Fitness influencers and little work out bras

How are they working out in these tiny little bras that seem to have become the fashion? I know some are small busted, but surely they still want some support and coverage?

Tuesday I was at the gym in a class and a lady was wearing one and had to skip the active parts of the class cause she was popping out.

It’s none of my business (before users remind me of this fact) but they just seem so impractical. I’m intrigued as to how people actually work out in them. I rolled out of bed and kept a crop top bra on that I’d slept in, under a gym top, thinking that would be ok for a body pump class, lo and behold my boobs were swinging for mountain climbers.

@Hardbackwriter I’m not saying they’re wrong? Just wondering how practical it is? If you’ve taken offence I apologise. When I was younger I’d run in a crop top but need a decent bra underneath.

If it’s a good fit, supportive of the bust size and made from sports fabric no one should be spilling out of their bra top in the gym.

Thats my point. They look like they’re about to spill, as I’ve said I’ve seen one person who couldn’t do any high impact stuff.

Well, that person is clearly inadequately bra-ed then. Others wouldn't be.

I’m a 32F.

I think @BobbyBiscuits is right.

im getting old - it’s the gym equivalent of seeing girls on a night out and feeling cold for them.

the fact you’re 32f should probs ly have been ib your Op. because it is a tad relevant to your… confusion? intrigue? concern?

RM2013 · 20/01/2024 17:16

I wear similar sports bras but never felt brave enough to just wear these and always wear a t shirt over the top. I’m fairly small chested though so I guess they’re not a good fit for everyone.

regenerate · 20/01/2024 17:16

* as I’ve said I’ve seen one person who couldn’t do any high impact stuff.*

you saw her leave one class.

how on earth can you be so sure?

ShowOfHands · 20/01/2024 17:17

I'm a 30E which I think is similar to you size wise op? My boobs are pretty small tbh and I could wear what you've pictured above with zero issue. I'd wear a t-shirt over the top for modesty reasons but the bras themselves are fine. I do hiit, run, lift free weights and so on.

Why are you so worked up about it 🤣 I’m just chatting on a chat board. I don’t mean any offence.

Inappropriate advert in the middle of a thread, I literally thought a poster had posted that this was their workout outfit.

I suppose you wouldn't fall out of it.

Maybe I have sensitive boobs. I just feel they need to be strapped down! Especially since having kids.

Actually those one's don't look too bad - but it might be a size/shape/density/age issue.

I'd be looking for max support but more not wanting bounce than fear of falling out - but that's due to size and age.

Well there’s more women on here who don’t have an issue than the one you saw at your gym. Perhaps it wasn’t a sports top?

But you seem to be conflating “coverage” with practicality. If you don’t like seeing flesh in the gym then don’t look.

Maybe just stick to a baggy tshirt and you do you and everyone else do what suits them. Judgey much?

You weren’t compelled to engage in the thread.

I don't think age has anything to do with it tbh
I'm 57 and see them as completely standard gym wear.
I'm not that bothered about my midriff showing or not but I don't like having my shoulders covered and I like a scoop neckline so that I can see my muscles for some exercises. It makes focusing on them easier for me.

CrabbiesGingerBeer · 20/01/2024 17:20

I wear similar at home without a top over the bra for HIIT and they’ve always held me in place without a problem. The same for yoga and Pilates with leaning over etc. Maybe the lady you saw was wearing a cheap, thin version rather than a proper sports bra?

greenacrylicpaint · 20/01/2024 17:20

I'm a d and those contortionist style bras are really supportive. they sit really tight.

More just surprised that people don’t fall out of them and also, I suppose a little envious they don’t when i end up uncomfortable.

I like the gym vests with a racer back but can’t make them work with my massive straps either.

Well mine are different post childbirth/bf - and I suppose that hard to separate from age's impact - plus I am starting to think is possibly Ehlers-Danlos syndrome in the family.

This. They basically hold the breast tissue to the rib cage - they are far more secure than a normal bra. They are designed to stay in place no matter the body contortion.

If someone is falling out of one, they are either wearing far too large a size or it’s not a sports bra and is too flimsy for any sort of exercise.

I'm not offended, but I also don't believe that you started this thread because you genuinely hadn't ever noticed that not every woman in the world has your exact boobs rather than because you wanted people to join you in sniping about how impractically these people are dressing and how it must be sheer vanity. Obviously a fitness influencer isn't going to wear a baggy t-shirt and joggers, they need people to see what they're doing - and yes, they need people to see their bodies.

LetMeOut2021 · 20/01/2024 17:25

@Hardbackwriter I’m sorry for the anger caused by your genuinely held belief.
