I’m curious to hear everyone’s unpopular food opinions

AIBU to find lasagna massively overrated.

Ready meal lasagna is point blank rank.
Using jars of sauce makes an alright lasagna but nothing to hype about.
Making it from scratch is by far the tastiest option, but it is just so much effort to make a tomato based sauce while simultaneously making a cheese sauce and then layering to then have to wait for it to cook in the oven!
I’ve never actually had lasagna from a restaurant as it could be very nice but there’s always something that I fancy more.

What is everyone else’s unpopular food opinions?

I don't like chocolate ice cream. Vanilla is so much better

KimberleyClark · 22/01/2024 16:55

Coke (the drink) is disgusting stuff.

Londonrach1 · 22/01/2024 17:20

Sweet and sour ..sorry but that's so wrong . Yuk

CasperGutman · 22/01/2024 17:23

Tomato ketchup isn't that great. Unless you mix a good shake of Worcestershire sauce into it. Then it's the food of the gods, especially with kippers and a slice of buttered wholemeal toast.

CasperGutman · 22/01/2024 17:25

Oh, and I agree about ready meal lasagne. It's rubbish. Like so many Italian dishes, lasagne lives or dies by the quality of the ingredients.

I can never be bothered making both sauces for lasagne from scratch, so only ever cook it when there's a pot of ragù bolognese in the freezer from a previous batch cook.

boobot1 · 22/01/2024 17:44

I think Italian and French food is crap

I post this on every unpopular opinion thread and for once it’s relevant. Gravy poured over nice food making everything soggy and brown and miserable and horrible. Ban it.

Totally agree. Gravy is disgusting and only belongs in stews and casseroles. I don't want my food made soggy especially things that should be crisp like roast potatoes, yorkshire puddings, chips etc. I am not a baby and do not need to eat mush

I also want my food to taste of what it is not gravy.

BrendaMcPherson · 22/01/2024 17:49

Marrowfat processed peas are delicious, as are Worcestershire sauce sandwiches (has to be white bread)
I don't get the hate for Cadburys chocolate. I much prefer it to posher brands.

AffIt · 22/01/2024 15:48

Oh, and as a Scot, shortbread is utterly pointless.

If you're going to waste calories on a biscuit, at least have one that tastes nice.

Very true, reminds me of when my sister said dried figs are like eating sand

Chicken skin. Bloody revolting.
Bone broth/HM carcass stock. Stinks the whole house out and tastes greasy.
Any kind of meat fat. Even bacon rind, crispy or otherwise. Burgers get blotted on kitchen roll and mince gets everything drained off.

100% Agree

boobot1 · 22/01/2024 18:10

I love salad cream sandwiches. Got to be white bread

cristokitty · 22/01/2024 18:15

Dolmades out of a can are food or the gods

The correct implement for conveying super noodles to mouth is not a fork but a folded piece of thickly buttered white bread.

Can you please tell me what dolmades you buy? I absolutely love them but the fresh ones in Sainsburys are terrible.

MarkWithaC · 22/01/2024 18:17

I love pineapple on pizza.
There's nothing wrong with salad cream.
Gravy is shite.
Truffles taste and smell like a public convenience.
I like airline food.

phoenixrosehere · 22/01/2024 18:23

Sweetcorn in foods especially in salads, savoury soups like chicken noodle and on pizza is unnecessary.

By itself not bad but heavily prefer baby corn over it.

Crikeyalmighty · 22/01/2024 18:29

@cristokitty I buy the tinned Greek/turkish (not sure which they are) ones at a big world foods supermarket we have in Bath

Aria999 · 22/01/2024 18:31

Nuts are a savory food that have no place on or in chocolates or ice cream.

SusanSHelit · 22/01/2024 18:34

The dolamdes lidl have in sometimes are divine. Come in a big blue and white tin with a plastic lid and a little fork with most of the writing in greek

QueSyrahSyrah · 21/01/2024 21:05

Cauliflower cheese has absolutely no business on a roast.

Cheese also has no place on or near baked beans.

Outside of these specific scenarios cheese is always welcome.

Apart from fish and seafood dishes.
Seafood pasta with parmesan - seriously, wtf, do these people even have tastebuds.

Crikeyalmighty · 22/01/2024 18:38

@purplecorkheart my H loves coconut water- tastes like milk gone rancid to me!

I also hate those aloe Vera drinks with lots of bits in it- revolting and slimy

IcedPurple · 22/01/2024 19:07

Italian coffee isn't that great.

MalcolmsMiddle · 22/01/2024 19:45

Chips with mayo > chips with ketchup

IcedPurple · 22/01/2024 19:49

Restaurants calling everything tapas is just a way to charge more for small servings, while pretending to be so European and sophisticated.

Happily the trend seems to have peaked.

PartyAnimalTil9 · 22/01/2024 19:49

I’m a chiropodist…. Gruyère fondue smells exactly like athletes foot.

Walking round Paris restaurants of an evening and the whole place smells of fungal feet.

Lemonyfuckit · 22/01/2024 19:53

I like soggy things. I will select the soggiest Yorkshire pudding, never the crispiest. Ideally all chips would be drowned in gravy so they're nice and soggy (ideally most things would be drowned in gravy / some sort of sauce). Puddings should be drowned in custard too which is basically sweet gravy.

Crikeyalmighty · 22/01/2024 19:55

@Lemonyfuckit I like gravy and custard too - partly because I've got shit teeth these days !! They
