I’m curious to hear everyone’s unpopular food opinions

AIBU to find lasagna massively overrated.

Ready meal lasagna is point blank rank.
Using jars of sauce makes an alright lasagna but nothing to hype about.
Making it from scratch is by far the tastiest option, but it is just so much effort to make a tomato based sauce while simultaneously making a cheese sauce and then layering to then have to wait for it to cook in the oven!
I’ve never actually had lasagna from a restaurant as it could be very nice but there’s always something that I fancy more.

What is everyone else’s unpopular food opinions?

Roast dinners are revolting. Too much. No one needs a days calories in one sitting. Plus the taste all slushy.

Chocolate is vastly overrated. Yes, even posh chocolate.

Agree. I’ve tried different types of chocolate from different countries and I have yet to have one that makes me prefer/choose it over fruit or vanilla.

The chocolate I do prefer has to have another flavour with it like nuts or coconut for me to enjoy it.

I like tinned chicken in white sauce. Apparently it smells like dog food. I love it!

Roast potatoes suck

How could you think that?! I've cooked extras to have leftovers tomorrow.

Peas and tomatoes (inc. Ketchup, tomato based meals etc.) shouldn't ever be served on the same plate

Why would they be?!

Herecomestreble1 · 21/01/2024 20:44

Fried eggs on a breakfast or in a sandwich are an absolute waste of eggs. As soon as you pop the yolk, you get one mouthful of yolky goodness before it runs around your plate and dries. Then all you have is the flavourless gelatinous white for the rest of your meal.

Scrambled all the way.

Comtesse · 21/01/2024 20:46

Mince pies are horrible.

KimberleyClark · 21/01/2024 20:46

Charlie Bigham’s lasagne is great.

Nutsabouttopic · 21/01/2024 20:47

Avocado is like mushed up snots

My unpopular opinion is that cheese sauce has no place in lasagne al forno; ragù, lasagne, bechamel, repeat until the dish is full. Dust with parmesan on the top if you must.

Loads of people use cheese sauce when they mean bechamel in my experience.

PonyPatter44 · 21/01/2024 20:48

Baked beans are disgusting and should be banned.

Haggis and black pudding are both lovely.

Bangbangchittychitty · 21/01/2024 20:49

Christmas pudding is overrated, not that nice

DisforDarkChocolate · 21/01/2024 20:49

Salted caramel is a con perpetrated by chefs who are too used to salt.

Emma543 · 21/01/2024 20:50

Chippy always smells better than it tastes..

You're making it wrong. Make a ragu, not a tomato sauce. Use cheese (ricotta, mozarella) not cheese sauce.

Outlookmainlyfair · 21/01/2024 20:51

I don’t get lasagne either. Spaghetti does not go with bolognaise- but don’t really like bolognaise either but if I must with penne.
i hate meal planning.
crispy chilli oil makes most things taste better.

NaughtyBoyGeorgeMichaelJacksonBrown · 21/01/2024 20:52

There is a time and a place for bland shite...ok it's not for everyone but not everything has to be served with a cajun twist or sriracha infused. Plain old fried beige shite has it's place.

gonetogreece · 21/01/2024 20:52

Cheesecake is gross and so is Red wine.

Missingmybabysomuch · 21/01/2024 20:52

I don't like bacon. Smells amazing. Tastes...meh 🤷

I also dislike ice cream.

SummitOfMountWashmore · 21/01/2024 20:52

phoenixrosehere · 21/01/2024 20:43

Why would they be?!

Sausage, chips, peas, ketchup?
Any kind of tomato containing meal served with pasta/rice/potatoes/whatever and veg - fine, just not peas

Lemongrass makes dishes taste like fairy liquid has accidentally been added

Agreed.

Snackpocket · 21/01/2024 20:53

I love a jar of dolmio white lasagne sauce when I make a lasagne. I don’t care if it’s not home made, not traditional and not bechamel!

AlltheFs · 21/01/2024 20:53

I like really overdone roast chicken.
