Fitness influencers and little work out bras

How are they working out in these tiny little bras that seem to have become the fashion? I know some are small busted, but surely they still want some support and coverage?

Tuesday I was at the gym in a class and a lady was wearing one and had to skip the active parts of the class cause she was popping out.

It’s none of my business (before users remind me of this fact) but they just seem so impractical. I’m intrigued as to how people actually work out in them. I rolled out of bed and kept a crop top bra on that I’d slept in, under a gym top, thinking that would be ok for a body pump class, lo and behold my boobs were swinging for mountain climbers.

I am 32f, (fake) and wear similar but thicker straps and they are really secure
I lift and do a lot of conditioning

I fight in just the bra under my gi (Brazilian juijitsu) and they are also really secure

I think it's the strap and the actual boob which make the difference.

As long as ppl are comfortable I don't see a problem

Pickingmyselfup · 20/01/2024 20:57

I wear all kinds of bras and don't have any issues. I have a few different gymshark ones, a few cotton ones which are racer back and if I'm covering my top half up I just wear a standard cropped bralette like today. I ran in it and then lifted various weights in it, nothing fell out. I had a loose t shirt on in the gym so that wasn't providing any support.

I find being fairly small in the boob that I don't actually need support especially if the bras are tight.

YesItsMe44 · 21/01/2024 02:32

I'd never attempt to try one of the sports bras on. I wear a 40F, my daughter is a 34F. We're all big busted in my family. We've found one company that makes decent bras in larger cup sizes, and is comfortable for larger busted women. I too look at these tops and wonder how they keep one contained, only because I'm envious I don't have many options for bras in my size. I've also had breast reduction surgery, and it's been suggested for my daughter due to back/neck pain. Even on my weight loss journey I doubt I'll ever fit into one of the sports tops/bras shown when I get to my goal.

Jumpingthruhoops · 21/01/2024 02:48

I started working out last year and invested in some of these. They're great. Fit snug, so nothing really wobbles about and, more importantly, they're more forgiving when you sweat. I couldn't wear anything else.

Codlingmoths · 21/01/2024 03:05

They are standard sports bras. Literally bras designed to play sport in. I couldn’t fall out of one of those you posted in a million years, and they hold your breasts MORE securely than my standard bras. I cannot understand where you are coming from here that you think these fitness influencers might fall out.

Anahenzaris · 21/01/2024 03:30

I think it is definitely a thing where people purchase/wear poorly fitted bras, and yes sometimes they have to modify their activity when they realise it’s not working. With or without a top, at my size if my boobs are falling out of my bra I need to hold off as the tshirt isn’t enough to hide that.

I also wonder, somewhat enviously, how people can manage with those fashionable sports bras. But then, clothing is often designed for certain sizes. If you match their model, the support is likely ideal. If you don’t - you end up with poorly fitting clothes that look bad and don’t funding properly.

I had to shop around to stumble on a crop top I can work out in. I use cheap crop tops for sleeping. I used to double-bra a lot because I struggled to get bras that fit properly for me. Either the range available has improved, or my body has changed enough that I’ve found bras that work.

If there’sa good bra store near you, go get fitted. Or buy lots of different brands over time until something works. And then cry when it is discontinued and you have to start over.

Please help me, my child isn’t safe in school.
I was called into school due to my child being assaulted by 2 other students, one who purposefully used an object to increase the pain, in the school which led to my child having to be admitted in the ER. My issue is that even though these 2 students have been so called “excluded” from the school, they may be re admitted and these students come from a community that is sort of tribal - in a way they have the thinking that if one has a problem, then all of them have a problem. This was seen when the entire “ clan” decided to attack a student leaving them with broken bones and the student hasn’t come back to school yet ( this has occurred in this school year and as this had happened behind the school, it was brushed off as it wasn’t on the “school premise”) and I worry that now my child is there new target. I have tried to explain my worries to the head of year yet they seem adamant that nothing will happen and yet if the students do come back , there will be a so called “ re integration “ session which involves my child being present with the two aggressors. I have no idea what to do- I’ve thought of going through the formal complaint route, letting the head teacher and governor of the school know, but I worry with how the school behavioural standard is deteriorating significantly ( they keep the aggressors in school to maintain a high student retention rate) and them giving leeway for students from a specific community so that they can have an easier time “integrating” into the community leading to the students to be more shameless in their actions that my complaint may be brushed off and my child may face prejudice. What am I supposed to do?

