and being as that's the South West, things generally took longer to reach us (we are still miles behind but that another topic)

GinBlossom94 · 22/01/2024 18:54

We obviously didn't have mobiles to text on back then, but lots of handwritten notes were exchanged

RaininSummer · 22/01/2024 18:57

I agree that it is a sleazy word.

Gwenhwyfar · 22/01/2024 18:57

"why would it [come], there's no u in it..."

Ha ha ha, as if English were totally phonetic. It doesn't have a 'u' but it has a 'u' sound lol.

From the dictionary:
"How to pronounce come UK/kʌm/"
