I’m curious to hear everyone’s unpopular food opinions

AIBU to find lasagna massively overrated.

Ready meal lasagna is point blank rank.
Using jars of sauce makes an alright lasagna but nothing to hype about.
Making it from scratch is by far the tastiest option, but it is just so much effort to make a tomato based sauce while simultaneously making a cheese sauce and then layering to then have to wait for it to cook in the oven!
I’ve never actually had lasagna from a restaurant as it could be very nice but there’s always something that I fancy more.

What is everyone else’s unpopular food opinions?

I don't like curry, nuts or custard.

orangeleopard · 22/01/2024 20:02

Dessert is far superior than getting a starter when eating out!

Lemonyfuckit · 22/01/2024 20:03

Guava tastes like feet. It's a con, it looks like it's going to taste like a delicious tropical fruit, and it literally tastes like feet.

CoQ10 · 22/01/2024 20:04

Oysters 🤮🤮🤮 are like big wet snotty bogies.

Catsmere · 22/01/2024 20:17

Corn in tuna mornay should be banned. Ruins it.

psychopath behaviour!

I know, I don't know what is wrong with me 🤣

CuppaWhiteTea · 22/01/2024 20:37

@Giggorata, good god yes! I don’t really go pubbing or clubbing much anymore but the horror of walking past a gaggle of vodka-Red Bull drinkers and involuntarily breathing in the smell. I can’t even look at the stuff.

Did you try putting lime juice on it? It massively improves the guava situation.

WickedSerious · 22/01/2024 21:26

Olives taste how I imagine wallpaper paste would.

Catsmere · 22/01/2024 21:43

Anchovies on pizza - just no.

Rubyupbeat · 22/01/2024 21:57

Alcohol is totally rank, even the most expensive kind.

Theunamedcat · 22/01/2024 22:00

Halloumi cheese squeaks and is tasteless

I think Italian and French food is crap

Would you care to elaborate? This is fascinating. Are you vegetarian? If so I can understand how these cuisines have limited appeal. If not - do you not enjoy any of the following

  • rotisserie chicken
  • seafood in any form
  • croissants and morning pastries
  • fresh fish stews or soups
  • breaded meat
  • dessert involving pastry, coffee or fruit
  • crudites
  • lots of soups
  • cheese
  • bread
  • pasta
  • cured meats or pâté
  • sardines or anchovies
  • Any offal, from sweetbreads to veal kidneys, ox heart, ox tail
  • boeuf bourguignon, coq au vin, poulet à la moutarde, aioli, cassoulet, bouillabaisse
  • frites
  • fried calamari or fish (petite friture/grande friture)
  • rabbit, snails, bulots, yellow chicken, mimolette vieille, smoked mozzarella, panini, roast peppers, ciabatta, tapenade, cantucci, nougat, meringue, oeufs meurette, ossobucco, béarnaise sauce, canard au sang, quenelles de morue, tartiflette, pissaladière, beef or tuna tartare or carpaccio
  • tomato salad, salade niçoise, French dressing with roquette and nuts, mesclun

<realises she’s obsessing and gets coat 😁>

WhamBamThankU · 22/01/2024 22:16

Prosecco is nicer than champagne. Was given Moët by my boss one Christmas and it was horrid.

Halloumi cheese squeaks and is tasteless

Have you tried cooking it with harissa and honey? Or just simple piment d’espelette (or failing that, cayenne/paprika). It’s very yummy. It squeaks because it doesn’t melt, which is a big part of the appeal.

GeckoEcho · 22/01/2024 22:19

Roast meals aside, we have the very worst cuisine in the world

Renamed · 22/01/2024 22:25

Spinach should not be served raw.
Many people now undercook asparagus and French beans, they shouldn’t be crunchy or squeaky
Superfoods are a loaf of rubbish
Strawberries are pointless
Orange juice is too sweet
chicken breast is like eating kitchen paper
Sliced packet bread isn’t food, it’s just mould waiting to happen
Shops should not be allowed to sell those tomatoes that are woody in the middle

Renamed · 22/01/2024 22:28

Oh yes and sweetcorn kernels. Ruin everything. Get rid of them.

EdinaMonsoon · 22/01/2024 22:48

@cristokitty The best dolmades available in the UK are made by Zanae (Greek producer). I buy these all the time from my local supermarket (I live in Greece) but I know they are available in Waitrose and on Ocado.

IcedPurple · 22/01/2024 22:49

Must say it's refreshing to see a food thread without all the usual 'The only reason you don't like such and such is because you've never had it done properly' or 'You only think you dislike such and such because you buy the Tesco version. But if you had it in that little bistro I visited in Provence last summer you'd love it.'

No, I probably wouldn't.

There’s definitely been a bit of that.

Imagine the cheek of people liking different things to you🤯🤯 that couldn’t possibly happen, it must be something they’re doing wrong 😂