@Meha, you need to start your own thread. If you report this comment to Mumsnet they will delete it for you.

I’ve just seen one in a bandeau, not even a bra. I think if I had posted the influencers I was referring to people might have understood my point. I was reluctant to do that as other than their fashion choices, I like their content.

Gymshark do a minimal range. This is the sort of stuff. I struggled to find it - but had searched “bras” and don’t think these fall under that category.

There’s reviews on Reddit along similar lines to my post. I think people didn’t really understand the sort of attire I was referring to and my first photos weren’t quite as accurate.

No, but if your boobs fall forward and expose you in a top you’re not actually on display. That was my point.

Not in a properly supportive sports bra.
If they are falling out its nothing to do with the size of the top, but the support.
The bigger your bust and more active the class obviously the more support you need.

Alwaysalwayscold · 21/01/2024 08:17

They look fine to me. You sound bitter a jealous.

I am! 🤣 I’ve actually said in the post I like the vests with pretty straps but my boulder holders prevent me from wearing them.

Yes - I was avoiding naming someone in particular but yes.

This sports top is sold specifically as light support. The person is very muscular. Most of her "bust" is actually pectoral muscle so she will need very little support as her muscle supports her relatively small amount of breast tissue.

Yes, if someone else tried to wear that for an active class they may struggle. But it's more support and coverage than many bikinis I have seen even in water parks.

Ponoka7 · 21/01/2024 08:23

My DD works out in that style. I know you mean it light-hearted but there's one gym that my DD goes to which has 65+ people in (after cardiac rehab) and they make quite nasty comments. Unless you are actually coming out of them then you should wear what suits.

It is meant light hearted and thank you for recognising that was the tone of the thread. I wouldn’t dream of saying anything.

As I’ve said above most of these women I admire for their physique, bra aside!

Inappropriate advert in the middle of a thread, I literally thought a poster had posted that this was their workout outfit.

I suppose you wouldn't fall out of it.

Same!

Meh. Plenty of people run around in skimpier bikini tops. Not my personal style, but it's perfectly adequate support if you have plenty of muscle and not much body fat. If you have developed your pectorals well and have low body fat, they hold up your breasts pretty well on their own. Plus you don't actually need high support for weights or many gym activities.

Do fitness 'influencers' wear the same clothes to influence and to actually work out in?

bessytedsy · 21/01/2024 08:42

Big boobs run in my family & Im a 32E, I need them strapped in tight!

bessytedsy · 21/01/2024 08:45

I can wear a less structured bra depending upon the class; eg pump vs attack. The only people i see in skimpy bras have very small chests so i assumed they don’t need as much support

Well they demo, in a gym, in the videos. So they clearly want to you to perceive that that’s how they look.

Op I get why you think these tops wouldn’t offer any support to anyone at the gym. I’d love to be able to wear those tops but at 36E they’d offer me no support whatsoever and I’d be bouncing around all over the place in a very undignified manner if I even attempted to wear one to the gym.

I use these https://www.sportsdirect.com/usa-pro-high-support-sports-bra-342326?cq_src=google_ads&cq_cmp=17597583573&cq_term=&cq_plac=&cq_net=g&cq_plt=gp&cq_con=139404206618&cq_med=pla&cq_pos=&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMInpX5-o7ugwMV0pJQBh04XgeXEAQYEyABEgLqjPD_BwE#colcode=34232602. They are great if you want to wear racer back tops and they give such comfortable amazing support. I couldn’t be without mine.

I don’t think your op is judgemental at all by the way so I don’t get why people are sniping at you.

If I see women at the gym in those gym bra tops with fab bodies I think ‘good on them’ and it inspires me to work a little bit harder at toning up myself.

Yes but a small demo and an actual full workout are not the same.
They're selling brands (themselve, their clothes, their cosmetics), not actually giving proper fitness advice, a lot of the time at least.
