Fitness influencers and little work out bras

LetMeOut2021 · 20/01/2024 16:54

How are they working out in these tiny little bras that seem to have become the fashion? I know some are small busted, but surely they still want some support and coverage?

Tuesday I was at the gym in a class and a lady was wearing one and had to skip the active parts of the class cause she was popping out.

It’s none of my business (before users remind me of this fact) but they just seem so impractical. I’m intrigued as to how people actually work out in them. I rolled out of bed and kept a crop top bra on that I’d slept in, under a gym top, thinking that would be ok for a body pump class, lo and behold my boobs were swinging for mountain climbers.

That looks like a leotard bra! Not a high impact sports bra.

I think it depends on shape too. My boobs are quite separate, so I don't like crop tops because unless they really strap me down, if I lean to the side my 'top' boob will migrate to the middle!

Not really, no. I hadn’t expected the spectrum to be quite so broad.

the fact you are surprised that different breast sizes impact the type of bra you wear is a thread in itself OP

I'm tiny of boob and those little crop-top type bras work just fine for me. No issues with pop-out.
In fact, I don't need a bra at all in order to keep my breasts in an acceptable position. The only reason I wear a bra is to stop my naked breasts being visible when my t-shirt hangs open or rides up in various positions (down dog, arms overhead etc etc.

That’s the sort of thing I meant. There’s several influencers who wear the same kind of style.

For an over the head style sports bra, I choose one with lots of fabric to the front and more of an open back and cram my boobs in there, they tend to hold me in securely. It sounds like you try to match the size to give you the best coverage so it doesn't offer any band support and you think that's what everyone else does?

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 20/01/2024 17:55

Someone referred to emmadfitness wearing these tops.

Yet on her page she posts lots of videos of her doing cross fit. It’s quite easy to see with your own 2 eyes that she’s not spilling out as you can see the tops in action. So no point in using her as an example. She looks great.

my boobs sit apart too, I know what you mean.

Surely you can see by looking at the person you posted that she has plenty of muscle and not much fatty tissue and won't need much support from a bra. And that her boobs don't particularly look like yours (presumably) do.

I was using the bra type as an example as much as anything…

No, but if your boobs fall forward and expose you in a top you’re not actually on display. That was my point.

But they don’t if you are flat chested and it’s really tight.

GreyBlackLove · 20/01/2024 18:09

I'm a little bigger than you and can't get away with the compression tops. Less about falling out and more related to support.
There's an influencer I follow who wears the teeny ones, but she's smaller chested. She does seem to adjust it more often for certain exercises but never looks uncomfortable.

Alohapotato · 20/01/2024 18:09

Pre children I had some like that I used under my t shirt and they were very comfortable, now I'm using something similar but with wider straps

londonmummy1966 · 20/01/2024 18:16

I'm the same size as you and also do a lot of running. My I wear 2 underwired bras one under the other in order to keep everything in place when I run. I do a gym work out in a single underwired bra as it is less bouncy so I can see how someone who was less well endowed wouldn't need much support in the gym. DD is much smaller (30 C) and can get away with a crop top style sports bra for everything.

ActDottie · 20/01/2024 18:28

I’m a DD and wear bras like that for the gym. They provide enough support for me.

you jest but I am 32k, none of these bras would even cover one side! I wear a normal full support underwired bra and then a sports bra that is so well supported that it might as well be scaffolding

i have been jealous of small busted women all my life.

LlynTegid · 20/01/2024 18:32

Sadly some people, women and men too, are so beholden to what is or is seen as the latest fashion, that they wear things which don't suit them. Or are practical.

Shayisgreat · 20/01/2024 18:33

WhatsInStoreFor2024 · 20/01/2024 17:37

Don't worry....I'm sure if they were not secure or comfortable y they would wear something that was..... just like you or I would

Well exactly

I'm a d and those contortionist style bras are really supportive. they sit really tight.

this for example.
it says 'moderate' support but I run and do a bouncy combat sport in these.

I’m with you - I have seen larger busted ladies in these bras too and have been surprised. But apparently we’re a minority.

I’m a 32F.

I think @BobbyBiscuits is right.

im getting old - it’s the gym equivalent of seeing girls on a night out and feeling cold for them.

As a fellow scaffolder, I hear you! I buy those kinds of sports bras to sleep in. One of the amazing trainers at my gym does kickboxing in a bra like that. She's obviously comfortable but it makes me wince.

That’s it isn’t it - it would actually be painful for me to have any movement!

I wear a crop top from John Lewis that look like the ones you posted, ribbed with thin straps. Absolutely not designed for running, but I run in it. I find it supportive and comfortable. I’m only a 30D though.

Yes! I’m 32H and wear 2 sports bras for high impact work, and a softer but still full coverage (with huge thick straps) sports bra for yoga.

whys everyone up in arms about OP. i see the same as you OP in my hot yoga class. Tiny little bras and hot pants. The girls look fit and fab but in hot yoga when you are DRIPPING wet with sweat I find it better to be completely covered up to wick away the wetness? I also wish I looked as good as the girls in the skimpier looks!
