Fitness influencers and little work out bras

How are they working out in these tiny little bras that seem to have become the fashion? I know some are small busted, but surely they still want some support and coverage?

Tuesday I was at the gym in a class and a lady was wearing one and had to skip the active parts of the class cause she was popping out.

It’s none of my business (before users remind me of this fact) but they just seem so impractical. I’m intrigued as to how people actually work out in them. I rolled out of bed and kept a crop top bra on that I’d slept in, under a gym top, thinking that would be ok for a body pump class, lo and behold my boobs were swinging for mountain climbers.

do you have a picture of one that you think is too small?

because not something i’ve ever noticed!

LetMeOut2021 · 20/01/2024 17:01

I think they are gym bras worn as tops. I don’t get how their boobs don’t fall out when they bend to do a deadlift.

My news feed is full of fitness influencers (because I’ve started looking at that content) wearing them.

Those both look pretty secure to me? I wouldn't wear it but that's because I wouldn't want my stomach out that much (I'm not a 20 something fitness influencer!) but my sports bras themselves are no bigger than that.

regenerate · 20/01/2024 17:04

i’m small chested and utterly fine for me

my sister larger and she wears similar and no complaints

Yes but they’re not worn under a top, but as a top. They don’t look all that secure to me.

what do you wear?

Im imagining scaffolding

DancefloorAcrobatics · 20/01/2024 17:05

Pre DC looks like something I'd happily wear...
Post DC it's body armour in the delightful form of shape wear.

LetMeOut2021 · 20/01/2024 17:06

Yes! I have to wear a panache flexi wired bra or similar. That’s why I’m asking really. I tried to buy some nice crop top bras but my boobs flail around and hurt!

I’m reluctant to share the two influencers I have in mind - mainly because I don’t want to bring negative attention.

But my tops are doing nothing to contain my boobs, that's all the sports bra. I just don't understand your point. Obviously you're more exposed if you only wear a sports bra (which is very much not a new thing to do) but there's no practical difference in terms of support or the ability of the bra to keep you within it whether or not you have a top over it.

No, but if your boobs fall forward and expose you in a top you’re not actually on display. That was my point.

Jeez I was picturing something skimpy. Those look absolutely standard for a sports-bra. They could be 'light support' but coverage-wise they look fine.

Malarandras · 20/01/2024 17:09

One of the trainers at my gym wears tops like that all the time. I’ve seen her workout and she really, really works out hard. No popping out that I have seen.

5128gap · 20/01/2024 17:09

Well I wouldn't fall out of that. So perhaps some of the women wouldn't either. And maybe others choose not to put practicality over aesthetics.

BassoContinuo · 20/01/2024 17:09

They don’t look much different from my sports bras, which keep everything contained.

I do wear a top over but that’s because I don’t like my stomach uncovered - it doesn’t add any support.

BobbyBiscuits · 20/01/2024 17:10

It feels like a lot of women now wear quite 'sexy' gymwear, I'm guessing as they like taking photos of themselves etc. They have every reason to as they are tracking progress etc I suppose. I always wore a baggy T and joggers when I first started, then graduated to joggers and a sturdy nike sports bra (the old style ones were more like crop top in coverage). I am also blessed/cursed with tiny boobs, lol. I'm way too intimidated to go to the gym now sadly. I also find it really claustrophobic. Exercising outdoors is better and then I can wear a hoody instead of a skimpy trendy bra!
Each to their own, but it would put me off seeing too much flesh, male or female.

Hardbackwriter · 20/01/2024 17:10

I wear this kind of sports bra, which would be a very skimpy top but I find fine as a sports bra, even for high impact: https://www.johnlewis.com/adidas-training-sports-bra-arctic-night-white/p111164661. I'm medium rather than large busted but as you note so are most fitness influencers.

What size are you?

im 32c
my sister 34c

and both have these tops and absolutely fine!!

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 20/01/2024 17:11

I’ve never had an issue and not sure what your point is?

If it’s a good fit, supportive of the bust size and made from sports fabric no one should be spilling out of their bra top in the gym.

Roserunner · 20/01/2024 17:11

I'm a 34a/b and wear those sort of sports bras and they are plenty supportive enough for me. I do gym classes and run in them. I do wear a t-shirt or vest over the top as I'd feel too exposed but would be fine without.

I’m a 32F.

I think @BobbyBiscuits is right.

im getting old - it’s the gym equivalent of seeing girls on a night out and feeling cold for them.

I work out in these. I'm not particularly booby and they support me fine. Lifts, running, HIIT, all good.

But as I say that never, ever happens - I can't even imagine how it could happen. My boobs are quite dense (not as much as they once were, I'm 37 and breastfed two babies!) and they don't really go falling about the place? Obviously you may need to wear different clothes if you have a different body type but you seem to think that this means other people are somehow doing it wrong if they wear clothes you wouldn't.

Thats my point. They look like they’re about to spill, as I’ve said I’ve seen one person who couldn’t do any high impact stuff.
