Is it me or is Amanda Holden a total narcissist? (I know that word gets thrown around a lot on here but I think she absolutely is one). What kind of mother wants to be centre of attention at her DD’s 18th Birthday bash? Confused
Poor Lexi.

So aibu?

Amanda Holden stuns in sequin co-ord at daughter Lexi's 18th birthday

The radio presenter, 52, pulled out all the stops to celebrate her eldest child's milestone birthday.

Why would Amanda change her personality just cause it’s her daughter’s birthday. She’s a very extroverted woman and is just doing what we all do at parties, ie get drunk, dance and have a good time.

I have noticed however, a lot of middle aged women (probably jealousy) and misogynistic/incel men hate her. Probably because their myopic ideologies, they can’t get their head around a woman they deem “past it” (usually over 50 but let’s face it realistically it starts around 35/9 ish) who is confident and also happy with herself.

I (very briefly) glanced at the DM article (and the pictures therein).
I think its safe to say i'm not quite as invested as you Karen 🤪 😂

Meh. I’ll take ‘invested’. Better than being spiteful and bitter.

Maybe read articles properly before making weird statements like “I bet she leaked those pictures to the press”.

Serpentiner · 21/01/2024 18:22

Nothing wrong with it. I think she’s just one of those mums who is ‘cool’ and maybe kids are happy to have her hang out and party. Wouldn’t be my bag but it was my mothers and no harm really

Winter2020 · 21/01/2024 18:24

That looks like a room of teenagers having a great time. It looks like AH was a great host and I'm sure her daughter had a brilliant party.

If it was a celebrity that was a bit larger/older/less glam hosting and having fun would everyone still be as bitchy?

Americano75 · 21/01/2024 18:25

Good lord, really?

Mesoavocado · 21/01/2024 18:25

I won’t click on the link as Daily Mail is not journalism it’s just lazy shit stirring nonsense much like this entire post

WimbyAce · 21/01/2024 18:27

I'm sure her daughter knew what she would be like and was happy to have her mum at her party, she is hardly going to be a shrinking violet. To be fair she does seem to love the bones of her kids. I can't see anything wrong with having a bit of fun at a party tbh, that's what you are meant to do.

Duh - your comments are easily the most spiteful on the whole thread! You've attacked several PP's with proper venom and snippy/personal accusations! Some of us think Amanda Holden is annoying - so fuck!?

But listen, you're correct, and we're ALL just jealous of her. There you go Karen - hopefully you'll sleep tonight 😂😘

VampireWeekday · 21/01/2024 18:31

The birthday girl could be seen singing along in the crowd in a showstopping beaded minidress.

Amanda then made her way through the crowd to find her lookalike daughter and hand her the microphone.

The Britain's Got Talent star carried on moving through the teenagers and encouraging them to dance along.

That's from the article. But don't let reality interrupt the good old putting random women down for no reason!

tachetastic · 21/01/2024 18:31

KarenNotAKaren · 21/01/2024 18:16

@tachetastic what do you mean she is famous for who she is rather than talent?

You're misquoting me, which is a bugbear of mine on Mumsnet. I said when she first became famous for who she is. Not that she is famous for that now.

What I meant was while she was an actress and singer, she really used her marriage and then very public divorce from Les Dennis to boost her profile, and for a long time she rode that wind.

Now, I suspect even she would accept that she is better known as a "personality" than for her acting or singing credentials, but I think that is fine. She is good at what she does.

I also said I like her.

I don't think that using sexist and ageist terms like Karen really helps make the point.

I can’t read it as I totally boycott the DM as it’s an utter shite-rag. That said, AH is a narcissist and not a nice person. I can’t say how I know but I do.

(Edited for typo)

Is there a free bar in here tonight, and nobody has told me???

@tachetastic
On paper there should be so much that I hate about Amanda Holden

Like what? Why?! You don't even know her, why would you hate her, what would make you hate?

I'm slightly embarrassed to say I like her.

Also.... why?! Be embarrassed that is.
These sleb threads are always so fucking weird 😁

@HollyJollyHolidays

She looks like she is having a great time, anyone who wastes time worrying about who gets the attention and limelight is seriously weird- live and let live!

Well said

Okay, I'll bite.

Yes, "hate" is a very strong word that many of us use too lightly. You're right.

What I should have said is that generally I do not like the type of celebrity that it is easy to pigeonhole Amanda as, with her plastic surgery, her very public divorce, and her very loud personality.

However, I do like her. And you are right, I should not be embarrased by this. I should come out of the closet as an Amanda Holden fan.

Thank you for your intervention.

Woman dares enjoy herself shocker!

I would change that to ‘older woman dares enjoy herself shocker’. Some people think if you’re over 40 you should sit in a corner with a glass of sherry dressed in an old sack…..

JMSA · 21/01/2024 18:48

I think there is a difference between looking amazing (which she undoubtedly does) and having a great time at your daughter's party (good for her and no one would grudge her this), and gyrating sexily in a DJ booth!

Was going to say the same. People who ‘hate’ her though will always quote out of context to get their point across. Maybe she has talent, maybe she doesn’t, but there are a hell of a lot of ‘celebs’ out there who have got big careers on very little talent and a lot of luck.

Fannyannie · 21/01/2024 18:52

I think she was just having a great time with her daughter & young friends. I am sure she is super proud of her girls and loves how they are turning out.

I don’t see competition or envy just love and pride.

SuperFi · 21/01/2024 18:57

If my mum did that at my 18th I would have been mortified.

A couple of years ago I caught Neighbours and AM had a guest role, they were filming a scene outside on a bright day, her face looked very weird, like it was rammed with filler or something. Always taken the online pics of her with a pinch of salt after that.

MILTOBE · 21/01/2024 19:02

What's really nasty is not a mum having a dance at her daughter's birthday party, but that the person taking the photos is doing so surreptitiously in order to cause a problem and sell the photo. They were invited to the party and the person they're taking a photo of is the host's mother. Really nasty piece of work.

Ra5pberryLemonade · 21/01/2024 19:03

Haven't RTFT but watched video, at first I thought she was but then she went into the crowd and was trying to get people involved. The camera person followed her so she played up to it but she didn't do a full performance! If she hadn't been happy and fun, she'd have been reported as miserable and taking herself too seriously.

Apparently they're stills from a video she posted herself, on her insta.

But didn't AH post the clip on her own insta page? Rather rules out the idea of any sneakiness on the part of another reveller...

Teenagehorrorbag · 21/01/2024 19:09

God, I have never been able to stand the woman! My kids like her on Heart in the morning (whereas I find her laugh so fake and annoying) and DD said she was funny on BGT - but I really can't see it!

She is a self centred nobody who married a famous older chap to get in the public eye, and then dumped him in a really shit way once she didn't need him any more. She has no skills and no talent, apart from being slim and pretty (as are many other people). Plus as mentioned - the most annoying laugh in the world.

Those photos don't surprise me - just an extension of the narcissistic attention-seeker we all know she is. Even DD agreed they are cringey.

Her poor daughter.....
