to eat the same breakfast and lunch every single day?

I didn't realise it was weird until a colleague pointed it out. Disclaimer - the colleague is a friend, we were just chatting - she wasn't criticising!

Every week I pot up 5 lots of overnight oats (literally just oats and a spoon of trail mix) and have 1 a day for breakfast

I cook a chicken on a Sunday and have a chicken, pease pudding and stuffing sandwich every day for lunch.

I use the rest of the chicken in a family meal, sometimes dh will make himself a sandwich with it.

I've been doing this for about 2 years straight. Every single work day - never given it a thought!

How weird am I?

@Ofmince true - I used to only use it for 3 days (and buy cooked chicken slices for the other 2) but I've used the Sunday stuff for over a year and not died yet!

The famous MN chicken.

NorthernGirlie · 20/01/2024 14:53

We do have a different evening meal every night - rarely have the same thing twice in a fortnight so I do get variation!

I'd probably buy chips and gravy from the canteen every day if I didn't take my lunch!

I find it pretty weird tbh. Firstly I'd be very bored. Secondly it's good for you to eat a wide variety of foods, especially veg, fruit, nuts, seeds etc.

In what way is it "good for you" ? Just wondering.

Changingplace · 20/01/2024 14:54

Not weird if it works for you but I think it’s lacking in fruit & veg, I’d add some fruit to the porridge or salad/carrot sticks with the sandwich.

NorthernGirlie · 20/01/2024 14:54

Actually I'm lying - sometimes we have a group canteen lunch on Fridays! So not every single day 🙈 I forgot about those!

NorthernGirlie · 20/01/2024 14:48

@noblegiraffe I also have about 6 versions of the same dress 🙈

It has pockets - major bonus as otherwise I'd never find a pen!

Edited

I once bought the same top in 5 different colours!

I don't know how people have the brain space to make these sorts of daily choices more difficult for themselves!

BarelyLiterate · 20/01/2024 14:54

When I worked in an offIce I had the same breakfast almost every working day for 20 years : 2 Weetabix with milk, a spoonful of raisins & brown sugar. Quick, easy & filling.

Well the OPs breakfast & lunch has no fruit or veg in it at all so doesn’t cover a mixture of vitamins etc that you need to have a healthy varied diet.

LightSwerve · 20/01/2024 14:55

It is not terrible but not very healthy to eat a limited diet.

I understand decision fatigue, but you could have a more varied diet without having to make more decisions because you could just have a slightly wider range on you fixed list.

I wonder what you would feel like if you ate something else one day!

lionseggs · 20/01/2024 14:56

I worked in a place for 3 years and every single day this man would have a huge Tupperware full of lettuce for lunch. Every single day. That was weird at least this food is nice 😂

@ShippingNews seems to be well established data on this https://zoe.com/learn/30-plants-per-week?utmsource=googleepmax&utmmedium=&utmmcampaign=20382344316&utmadgroup=&utmmterm=&utmcontent=

Paw2024 · 20/01/2024 14:57

I do this but only for weeks/months rather than forever

Currently on a lasagne with salad fixation
Summer was feta and watermelon salad and I had that for months Grin
Egg fried rice with loads of veg and chicken was another one

NorthernGirlie · 20/01/2024 14:57

Totally get it about the fruit and veg - I do need to up that!

Glitterybee · 20/01/2024 14:57

This post is a coincidence for me as I’ve literally just this hour decided that I’ve had enough of thinking what to eat each day, shopping, cooking, etc.

I am a single parent and have an extremely demanding job. I need to make my life easier.

Im thinking of prepping/having the same breakfast and lunch Mon to Fri and having a ready meal from a meal prep company for my dinner.

One question though - does the chicken and bread last 5/6 days really? I’d be nervous beyond the 3rd day I think…

DancingOnMoonbeams · 20/01/2024 14:58

I always have the same brunch every day.

Tea, cheese omelette on toast, peach yoghurt, one or two pieces of fruit and a glass of apple juice.

I enjoy it and won't be changing anytime soon!

NewKingontheBlock · 20/01/2024 14:58

I’m the same I have the same breakfast and lunch every day and the same 7 dinners (different meal each of the 7 days then start again) I change my dinner menus a bit when the seasons change so change it up every 6 months or so. It makes shopping easy for both time and budget and keeps my weight maintained without really thinking about it.

audihere · 20/01/2024 15:01

I have the same breakfast every day and my lunches are pretty consistent too. It's one less thing to think about.

FrostyFogg · 20/01/2024 15:02

We have porridge every morning and DH always has soup for lunch. I don't think it's that unusual. Our dinners are varied and we eat plenty of fruit and veg.

Octomingo · 20/01/2024 15:02

I do this. Mainly for convenience.
Breakfast is greek yoghurt and granola and coffee. Takes minutes, then I'm out the door.

Only get 25 minutes for lunch, and I'm fucked if I leave it at home, so I keep stuff in work that i can put together and eat quickly. It's boring, but it's fuel. It also means taking something different in occasionally makes the day more exciting.

Tea time is different, mainly cos I don't have to make it!

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 20/01/2024 15:02

I have the same breakfast every work day and for lunch I usually have the same thing 2 or 3 days running. I always have a hot meal at lunchtime.

It works for me as it reduces decision fatigue and I have to take food with me every day.

People at my work think I’m a bit weird but idc. Someone’s always commenting on my food choices whilst they’re eating a pot noodle + crisps + Twix.

Floralnomad · 20/01/2024 15:03

I’m similar in that I have a yoghurt for breakfast everyday - different types and flavours though and have an apple and a satsuma / clem / mandarin for lunch . We do have lunch out once a week usually so that changes things up .

blackpanth · 20/01/2024 15:04

That's not weird

slaybell · 20/01/2024 15:04

I do the same OP. It saves yet another thing I have to think about and plan.

We have varied and healthy evening meals cooked fresh most nights which keeps things interesting but lunch is always the same thing for me (I don't eat breakfast - unless black coffee counts!)
