to eat the same breakfast and lunch every single day?

I didn't realise it was weird until a colleague pointed it out. Disclaimer - the colleague is a friend, we were just chatting - she wasn't criticising!

Every week I pot up 5 lots of overnight oats (literally just oats and a spoon of trail mix) and have 1 a day for breakfast

I cook a chicken on a Sunday and have a chicken, pease pudding and stuffing sandwich every day for lunch.

I use the rest of the chicken in a family meal, sometimes dh will make himself a sandwich with it.

I've been doing this for about 2 years straight. Every single work day - never given it a thought!

How weird am I?

I put milk in with the oats too - I'm not that weird!

Oh, if you enjoy it then eat it!
I can’t eat the same thing twice in a week

Quietplaces · 20/01/2024 14:41

It's weird in the sense that not everyone does it and it's unusual but yanbu at all, if you enjoy it then you're not hurting anyone and you must save so much time and brain power twice a day, as well as time saved working out shopping, am thinking of copying tbh!

Strugglingtodomybest · 20/01/2024 14:41

I don't think that's weird at all.

Unless... am I weird?!

catelynjane · 20/01/2024 14:42

I wouldn't say it was weird at all - I'd find it bloody boring though.

TheGirlWhoLived · 20/01/2024 14:43

My husband does this, it only irritates me as in it’s something I would find dull as ditchwater! I couldn’t even eat my favourite foods twice in a row without being a bit meh.

Babyroobs · 20/01/2024 14:43

It's fine and sounds pretty healthy too. I would get bored but my dh has pretty much the same sandwich every day.

BobbyBiscuits · 20/01/2024 14:43

I go through phases of having the same thing every day, but then I get sick of it and never want to see it again. My thing at the moment is skate wing fried in butter with capers. Totally obsessed and would every day if I could afford it.
I never ever eat breakfast, so I guess that's the same every day too.
There's something comforting about having something you like that's familiar, and if you are work you don't want the stress of trying something new and realising you hate it. Wasted lunch break, wasted money and still hangry!
So no, I don't think you are weird. I've not tried pease pudding, is it like mushy peas? I love those : )

RockStarship · 20/01/2024 14:44

My mum used to do the same everyday for years and years and years. I'm not sure what she had for breakfast but for lunch it was always two slices of granary bread, one slice of plastic cheese and 4 slices of cucumber. She made it for me once and it was horrible. But she liked it so she stick with it for at least a decade.

So yes, I suppose it might be a bit odd but if you like it then that's all that matters.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 20/01/2024 14:44

I find it pretty weird tbh. Firstly I'd be very bored. Secondly it's good for you to eat a wide variety of foods, especially veg, fruit, nuts, seeds etc.

Mountainclimber2024 · 20/01/2024 14:44

Not weird just not for everyone. If it works for you why change it?

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 20/01/2024 14:45

If it works for you - fine.

I suffer terribly from food boredom and would be pushed to eat the same thing more than twice in a row, but I know that's a 'me' thing.

PPTorPDF · 20/01/2024 14:45

I think it's unusual. It's not harming anyone though so as long as you're happy there's no need to stop.

noblegiraffe · 20/01/2024 14:46

Some people like making a massive effort with their clothes every day too, different outfits and accessories.

I'd rather wear a variation on the same workclothes every day and not have to think about it.

NorthernGirlie · 20/01/2024 14:46

I think I do it purely as a functional thing. I make so many decisions on a daily basis this means 2 less!

I pot up the oats, make the stuffing and strip the chicken on a Sunday so barely anything to do after that. Saves me a bomb too.

Never even thought if being bored by it. I shove the oats down "habit style" while checking emails and lunch is usually a 10 minute rush too!

Sounds awful to me but you're an adult...eat what you want!

Grilledsquid · 20/01/2024 14:47

If you are hapoy with it why not.
I change a lot, max is the same thing 2x (fresh, then leftovers).

haveyougotamin · 20/01/2024 14:47

Only issue is you're not eating a wide enough range of foods in terms of optimum nutrition.

NorthernGirlie · 20/01/2024 14:48

@noblegiraffe I also have about 6 versions of the same dress 🙈

It has pockets - major bonus as otherwise I'd never find a pen!

It is a little unusual but not unheard of. My concern would be a lack of variety in your diet. Maybe you could introduce some small tweaks, like putting some cashews or flax seed in your oats, or putting some pickled beetroot or rocket or hummus in your usual sandwiches - different things for different days

Thehamsterthatcametotea · 20/01/2024 14:49

It’s not weird and makes sense due to food waste and not having to really think.
I tend to the same breakfast daily and lunch is usually some sort of salad with protein.

(Add some fruit to your oats though!)

Ofmince · 20/01/2024 14:49

I've eaten the same breakfast on a work day for about 5 years (porridge with berries).

If I cook a big batch of something vegetarian then I will happily eat it all week for lunch. I'm not much of a foodie and choosing what to eat is a faff.

The only thing I find a bit odd is eating cooked chicken after 5 days, but if you've done it this long with no problems then fair enough. Personally I keep cooked meat in the fridge for 3 days max.

MagpiePi · 20/01/2024 14:49

I have the same breakfast and lunch most days, and am fine eating the same evening meal twice or even three days in a row if it is to finish up leftovers. It saves having to think of what to eat and then have to go and buy the ingredients and then cook it. It is a healthy, well balanced diet, I like the things I make, and I live alone and it doesn't affect anyone else.

Forestcantrun · 20/01/2024 14:50

I’m partial to having the same work lunch and breakfast with me on a regular basis. I nearly think of it like a uniform. I don’t have to think, I can bulk prepare/buy at the start of the week and just get on with it.

Onelifeonly · 20/01/2024 14:50

If it suits you, fine. I often take leftovers for lunch but would get bored having the same thing more than 3 days running. I vary my breakfasts too - between toast or cereal and after eating a whole packet of cereal up, I often don’t buy it again for few weeks as I go off it temporarily. But that’s just me.
